Great reading that may challenge your perceptions.
Oh, really? Who?
Many people assume that the Ten Commandments and the covenant God established with ancient Israel are identicaland that both were abolished by Jesus Christ's death.

Just a study note regarding the different meanings of Rom 4:15 and 1stJohn 3:4 english translation of the word “transgression” from the Greek.
The transgression referred to in 1st john 3:4 is a different Greek word referring to an iniquity or unrighteousness, a transgression of the law, HANOMIA.

The author makes a logical error in his argument by identifying the two words to argue his conclusion, ie. its invalid. This doesn;t mean his statements aren’t true, merely that the argument isn’t sound.
Is this a Scripture debate, or archaeological/historical debate thread?
Quite a few pre-Jewish religions had equivalents and parallel teachings, most influential to Judeo-Christian philosophy being the Zoroastrian Asha Vahishta.
But that might not be along the lines you wanted to have this thread follow.
The author has apparently never heard of Natural Law.
Romans 5:13-14 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to MosesNote the progeression here, God gave the promise to Abraham before he gave the law.Romans 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound.
Gal 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
The old law was clearly and explicitly not abolished. It was summed up (fulfilled) in the new law which is supposedly to be the Golden Rule but is actually explicitly stated and repeated in case it was overlooked in Mt.
What does the Bible say?
Anyone who claims to be a Christian, yet steals, lies, and cheats 7 days a week is blotting his own name out of the Book of Life.
We have no right to call Jesus, "Lord" and not do what he says.
Obedience brings victory.
I had never looked at this, but after reading the article, it makes complete sense.
Deu 5:1 ¶ And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.
Deu 5:2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
Deu 5:3 The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, [even] us, who [are] all of us here alive this day.
Deu 5:4 The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
Deu 5:5 (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,
Deu 5:6 ¶ I [am] the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
Deu 5:7 ¶ Thou shalt have none other gods before me.
NOT WITH OUR FATHERS! There it is.
Actually, this piece is the perfect answer to the last thread; it is precisely what I was groping for the words for: Mosaic law was abolished, but God’s law is eternal. Hence, the 700-or-so restrictions on Jews were not applied to Gentiles, including dietary restrictions, circumcision, festivals, etc.; but the ten commandments are eternal.
The Ten Commandments are a clear enunciation of the righteousness demanded by our Creator. As such they have always existed, and they will always be a source of accusation not only from God toward humankind, but also between humans.
My question is: What is the difference between an accusation that comes through the Ten Commandments and an accusation that comes through Satan?
12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
