Basically reiterates non-Catholics not eligible for salvation. Well you can give this Pope one thing, he doesn't dither.

they were not true churches but merely ecclesial communities and therefore did not have the "means of salvation." "Christ 'established here on earth' only one church," The church is the body of Christ. It is not a building, it is not a sect, it is not any particular RELIGION. The Church of Christ are the BELIEVERS who, regardless of which BUILDING, or NOT BUILDING, in which they worship Him. The Pope is WRONG.

“Pope: Other Christians not true churches”
That’s ok, since you are not infallable we can chalk that up to you just being wrong. Probably not for the first or last time.

please, please don’t take this the wrong way! and besides, any Freeper should not trust an AP article to be honest.
It is something totally reasonable for any christian church, or any religion for that matter to proclaim their superiority. If you had any doubts, well then why bother following your church? Also, the catholic church does not say non-catholics are excluded from salvation! Read what St Paul has to say about those who do not know the law and those who build altars to the unknown God - these are good examples of what our doctrine is; We believe for those who do not know the full truth (or law), they are judged on their conscience. This statement in no way theologically excludes non-catholics from heaven.

There you go brothers. What HAVE I been saying all this time?
It is obvious the Latins are NOT going to give up their “Primacy” doctrine.
So much for reunion.

So all I have to do to be a “Christian” is join the RCC? And by doing that I will have earned my salvation?

Isn’t this the same thing that JPII stated a few years ago?
The RCC has a very specific definition of “Church”, and basically if you aren’t in communion with the Pope, you are not in one. Now, there are some rather nuanced statements about the Eastern Orthodox, but they are not quite internally consistent.
The interesting thing is that, also according to Catholic doctrine, if you are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, you are already in the Catholic church in an “impaired” way or form.
Nothing new here.

A Christian is a person who has accepted Christ's death on the Cross as payment for his sins and who has confessed his sins to the
Heavenly Father, asked for forgiveness, trusted Christ as his savior and lord and who, in the eyes of God, is no longer under the judgement and wrath of God but has been adopted into God's family and has eternal life.
Denominations are man-made.

Coming from a human that insists on the worship of other humans, this is laughable.
They hang pagan titles like ‘queen of heaven (hell is the abode of the queen of heaven), and mother of god (Tammuz is the god) on the Lord’s earthly mother, and then they want to be taken seriously.
Strange Fire!
