BIBLE CODE DIGEST PART II JULY/AUGUST 2006

Bible Codes:
A Sign of the End Times?

By Ed Sherman

Map of Israel from Wikipedia.org. [was OMITTED as it wouldn't post]

Is the discovery of substantive Bible codes a telling sign that we are living in the End Times? Most people intrigued by Bible codes seek predictions of the future. And the more detailed the prediction, the better. But what if the Encoder simply intended that Bible codes would only provide a general prediction that we are living in the end times?

After years of research, we are of the opinion that individual Bible codes are only prophetic fragments, which are insufficient in detail to form the basis for a reliable prediction. Further, many codes present a point of view, which may either be that of a truthful source or of an untruthful source. And we haven't been able to find a way to tell which is the case for any individual code. [QC]

Yet there is a tremendous amount of evidence that the phenomenon itself is real. The extent of encoding is far beyond what can be explained by chance. [QC]

This combination of observations points to the notion that Bible codes, while individually unreliable [so far—in terms of specific, narrow predictions—aren’t worded in such terms, usually--Qx], offer a clear sign that we are living in the End Times. A good case can be made for this from the literal text of the Bible itself.

Recently, I have been reading Sir Isaac Newton's book, Observations Upon the Prophecies of Daniel, and the Apocalypse of St. John.1 On page 250 he states, " . . . the prophecies of Daniel and John should not be understood till the time of the end: but that some should prophesy out of it in an afflicted and mournful state for a long time, and that but darkly, so as to convert but few. But in the very end, the Prophecy should be so far interpreted so as to convince many. Then saith Daniel, many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased."

The last sentence, after "Then saith Daniel," is a direct quote from the last half of Daniel 12:4. The entire verse reads, "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."

[Qx: It’s interesting to me, that the knowledge increasing has also occurred at a time when English has increasingly become an international bonding, exchange medium for said knowledge increase. Such was mentioned when God reacted to the Tower of Babel—the last time the whole world could exchange vast knowledge in the same language across so many regions and people groups.]

Later verse 9 states, "And he said, 'Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.' " So "the book" is to be sealed "until the time of the end" and when the book is opened, it will be "the time of the end." Could Bible codes be those words?

Various Bible commentators have noted that "many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase" is a prophecy that travel will greatly increase and an explosion of new knowledge will be a sign of "the time of the end." Few would argue that we do not live in such a time.

The phrase "run to and fro" is a translation of the Hebrew verb yeeshottu .

This verb only appears once in the Old Testament with this exact spelling. Some variants of this verb appear in passages describing people "running to and fro."

• The verb shottu • • appears in Jeremiah 5:1 ("Roam around in the streets of Jerusalem . . . "). • The verb heetshotahtnah • • appears in Jeremiah 49:3 ("run to and fro in the walls"). • The verb yeeshottu with an additional vav • • appears in Amos 8:12 ("they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.").

There is an alternative interpretation for the last half of Daniel 12:4 based on the context in which two other variants appear in other interesting passages. The first is 2 Chronicles 16:9:

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

Another is Zechariah 4:10: They are the eyes of the Lord which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.

The Hebrew verb mehshoht-toht in 2 Chronicles 16:9 and mehshoht-teem in Zechariah 4:10 are descriptive of a divine search engine. God instantly scans the hearts of everyone in search of those who are truly loyal to Him.

We live in the age of the Internet, where search engines enable us to access an unprecedented range of information almost instantly. But there may be more.

What are Bible codes but the result of running a search engine through the text of the Hebrew Bible looking for a specific string of letters that are equally spaced from one another? Bible code researchers are "running to and fro" through the Hebrew letters of the Old Testament with the aid of current software. Arguably, Bible codes could represent the opening of the book that was sealed in the time of Daniel, as described in Daniel 12:9. If that is so, Bible codes themselves are a sign of "the time of the end."

What is "the time of the end" to be like? Daniel 12:1-3 and 10, provides a series of clues:

. . . There shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.

Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.

Daniel 12:1-3 states that there is a book with the names of everyone who will be saved. Could this book be the one unlocked by Bible codes? In considering this possibility, we shouldn't just focus on simple ELSs. As highlighted in An Introduction to the Range of Types of Bible Code Phenomena,

there are over twenty types of ELS phenomena that have been discovered (or proposed) to date. This huge range of possibilities could well include all the names mentioned in Daniel 12:2. It will remain to be seen what further research will uncover on this topic.

Daniel 12:1 states that the End Times "shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time." It takes little imagination to envision how the current crisis in the Middle East could escalate into a worldwide conflict of unparalleled proportions. We should all be on our knees, praying for peace and the easing of international tensions. It may not be long before the Day of Judgment mentioned in Daniel 12 is upon us, and every person will be judged by how real their faith in God was.

SORRY, IT APPEARS THAT THE HEBREW MAY NOT POST--not showing up in PREVIEW. The BibleCodesDigest.com folks may have changed such options.

I think the points made and questions asked are quite reasonable.

I personally am still skeptical that everyone's name is coded in Scripture. But, it's an interesting idea. It's inherently hard to prove because names alone are typically too short to be statistically significant--they can too easily be construe statistically to have occurred by chance alone.

We shall see.

I think the other END TIMES points are quite apt.

Every time there is trouble in the Mideast the "end times' industry makes a few more bucks.

The War at the
End of Times
What Do Bible Codes
from Ezekiel Indicate?

By Moshe Aharon (Morris) Shak

Introduction

Ed Sherman, the founder of Bible Code Digest, mentioned to me that in Ezekiel 40 the appearance of the term war appears several times more often than expected by chance alone. Specifically, a Hebrew term for war appears 17 times in Ezekiel 40:1-41:1 with a skip of 335 or less, even though it is only expected to appear 4.37 times by chance. He asked me to look at these seventeen occurrences for possible extensions.

To my surprise, I found significant extensions of the eight war terms with the shortest skips. Of the next 11 terms, only three had significant extensions.

What is truly remarkable is that the extensions of the eight terms with the shortest skips all focus tightly on the subject of war. Here is my best translation of these terms:

There are, of course, other possible translations for many of these terms. These are presented later in this article. The next table presents a summary of the basic story provided by each extended term.

Links to the Literal Text

The extended matrix that contains the extensions to the first eight terms war starts at Ezekiel 38:13:71 and ends at Ezekiel 42:6:39.

In chapter 40, Hashem's messenger measures the areas intended for the temple for the prophet Ezekiel. The chapter deals specifically with the outer gates, the courts, and the buildings within. Chapter 41 deals with the actual temple and Holy of Holies. Chapter 42 deals with detailed descriptions of some of the buildings in the courts. Scholars have determined that the descriptions do not exactly match the first or second temple, but consider it likely to be the description of the Third Temple at the End of Times. The other great event at the End of Times is the war of Gog and Magog that Ezekiel describes in the previous two chapters (38 and 39).

Some of the extended codes based on the term war found in chapter 40 describe the prophecies of Ezekiel in chapters 38 and 39.

Hashem will make "them" want to go to war . . . (See skip 144) And I will turn thee about, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed most gorgeously, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords. (Ezekiel 38:4) [emphasis mine]

And I will turn thee about and lead thee on, and will cause thee to come up from the uttermost parts of the north; and I will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel. (Ezekiel 39:2) [emphasis mine, see also Zechariah 14:2 below]

The spoils of war . . . (See skip 168) To take the spoil and to take the prey; to turn thy hand against the waste places that are now inhabited, and against the people that are gathered out of the nations, that have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the middle of the earth. (Ezekiel 38:12) [emphasis mine]

For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, but the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. (Zechariah 14:2) [emphasis mine]

The eruption of Hashem's volcano . . . See Ezekiel 38:19-22, a description of a volcano and earthquake. (See skip 78) For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath have I spoken: Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel. (Ezekiel 38:19) [emphasis mine]

Every man's sword shall be against his brother. (See skip -194) And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD; every man's sword shall be against his brother. (Ezekiel 38:21) [emphasis mine]

And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour. (Zechariah 14:13)

Hashem's yoke will be apparent . . . (See skip -18) Thus will I magnify Myself, and sanctify Myself, and I will make Myself known in the eyes of many nations; and they shall know that I am the LORD. (Ezekiel 38:23)

According to my book Bible Codes Breakthrough, I only look at the lowest skip of a term in a given area of search in order to extend it. Usually, the extensions do not make sense. To get several extensions is exceptional. On the other hand, if there are several of the same terms at different skips, and they can all be extended to give meaningful codes, I use them all.

Once there is a gap where a term or two cannot be extended, I look no further at terms with a higher skip. From my perspective, the Bible at the purest ship of plus one (the surface text) is the most direct and effective way to understand a message. As we look at longer skips, the messages seem to fade.

The exception in my opinion is when each higher skip gives additional information. I believe that the search for the term war or illustrates the point. I believe that the lowest skip found in the area should be considered first, second skip second, and so on. Upon following this principle, we get a fascinating story about the End of Days. Before we get into that journey, note that only the first eight terms are extended in this search.

Another interesting feature is that the term war in this area at its lowest skip of minus 18 (-18) has an heh in front. This changes the term from an ordinary war to THE WAR. Most will agree that THE WAR from the beginning of time to the end of time is the anticipated: the "Gog and Magog" war at the End of Times. If we consider that there are only three other occurrences of skips lower than 18 in the Bible for the war, it is remarkable (the war in the surface text with a skip of one is not considered).

The Eight ELSs and Their Meanings

One way to evaluate what a code means is to look at where the words in that code first appear in the surface text of the Bible. By examining the meaning of those passages, we can glean a better understanding of what the codes may mean.

First ELS

The war is Hashem's yoke to mix up/confuse.
Skip = -18

[As an example, the children of Israel faced wars when they did not obey the laws of the Torah, and were also mixed up within the nations of the world. Hashem is using war as a yoke to confuse and mix up (those that do not listen).]

Confound:

First appearance in the Bible:

Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth; and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. (Genesis 11:9)

The War:

First appearance in the Bible:

And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war. (Numbers 31:14)

The war in reference was a "mix-up" war. Hashem wanted it to be a punishing war (just as at the End of Times) against Midian. The children of Israel were not to take any spoils of war. However, in Numbers 31:9 it states, "And the children of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones; and all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods, they took for a prey." At the End of Times (see the term at skip 168 below) the wicked will also want the spoils of war. Women are first on the list of spoils. There is also a reference to that in the discussion of the seventh ELS.

Lord:

First appearance in the Bible:

The LORD is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation; this is my God, and I will glorify Him; my father's God, and I will exalt Him. (Exodus 15:2)

This Scripture is a reference to the first instance of the war. The war that Hashem fought for the children of Israel when He defeated the Egyptian army by drowning them in the Red Sea.

Second appearance in the Bible:

And he said: "The hand upon the throne of the LORD: the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation." (Exodus 17:16)

This is a reference to all the wars including the final war at the End of Times against the wicked.

Second ELS

Abomination they are to Him – to Hashem.
His mouth of volcano (is) Hashem war.
Skip = 78

Who is the King of Glory? "The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in war/battle." (Psalms 24:8). How does He do it? He does it with the sacrificial lamb. He sacrifices when He wages war.

Nuances of Meaning

: Can also be translated as Hashem has a mouth of volcano or Hashem is war.

: Can also be translated as where is the shame?

: Can also refer to among the people of Israel (see Ezekiel 34's constant reference to the sheep , Israel). : With a connotation of shame it is typically spelled with a vav. The note below will support the exceptional spelling that is sometimes used in the Torah for special meanings. In this case, the removal of the yud may indicate a lack of G-dliness in them.

: From the root of abomination, it can mean also scoffers. It is typically spelled with a yud.

The wicked abomination is to Hashem. Hashem is a volcano of war.
How?
With a sacrifice. How will the sacrifice (of the wicked?) be trapped?

Note the same wording in the Bible for two key terms in the sentence above in one verse in the Bible.

Snared:

First appearance in the Bible:

The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire; thou shalt not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein; for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. (Deuteronomy 7:25)

: In the above verse, the verb is slightly different, but it has the same root and idea.

Don't recall about Newton and him giving a year date, even. Could be. Just don't recall. Anyone else?

The way the globalists are rushing the tyrannical satanic world government, it seems to me it will be a lot sooner. Also . . . given, to my thinking, that at least a person or so alive in 1948 when Israel became an official Nation again . . . would likely be earlier than 2060. But, then, I've considered 2075 to be an outside time boundary. Will see.

Thanks for your kind response. Great to have a wise perspective on these threads.

Here's a summary table from the last section:

Concluding Remarks

What started as an exercise in examining the term war in Ezekiel 40, ended in revealing significant extensions of the eight terms with the shortest skips, and of several other terms as well. The truly sobering fact is that the extensions of those eight terms all focus tightly on the subject of war.

Given the hostilities in the Middle East, these codes may come to have even greater meaning for all of us.

All Scripture references in this article are taken from The Jerusalem Bible as presented in CodeFinder: Millennium Edition.
