I'm sure that by now all of you have heard about the claim that the ossuary of Christ's family has been found.
I would like to open a thread that will help us develop answers to friends, both Christians and atheists who might come to us with questions about it all.
Please feel free to post your rebuttals for others to use!

If you saw who won at the Academy Awards (I won't assume you have since almost nobody did), Hollywood is taking a stand for falsehood at every turn. From Al Gore's Oscar for the myth of Global Warming to Martin "Last Temptation" Scorcese's pathetic embrace, it is clear whose side Hollywood has decided to be on. The side of decadence and anti-Christ. I'm sure they will gladly line up in droves to produce the AC's first propaganda films for him as well and do community service announcements about how wonderful and hip it is to have a mark on one's forehead or right hand.

wouldn't the Pharisees have had a better chance of knowing of this tomb than we do 2000 years later? And wouldn't they have used such information? And wouldn't the Romans have done the same? Wouldn't the pre-Damascus Paul have used this info? Are we trying to say the tomb was secret? Then why are the names there?
The only evidence that Cameron has that this could possibly be Jesus' tomb is this group of names. There is a very big problem with that.
Where does he get this list of names? From the Gospels. There is no other historical documents that put these names together.
Now these are the same Gospels that he debunks as being incorrect. He argues that the Gospels are wrong about the death and resurrection of Jesus, that Jesus was married, and by adding a son he even changes the list of names that he uses as evidence of his find.
You cannot say that the Gospels are correct on one point and incorrect on another without external corroboration. You are saying that the Gospels are reliable enough to be a source for some information but not reliable enough to be believed in other areas. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either the Gospels are a fictionalized version of Jesus' life thus everything they say must be questioned or they are a sincere biography and can be trusted to be mostly accurate.
To prove his theory, Cameron must find historical evidence (outside of early Christian writings) that proves Jesus did exist, and which groups His name with the others. Failing to do that makes his findings very unscientific and amounts to intellectual laziness.

I think the vast majority of them are so ill informed they have no idea who they are embracing. They have no idea that the exceptionalism of America is a product of our Christianity.
I find that I rather spend most of my time watching sporting events than a Hollywood product.
Good points. And so I would add this: what is the best explanation for the existence of those well-worn NT names all in close proximity? Forgery, in ca 3rd-4th century, by a Christian promoting his discovery of a Jesus-family tomb.

Let me try that again:
Cameron is using the same book (the Bible) he debunks as his only source for his list of names. You cannot call a book a lie while using it as you only factual reference.
