Where does he get this list of names? From the Gospels. There is no other historical documents that put these names together.

Does he have to ascribe deity to Jesus in order to accept that this list of names might be accurate?

Now these are the same Gospels that he debunks as being incorrect. He argues that the Gospels are wrong about the death and resurrection of Jesus, that Jesus was married, and by adding a son he even changes the list of names that he uses as evidence of his find.

First of all he doesn't argue that the death and resurrection are wrong. He offers that the resurrection may have still taken place perhaps at a different location. Be that as it may because he doesn't accept certain interpretations of the writings doesn't mean he should dismiss out of hand other geographical and historical information. You should have no problem that he added a name to the list. You're the one wanting him to use another source other than the NT.

I think his evidence is shaky at best. But sheesh if you're going to attempt to debunk his theories at least try and be accurate.

You cannot call a book a lie while using it as you only factual reference.

Sure you can. The protocols of the elders of zion was a lie but some geographical and historical info was correct. Clinton's memoirs will have Washington, DC on the east coast I'm sure.

Why can't I be happy for you? Because I share Paul's sadness that you remain apart from Christ.

It is a freedom well-worth possessing.

As Jesus read from Isaiah...

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

To preach the acceptable year of the Lord." -- Luke 4:18-19

I think the vast majority of them are so ill informed they have no idea who they are embracing.

I wish that were true. Sadly, most of Hollywood knows exactly what they are embracing and they're proud of it.

Films like "American Beauty" and "Cider House Rules" and "Crash" and "Babel" are put in front of the American audience with a clear agenda. And unsuspecting, indiscriminate fools lap it up.

Or so Hollywood would have us believe. There's a very good reason attendance is down.

Where did you get that from?

You do realize that your first sentence contradicts your second sentence.

Certainly faith is a gift of God.

Though our exercise of it may involve some willfulness.

To those who have been given faith, every star, ocean, hair, sparrow, child, storm and mountain serves Jesus Christ. All things were made by Him, for Him. Because we have been quickened by Him, because we are not of this world but of God, we understand this and believe. The "evidence" is everywhere, most especially in Scripture, and there we learn of our salvation.

Agreed.

Ludicrous. Are you saying the NT has no historical or geographical value at all for the non-beleiver?
= = =

I've read a fair number asserting it had no redeeming social value at all.

Of course . . . 'blind' bias makes all kinds of brash statements.

Yep, we're a willful lot. Good thing God sends the Holy Spirit to conform our wills to His.

"But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus" -- Ephesians 2:4-6

Oh please. Don't be sad. As Paul said, "Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice".

As Jesus read from Isaiah...

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord." -- Luke 4:18-19

Again, be happy. After all, I'm happy for you. :-)

That all got? I thought you were going to continue to show me where the NT had no historical or geographical significance to the unbeliever.

Why bother arguing about it? If your faith tells you that it's not true, you'll not change your own mind, and likely won't change anyone else's either.

Hate to say it, but "The Last Temptation of Christ" was far from an anti-Christian movie. Granted it depicted scenes we normally don't associated with Jesus' life, but those were represented as a "fantasy temptation" for Christ to step down off the cross and lead a "normal" mortal life, rather than enduring the pain, suffering, and weight of the world's sin.

If you can watch it and read the message contained, it's really a terrific testament to what Jesus gave up to die for your sins. Dafoe played the most "human" Jesus I've ever seen, and not the overly-deified portrayal you normally see.

I like to think in his time on earth, Jesus was a man, with temptations, fears, and doubts like any other man, but one who ultimately had the courage and conviction to fulfill his destiny.
