Blogger quits Edwards campaign in light of conservative criticism
One of the chief campaign bloggers for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards quit Monday after conservative critics raised questions about her history of provocative online messages.
Amanda Marcotte posted on her personal blog, Pandagon, that the criticism "was creating a situation where I felt that every time I coughed, I was risking the Edwards campaign." Marcotte said she resigned from her position Monday, and that her resignation was accepted by the campaign.
Kate Bedingfield, a spokeswoman for the Edwards campaign, confirmed that Marcotte was "no longer working for the campaign." She declined additional comment.
Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, demanded last week that Edwards fire Marcotte and a second blogger, Melissa McEwan, for remarks he deemed anti-Catholic. Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, called the messages personally offensive, but decided to keep Marcotte and McEwan on staff.
"No matter what you think about the campaign, I signed on to be a supporter and a tireless employee for them, and if I can't do the job I was hired to do because Bill Donohue doesn't have anything better to do with his time than harass me, then I won't do it," Marcotte wrote Monday night.
Earlier Monday, Marcotte wrote on her personal Web site, "The Christian version of the virgin birth is generally interpreted as super-patriarchal, where ... women are nothing but vessels."
Donohue called both Marcotte and McEwan "foul-mouthed bigots." He did not return a phone call seeking comment Monday night.
McEwan remains on the Edwards campaign staff. She did not return messages left Monday.
Commentary. I love how the AP is portraying this as a consequence of "conservative pressure." I want to find any "liberal" Christian applauding references to the Holy Spirit as "semen" or lamenting that the Mother of Jesus didn't abort him. As always, the Mainstream Media gets it all wrong and reports distorted facts without due consideration or respect to Christian believers.
Marcotte is out. If McEwan has any self-respect left, she would quit too. Foul-mouthed bigots do not belong in anyone's presidential campaign. Senator Edwards has shown himself weak and unable to control what happens in his campaign in his unconscionable defense of these miscreants. I have to question his integrity. And the AP is free to contact me if they want me to expand on my comments. (HA!)
PING again!

To be honest I don't think it was "anti-catholic" in the way it's generally used to mean Country Club style bigotry. However, the bratty tone of liberals towards religious people in general has to change. I think Kerry lost alot more votes than people realize because of that.
It was that, but is was more... it was far more... it was the most foul of blasphemy against all Christians or believers in general.
She also blogged hateful things against the white race in general (she's white), men, and it goes on....
"This will not endear him to Catholics."
This will harm him with faithful Christians of all sects. This whole situation is hypocritical and outrageous upon Edwards part.
Michelle Malkin 1 Breck Girl 0!!!!
I agree with your statement, there was no doubt about how the Dummo's felt about the Christian vote during the election.
It was shortly after the election that Hillary declared herself an EVANGELICAL!! I was waiting for Christ to come off the cross after her statement!!
All of the Dummo's are anti religious but will play the part to acquire votes.
The one thign that is and will be missing from the next election is a TRUE AMERICAN running for office. All of them have sold us out, ALL OF THEM!

Dear Miss Marcotte;
During the recent controversy surrounding your employment with the John Edwards campaign, I had occasion to come across your flickr site: www.flickr.com/photos/amandamarcotte
I notice the large number of pictures of cats and pictures of you and cats.
(Below are some examples.)
It really distresses me that you may be crossing that fine line between "cute young coed" and "crazy cat lady"
Perhaps, you should get out of Austin and perhaps date some regular guys. Constantly dating "tortured writers/muscians/artists/web designers/activitist/blogger" does tend to warps one's perceptions.
Secondly, if I may respectfully suggest that maybe a little make-up and a change of wardrobe may also help. You are a handsome girl and it might help you find a man.
All it takes is a little bit of effort and I have no doubt the right guy to come around.
Respectfully,
Panzerkardinal
(Sadly, I've not gotten any responses)
This chickadee is beyond any help...or change.
It would take a major life event to help this poor creature.
That bigot wants to hate more than behave. The other wants to try to behave, for the moment.
Ping again.
Words fail me, I just keep laughing.
I am a dog person, very little use for cats.
Would you believe me if I said I was a cat person? ;-)
Really Pyro, really?
Picture this in your mind, a young priest walking along some nice walking path saying the office. Of course, he is wearing a cassock. Now a dog would fit into this picture just perfectly, like a Wolfhound, or some other majestic dog. None of those stupid yappy little dogs.
It just wouldn't work with a cat. Nope, definitely needs a dog. And mist. (can't tell you why, that's just the way I see it)
See, that's how I envision you, FSSP cassock, saying the office, with a dog. Yep, you're going to have to change. :)
On the other hand, there is an older couple who lives in the area I live now who have a gorgeous dog (it reminds me of the dog from the "White Fang" movie, except with longer white fur). I wouldn't mind having a dog like that.
I actually never owned a cat. My family briefly took care of a stray, but my parents were allergic. Another one of the neighborhood kids when I was growing up had two cats that I liked to play with. My piano instructor had two. A former housemate of mine also had two. So I guess I just lean towards cats out of experience.
Bump for later!
I had great cat experiences growing up, but I lean towards dogs because they got to live in our house with us. And both of my parents dogs, a collie and a golden retriever, are so good with my girls. Their cats ignore my girls, which is most likely for the best, but I am still miffed at them.
My favorite cat as a child was the cat who thought he was a dog. Behaved way more like a dog than a cat, even down to the drooling on you.
Big dogs are the way to go.
I don't think she should have quit, considering that she represents Senator Edwards's views so perfectly.
Dang ... I was hoping those two freaks would hang on a little longer. They're perfect exponents of what the Democrat Party believes. Their only "fault" is that they, like Barak Hussein Obama, are very up-front about it.
