Our Mormon Brothers?

Mormon Evangelists

The following draws from the book Is the Mormon My Brother by apologist James White. Earlier this year, Paul Kaiser reprinted a Worldview article titled 10 Mormonism Facts which generated a myriad of responses from visitors who stated that Mormons were being misrepresented and are simply our brothers & sisters in the Body of Christ. Let’s look at what Dr. White presents using LDS resources:

The First Vision

Without question the key revelation in Mormon Scripture regarding the nature of God is to be found in what is known as the First Vision of Joseph Smith. The vision itself is fundamental to all of LDS theology. Mormon Apostle Bruce R. McConkie described the vision:

That glorious theophany which took place in the spring of 1820 and which marked the opening of the dispensation of the fullness of times is called the First Vision. It is rated as first both from the standpoint of time and of pre-eminent importance. In it Joseph Smith saw and conversed with the Father and the Son, both of which exalted personages were personally present before him as he lay enwrapped in the Spirit and overshadowed by the Holy Ghost.

This transcendent vision was the beginning of latter day revelation; it marked the opening of the heavens after the long night of apostate darkness; with it was ushered in the great era of restoration, the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. (Acts 3:21.) Through it the creeds of Christendom were shattered to smithereens, and because of it the truth about those Beings whom it is life eternal to know began again to be taught among men. (John 17:3.) With this vision came the call of that Prophet who, save Jesus only, was destined to do more for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it. (D. & C. 135:3.) This vision was the most important event that had taken place in all world history from the day of Christ’s ministry to the glorious hour when it occurred.(1)

And Mormon Prophet Ezra Taft Benson said,

Joseph Smith, a prophet of God, restored the knowledge of God. Joseph’s first vision clearly revealed that the Father and Son are separate personages, having bodies as tangible as mans. Later it was also revealed that the Holy Ghost is a personage of Spirit, separate and distinct from the personalities of the Father and the Son. (See D&C 130:22.) This all-important truth shocked the world even though sustained by the Bible. (2)

How is it that the creeds of Christendom were shattered to smithereens and the knowledge of God was restored by this one vision? While the story is as familiar to Mormons as John 3:16 is to Christians, we present Joseph Smith’s own recounting of the story in full, taken from the LDS Scriptures (and hence carrying canonical authority). However, we note that the account that appears in the LDS Scriptures was written in 1838, eighteen years after the events described:

14 So, in accordance with this, my determination to ask of God, I retired to the woods to make the attempt. It was on the morning of a beautiful, clear day, early in the spring of eighteen hundred and twenty. It was the first time in my life that I had made such an attempt, for amidst all my anxieties I had never as yet made the attempt to pray vocally.

15 After I had retired to the place where I had previously designed to go, having looked around me, and finding myself alone, I kneeled down and began to offer up the desires of my heart to God. I had scarcely done so, when immediately I was seized upon bysome power which entirely overcame me, and had such an astonishing influence over me as to bind my tongue so that I could not speak. Thick darkness gathered around me, and it seemed to me for a time as if I were doomed to sudden destruction.

16 But, exerting all my powers to call upon God to deliver me out of the power of this enemy which had seized upon me, and at the very moment when I was ready to sink into despair and abandon myself to destruction—not to an imaginary ruin, but to the power of some actual being from the unseen world, who had such marvelous power as I had never before felt in any being just at this moment of great alarm, I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!

18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)–and which I should join.

19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong;(3) and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.

20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, Never mind, all is well I am well enough off. I then said to my mother, I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true. It seems as though the adversary was aware, at a very early period of my life, that I was destined to prove a disturber and an annoyer of his kingdom; else why should the powers of darkness combine against me? Why the opposition and persecution that arose against me, almost in my infancy? (Joseph Smith History 1:14-20).

What does this vision, recorded in LDS Scripture, teach concerning God? First and foremost, it presents to us the concept of a plurality of gods. This arises from the fact that God the Father is a separate and distinct physical entity from Jesus Christ, His Son. God the Father is possessed of a physical body, as is the Son. This is why McConkie can claim the creeds of Christendom were smashed to smithereens, for the vision has always been interpreted by the LDS leadership to teach that God the Father is a separate and distinct person and being from the Son. The unity of Being that is central to Christian theology is completely denied by Joseph Smith in the First Vision. Hence, you have one God, the Father, directing Smith to another God, the Son.

While it is not our intention to critique these teachings at this point, it should be noted that there are a number of problems with the First Vision, and with the entire development of the LDS concept of God as well. As we noted, this version of the First Vision was not written until 1838. Previous versions, however, differed in substantial details from this final and official account. Most significantly, the presence of both the Father and the Son as separate and distinct gods is not a part of the earlier accounts.(4)

(2) Ezra Taft Benson, Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson (Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1988), p. 4, LDSCL. On page 101 of the same book, we read this strong statement:

The first vision of the Prophet Joseph Smith is bedrock theology to the Church. The adversary knows this and has attacked Joseph Smith’s credibility from the day he announced the visitation of the Father and the Son. You should always bear testimony to thetruth of the First Vision. Joseph Smith did see the Father and the Son. They conversed with him as he said they did. Any leader who, without reservation, cannot declare his testimony that God and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith can never be a true leader, a true shepherd. If we do not accept this truth if we have not received a witness about this great revelationwe cannot inspire faith in those whom we lead.

(3) One of Mormonism’s leading scholars, James Talmage (and a General Authority), said the following in the General Conference of April, 1920:

This Church, therefore, from its beginning, has been unique, for the organization of the Church was forecasted in this declaration that at the time of Joseph Smiths first vision there was no Church of Jesus Christ upon the earth; and I do not see why people should take issue with us for making that statement (CR1920Apr:103).

During a popinted discussion with a Mormon friend recently, I asked how Smith could have come up with hundreds of words in English translation of chapter fifty of Genesis which have no Hebrew words from which to 'treanslate'. I was assured that since Smith was a prophet, he was given the extra words from God to make Genesis more complete. The only problem with this lie is that there are more complete texts of Genesis in the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the fabricated prophecies of Smith are not ikncluded there, so the entire of his claim to be foretold in the Bible is based upon his own fabrications which he added to the Bible at strategic points. Incidentally, Smith had a Jewish scholar teaching him Hebrew, which allowed him to actually change the meaning of Genesis 1 in an astonishing way, to support Smith's notion of many gods at a council for creation. Here's the link to the LDS Smith translation of the Bible [http://scriptures.lds.org/en/jst/contents], if you have a few free hours to delve into demonic heresies on a grand scale.

Some of what you have posted about Mormon beliefs is new to me.
In the hopes of understanding these beliefs more fully, I have a couple questions for you:

Glad to help.

It seems that you assent that there is only one true God - just as most all Christian churches proclaim.

That is correct although there will be others along in a moment I am sure to tell you I don't know what I believe, or I am lying about it.

But I don’t understand what happens to glorified Mormons.
Do they become independent Gods (of lesser stature) or do they just become part of the Godhead?
If they do become part of the Godhead, how much independence do they maintain?
If a Mormon becomes part of the Godhead, do they then know the “mind of God - the creator” or are they still lacking in some faculties?

Very good questions, I can tell you are really thinking about it. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
Glorified Mormons:(According to Mormon beliefs)
a) All who are not sons of perdition will be saved in a kingdom of God, All men get a Resurrected Body.
b) The Body will reflect the kingdom you being to, terrestrial bodies, terrestrial kingdom, celestial, celestial, etc.
c) you will perform the functions of that kingdom, angel, God, etc. Only those in the celestial kingdom will have offspring, only they will be married still, only they will be Gods,
d) These celestial resurrected men and women are what I will be talking about from here on.

Independence: There are several relationships that we have with God.
A) He is our father
b) He is our creator
c) He is our God
d) He is the author of our salvation.
We will always be his children, therefore he will always be our father (no matter how old I my father is and always will be my Dad) and therefore will be in a position of authority over me.
That said, when A God creates (which is the defining act of God hood) God is in complete control of his creation, life death shape and form all up to him or her

Gods will form their own God heads.

Lacking in some Facilities... It may take forever for us to learn all that is required to become a God, luckily, we have forever (grin) so that's not a problem, judgment day just puts us on the path, for I for one still have lots to learn. OK, next block of Questions...

Do the Mormons who become God(or Gods) then merit worship from Man?

Glorified men are not worshiped by their fellow creations that would be...Weird.
The only being we as creations of God will ever worship is God our creator (which is Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Ghost which comprise our Godhead or one God.)

In other words, when you worship God, are you worshiping all glorified Mormons as well?

Absolutely not, besides judgment day has not happened yet, so they are not yet on the path to being Gods they who will be so judged are waiting judgment.

OK, next block of Questions...

If it is God’s decision to make Mormon’s part of the Godhead,

We would never become part of his Godhead, those spots are filled if you will accept that analogy.

is there an intermediate condition where you are dead but not part of the Godhead. In other words, can you be good enough not to be hell bound but still not meet the “Godhead standard”?

Absolutely, "in my father;'s house are many mansions, Mormons believe in three main kingdoms and in levels within those kingdoms. Everything will be perfectly suited to us for Go's work is a perfect work.

Is the standard for reaching “God status” well defined in Mormon teachings?

There are some specific things you need to do, beyond that God will guide you. If necessary, angles will guide you in what you need to do, you are the whole purpose of creation, so you are important to them.

Or is this status discerned by God only upon your physical death? Some people have received a witness while alive of where they were going to go. I personally have not.

Is your entire life judged by God for this purpose or just your faithful obedience after conversion - in other words, are some people with extremely heinous sins disqualified regardless of later decisions made in their lives?

Your whole life is judged, but there is no sin save Murder and denying the Holy Ghost which will not be swallowed up in baptism ,and sincere repentance (David is a good example here.) So neither of your suppositions is quite accurate here.

What about death-bed conversion - is this possible in the Mormon faith??

Yes, and no (sorry, it's the best I can do) if you are truly converted, there will be much repenting for you to do in the Spirit world while you await judgment there, Repenting there is harder than here, so do it here. Even people who did not hear about the church in this world can be converted there, that is why Mormons perform vicarious works in the temple. These works allow those who passed before the gospel was restored, to have the necessary ordinances performed on their behalf so they can achieve as much as any member today could if they live good a righteous lives when they were here. God has declared that all will have these ordinances and during the millennium, we will have access to records kept in the spirit world and will do the work for those who had no records in this life. (like the indians who left no record, Mouris, etc) all will have the opportunity to accept or reject Jesus Christ as their savior.

Whew!

BTW some thing Vicarious works are strange while accepting the Vicarious work of the atonement without question, grin.

Thanks for your input and info....

You are very welcome, and I hope you now have enough interest to pursue it though the channels open to you here, including FM me and i will be happy to chat, many do, I don't mind.

Thanks. I might actually have a few hours this week to do that. :) If so, it will be the first time in almost a year that I have been able to do such research. The Lord has had me extremely busy in other areas, but I always have an interest in apologetics research on Christian based cults.

APPENDIX

Is Mormonism Christian?

Opponents  of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been claiming we aren't Christian because our concept of the Godhood is different, we don't believe in the Traditional Trinity; we don't view God the Father to be a nonmaterial spirit; we don't believe their ontological and soteriological conceptions, because we practiced polygyny in the past, we have additional scriptures and for a myriad of other reasons. Basically, we're not Christian because we believe differently than they do. As a result, many churches and religious institutions refuse us the label of “Christian.”
There are LDS scholars that have examined the issue,1 and they show beyond a doubt that by any standard our opponents use, the  LDS church is indeed Christian.
What exactly is a “Christian”? The word can only be found in three places in the Bible:

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch.  And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

1 Pet 4:16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

The Bible is silent on what the word means but based upon other passages in the New Testament, it can be gathered that a “Christian” is one who believes Jesus Christ is:

The Savior.
The Redeemer.
The Messiah.
The Lamb of God.
The Son of God.
God.
The I AM.
The Son of Man.
Born of a virgin.
The First/Last.
The Creator.
The Paraclete/ Advocate/ Comforter.
The Mediator/ Intercessor/ Reconciler.
He died for our sins.
He died on the cross.
He rose from the dead.
The Judge.
The Foundation.
The Rock.
The only Begotten Son of God.
Worshiped.
The name used to pray to the Father.
Obeyed.
We take upon ourselves his name.
The only source of Salvation and the greatest name possible

I believe it's fair to say that if one believes and adheres to all these points concerning Jesus, and does one's best in living righteously, one is definitely a “Christian.” Our critics may argue that a “Christian” is one who accepts Jesus as one's “personal Savior” but this term is absent in the NT which only says we have to believe in Jesus for salvation (true belief is always coupled with action). Because of the absence of the term, such a condition is inapplicable. Even if such a condition is necessary, it wouldn't be a problem for us since membership in the LDS church automatically entails one view Jesus as our “personal” Savior, Redeemer and so forth. (See MORMONISM: Section 19).
This appendix will contrast the teachings of the Bible with the Latter-day Scriptures (the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price) concerning the person of Jesus Christ.  It doesn't give any commentary and limits each topic to a single page.2 Are these different sacred writings internally consistent and complementary with one another?
If the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints via its unique Latter-day Scriptures teach all of the above-mentioned views of Jesus, are we or are we not Christian? Of course we are!

JESUS CHRIST IS:

THE SAVIOR
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. / Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. / 1 Jn 4:14-15 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
1 Ne 13:40 And the angel spake unto me, saying: These last records, which thou hast seen among the Gentiles, shall establish the truth of the first, which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and shall make known the plain and precious things which have been taken away from them; and shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world; and that all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved. / 2 Ne 31:13 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ, by baptism--yea, by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost; yea, then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost; and then can ye speak with the tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel. / D&C 43:34\pard fs19  Hearken ye to these words. Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Treasure these things up in your hearts, and let the solemnities of eternity rest upon your minds. / Mos 1:6 And I have a work for thee, Moses, my son; and thou art in the similitude of mine Only Begotten; and mine Only Begotten is and shall be the Savior, for he is full of grace and truth; but there is no God beside me, and all things are present with me, for I know them all.

 THE REDEEMER

Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the  law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree. / Col 1:13-14 Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. / Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. / Tit 2:13-14 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Alma 9:26-27 And not many days hence the Son of God shall come in his glory; and his glory shall be the glory of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace, equity, and truth, full of patience, mercy, and long-suffering, quick to hear the cries of his people and to answer their prayers. And behold, he cometh to redeem those who will be baptized unto repentance, through faith on his name. / Hela 5:9 O remember, remember, my sons, the words which king Benjamin spake unto his people; yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world. / Hela 14:16-17 Yea, behold, this death bringeth to pass the resurrection, and redeemeth all mankind from the first death--that spiritual death; for all mankind, by the fall of Adam being cut off from the presence of the Lord, are considered as dead, both as to things temporal and to things spiritual. But behold, the resurrection of Christ redeemeth mankind, yea, even all mankind, and bringeth them back into the presence of the Lord. / 3 Ne 9:17 And as many as have received me, to them have I given to become the sons of God; and even so will I to as many as shall believe on my name, for behold, by me redemption cometh, and in me is the law of Moses fulfilled. / D&C 49:5 Thus saith the Lord; for I am God, and have sent mine Only Begotten Son into the world for the redemption of the world, and have decreed that he that receiveth him shall be saved, and he that receiveth him not shall be damned.

THE MESSIAH
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
Matt 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. / Mark 14:61-62 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. / John 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
1 Ne 10:9-11 And my father said he should baptize in Bethabara, beyond Jordan; and he also said he should baptize with water; even that he should baptize the Messiah with water. And after he had baptized the Messiah with water, he should behold and bear record that he had baptized the Lamb of God, who should take away the sins of the world ... And after they had slain the Messiah, who should come, and after he had been slain he should rise from the dead, and should make himself manifest, by the Holy Ghost, unto the Gentiles. / 2 Ne 25:18-19 Wherefore, he shall bring forth his words unto them, which words shall judge them at the last day, for they shall be given them for the purpose of convincing them of the true Messiah, who was rejected by them; and unto the convincing of them that they need not look forward any more for a Messiah to come, for there should not any come, save it should be a false Messiah which should deceive the people; for there is save one Messiah spoken of by the prophets, and that Messiah is he who should be rejected of the Jews. For according to the words of the prophets, the Messiah cometh in six hundred years from the time that my father left Jerusalem; and according to the words of the prophets, and also the word of the angel of God, his name shall be Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

THE LAMB OF GOD
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
John 1:29,36 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world ... And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!  / 1 Pet 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. / Rev 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. / Rev 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed [are] they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. / Rev 22:1,3 AND he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lambin ... And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him.
1 Ne 10:10 And after he had baptized the Messiah with water, he should behold and bear record that he had baptized the Lamb of God, who should take away the sins of the world. / 1 Ne 11:27 And I looked and beheld the Redeemer of the world, of whom my father had spoken; and I also beheld the prophet who should prepare the way before him. And the Lamb of God went forth and was baptized of him; and after he was baptized, I beheld the heavens open, and the Holy Ghost come down out of heaven and abide upon him in the form of a dove. / 2 Ne 31:5 And now, if the Lamb of God, he being holy, should have need to be baptized by water, to fulfil all righteousness, O then, how much more need have we, being unholy, to be baptized, yea, even by water! / Alma 7:14 Now I say unto you that ye must repent, and be born again; for the Spirit saith if ye are not born again ye cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore come and be baptized unto repentance, that ye may be washed from your sins, that ye may have faith on the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world, who is mighty to save and to cleanse from all unrighteousness. / D&C 88:106 And again, another angel shall sound his trump, which is the seventh angel, saying: It is finished; it is finished! The Lamb of God hath overcome and trodden the wine-press alone, even the wine-press of the fierceness of the wrath of Almighty God.

 THE SON OF GOD
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech [you] by us: we pray [you] in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

THE FOUNDATION
Bible

1 Cor 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. / Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone].
Hela 5:12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall. / Jacob 4:15-17 And now I, Jacob, am led on by the Spirit unto prophesying; for I perceive by the workings of the Spirit which is in me, that by the stumbling of the Jews they will reject the stone upon which they might build and have safe foundation. But behold, according to the scriptures, this stone shall become the great, and the last, and the only sure foundation, upon which the Jews can build. And now, my beloved, how is it possible that these, after having rejected the sure foundation, can ever build upon it, that it may become the head of their corner?

Acts 4:10-11 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner./ Rom 9:33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. / 1 Cor 10:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
1 Ne 15:15 And then at that day will they not rejoice and give praise unto their everlasting God, their rock and their salvation? Yea, at that day, will they not receive the strength and nourishment from the true vine? Yea, will they not come unto the true fold of God?/ Jac 4:15-16 And now I, Jacob, am led on by the Spirit unto prophesying; for I perceive by the workings of the Spirit which is in me, that by the stumbling of the Jews they will reject the stone upon which they might build and have safe foundation. But behold, according to the scriptures, this stone shall become the great, and the last, and the only sure foundation, upon which the Jews can build. / Hela 5:12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall. / tlineMos 7:53 And the Lord said: Blessed is he through whose seed Messiah shall come; for he saith--I am Messiah, the King of Zion, the Rock of Heaven, which is broad as eternity; whose cometh in at the gate and climbeth up by me shall never fall; wherefore, blessed are they of whom I have spoken, for they shall come forth with songs of everlasting joy.

THE ONLY BEGOTTEN OF THE FATHER
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
John 1:14,18 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth ... No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him]. / John 3:16,18 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life ... He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. / 1 Jn 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
2 Ne 25:12 But, behold, they shall have wars, and rumors of wars; and when the day cometh that the Only Begotten of the Father, yea, even the Father of heaven and of earth, shall manifest himself unto them in the flesh, behold, they will reject him, because of their iniquities, and the hardness of their hearts, and the stiffness of their necks. / Jac 4:11 Wherefore, beloved brethren, be reconciled unto him through the atonement of Christ, his Only Begotten Son, and ye may obtain a resurrection, according to the power of the resurrection which is in Christ, and be presented as the first-fruits of Christ unto God, having faith, and obtained a good hope of glory in him before he manifesteth himself in the flesh. / Alma 5:48 I say unto you, that I know of myself that whatsoever I shall say unto you, concerning that which is to come, is true; and I say unto you, that I know that Jesus Christ shall come, yea, the Son, the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace, and mercy, and truth. And behold, it is he that cometh to take away the sins of the world, yea, the sins of every man who steadfastly believeth on his name. / D&C 20:21 Wherefore, the Almighty God gave his Only Begotten Son, as it is written in those scriptures which have been given of him. /D&C 76:23 For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father. / Mos 1:6 And I have a work for thee, Moses, my son; and thou art in the similitude of mine Only Begotten; and mine Only Begotten is and shall be the Savior, for he is full of grace and truth; but there is no God beside me, and all things are present with me, for I know them all.

WORSHIPED
Bible

And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him ... And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. / Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him. / Luke 24:52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. /  John 9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. / Heb 1:6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
2 Ne 25:29 And now behold, I say unto you that the right way is to believe in Christ, and deny him not; and Christ is the Holy One of Israel; wherefore ye must bow down before him, and worship him with all your might, mind, and strength, and your whole soul; and if ye do this ye shall in nowise be cast out. / 3 Ne 11:17 Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him. / 3 Ne 19:18 And behold, they began to pray; and they did pray unto Jesus, calling him their Lord and their God. / D&C 76:21 And saw the holy angels, and them who are sanctified before his throne, worshiping God, and the Lamb, who worship him forever and ever.

THE NAME USED TO PRAY TO THE FATHER
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. / John 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you. / Rom 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. / Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. / Eph 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. / Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Jac 4:5 Behold, they believed in Christ and worshiped the Father in his name, and also we worship the Father in his name. And for this intent we keep the law of Moses, it pointing our souls to him; and for this cause it is sanctified unto us for righteousness, even as it was accounted unto Abraham in the wilderness to be obedient unto the commands of God in offering up his son Isaac, which is a similitude of God and his Only Begotten Son. /  3 Ne 18:21 Pray in your families unto the Father, always in my name, that your wives and your children may be blessed. / 3 Ne 19:6-8 And the twelve did teach the multitude; and behold, they did cause that the multitude should kneel down upon the face of the earth, and should pray unto the Father in the name of Jesus. And the disciples did pray unto the Father also in the name of Jesus ... behold, they knelt again and prayed to the Father in the name of Jesus. / D&C 18:40 And you shall fall down and worship the Father in my name. / Mos 7:50 And it came to pass that Enoch continued his cry unto the Lord, saying: I ask thee, O Lord, in the name of thine Only Begotten, even Jesus Christ, that thou wilt have mercy upon Noah and his seed, that the earth might never more be covered by the floods.

OBEYED
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. / Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? / 2 Cor 10:5-6 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. / Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him. / 1 Pet 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and linesprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
D&C 42:2 Again I say unto you, hearken and hear and obey the law which I shall give unto you. / D&C 52:15-16 Wherefore he that prayeth, whose spirit is contrite, the same is accepted of me if he obey mine ordinances. He that speaketh, whose spirit is contrite, whose language is meek and edifieth, the same is of God if he obey mine ordinances. / D&C 56:3 Behold, I, the Lord, command; and he that will not obey shall be cut off in mine own due time, after I have commanded and the commandment is broken. / D&C 93:1 Verily, thus saith the Lord: It shall come to pass that every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name, and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am. / D&C 98:22 And again I say unto you, if ye observe to do whatsoever I command you, I, the Lord, will turn away all wrath and indignation from you, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.

WE TAKE UPON OURSELVES HIS NAME
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. / Acts 5:41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. / Acts 15:26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. / Acts 21:13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. / 2 Th 1:12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Mosi 26:24 For behold, in my name are they called; and if they know me they shall come forth, and shall have a place eternally at my right hand. / Morm 9:29 See that ye are not baptized unworthily; see that ye partake not of the sacrament of Christ unworthily; but see that ye do all things in worthiness, and do it in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God; and if ye do this, and endure to the end, ye will in nowise be cast out. / Moro 4:3 O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it; that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him, and keep his commandments which he hath given them, that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen. / D&C 18:21 Take upon you the name of Christ, and speak the truth in soberness. / D&C 20:37 And again, by way of commandment to the church concerning the manner of baptism--All those who humble themselves before God, and desire to be baptized, and come forth with broken hearts and contrite spirits, and witness before the church that they have truly repented of all their sins, and are willing to take upon them the name of Jesus Christ, having a determination to serve him to the end, and truly manifest by their works that they have received of the Spirit of Christ unto the remission of their sins, shall be received by baptism into his church.

THE ONLY SOURCE OF SALVATION / THE GREATEST NAME
Bible
Latter-day Scriptures
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. /  Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. / Eph 1:20-21 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set [him] at his own right hand in the heavenly [places], Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. / Phil 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
2 Ne 25:20 And now, my brethren, I have spoken plainly that ye cannot err ... as the Lord God liveth, there is none other name given under heaven save it be this Jesus Christ, of which I have spoken, whereby man can be saved. / Mosi 3:17 And moreover, I say unto you, that there shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent./ Mosi 5:8 And under this head ye are made free, and there is no other head whereby ye can be made free. There is no other name given whereby salvation cometh; therefore, I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ, all you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives. / Alma 38:9 And now, my son, I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn of me that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness. / D&C 18:23 Behold, Jesus Christ is the name which is given of the Father, and there is none other name given whereby man can be saved. / Mos 6:52 And he also said unto him: If thou wilt turn unto me, and hearken unto my voice, and believe, and repent of all thy transgressions, and be baptized, even in water, in the name of mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth, which is Jesus Christ, the only name which shall be given under heaven, whereby salvation shall come unto the children of men, ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, asking all things in his name, and whatsoever ye shall ask, it shall be given you.

This study has demonstrated the astonishing internal consistency of the Latter-day Scriptures with the Bible on the person of Jesus and begs the question at how could an uneducated young man, Joseph Smith, create these works within such a short period, without the modern biblical tools we take for granted? The consistency is incredible! The teachings from these disparate works are identical and shows they are different fruit from the same tree! No one has ever come close to writing books whose genre, spirit and concepts are identical with the NT literature. If Joseph Smith wasnÂ’t a true prophet, what could he be with his creation of the Latter-day Scriptures?
The Latter-day Scriptures of the LDS church teaches the same thing the New Testament does concerning the personage of Jesus. By all of the beliefs needed in him, Mormons fully qualify as being Christians. Our opponentsÂ’ exclusion of the term to us is a futile attempt to pretend Mormons are non-Christian since weÂ’re clearly not and no matter how often or how vocal they are still doesnÂ’t change the fact that we really are Christians.
Even if the Latter-day Scriptures didnÂ’t contain a single passage that taught the same thing the Bible says about Jesus; we would still be considered Christians because we accept the NT as the Word of God and accept all of these concepts relating to him.
It is unfortunate that there are certain people who allege to be “Christians” who will persist in claiming Mormons arenÂ’t “Christians” despite the points identified here clearly demonstrate we really are. What is their basis for such a claim? Could their argument prevail against the massive scriptural evidences that Mormonism is indeed Christian? Why do they continue to assert weÂ’re not Christians when such a claim is demonstrably false?
The fact of the matter is the only one who can judge who really is a Christian is God and the individual who believes he is. I donÂ’t have a right to claim someone isnÂ’t a Christian when he believes he is, and no one has the right to tell me IÂ’m not when I know I am.

"I will now give you a description of the manner in which the Book of Mormon was translated. Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light; and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing. One character at a time would appear, and under it was the interpretation in English."   51 Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to aprove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.

IOW Mormons are Christian because “There are LDS scholars that have examined the issue,1 and they show beyond a doubt that by any standard our opponents use, the LDS church is indeed Christian.”

We’ve even put together a chart of ways in which we are alike.....but we’ve puposely hidded the differences ....we wouldn’t want to give them meat before milk and scare any of our potential tithe payers away.

Delphi, you forget that I KNOW what the LDS Church teaches. This miles and miles of information is crap. It is purposely elusive. You know it too, don’t you?

Smith was a fraud.

You keep saying that, yet everytime you think you have the "Killer post" it is either a fake, a mistranslation or a misquote, what will it tike for you assulters of the truth to give up?

The funerary document Smith claimed was the book of Abraham has been found numerous times buried with mummies from Egypt, exactly the same, with only a different name of the embalmed as a variation on the text.

The Book of the dead is also often accompanied by books of scripture. Some now found to be very similar to the book of abraham you know htat there were three books yet you only talk about one, I wonder why.

Keep it up, apologist.

We will, don't worry, we will.

The light is good for FR as we oppose this cult and expose the lies and fraudulent claims.

Yes, the light is good on FR and everyone sees your actions here as well as mine. I am comfortable with that.

Otherwise; the RESt of it was quite true!
