Mohammed in the "Gospel" of Barnabas - ZOT for the Theologians

Posted on 07/17/2006 9:05:28 AM PDT by parakletos

The GREAT PROPHET MOHAMMED was mentioned by name in the forgotten gospel of Barnabas, who was one of the disciples of THE GREAT PROPHET JESUS CHRIST.

The gospel is here: www.barnabas.net/

in the aforementioned site, make a search for the word "mohammed".

heres a sample: from part 97

Then said the priest: `How shall the Messiah be called, and what sign shall reveal his coming?'

Jesus answered: `The name of the Messiah is admirable, for God himself gave him the name when he had created his soul, and placed it in a celestial splendour. God said: "Wait Mohammed; for thy sake I will to create paradise, the world, and a great multitude of creatures, whereof I make thee a present, insomuch that whoso bless thee shall be blessed, and whoso shall curse thee shall be accursed. When I shall send thee into the world I shall send thee as my messenger of salvation, and thy word shall be true, insomuch that heaven and earth shall fail, but thy faith shall never fail." Mohammed is his blessed name.'

Then the crowd lifted up their voices, saying: `O God, send us thy messenger: O Mohammed, come quickly for the salvation of the world!'

what do you think?

Yep. With a bit of Roman thrown in but mostly Celtic.

The Romans were leaving, the Saxons were making small incursions and the Celts were mostly leaderless.

We have a 6th century poem that makes reference to him, (maybe!) but rather indirectly.

He charged before three hundred of the finest,
He cut down both centre and wing,
He excelled in the forefront of the noblest host,
He gave gifts of horses from the herd in winter.
He fed black ravens on the rampart of a fortress
Though he was no Arthur.

Arthur was obviously an ideal to which warriors in Wales aspired.

My personal opinion is that it was Christianized about a century or so later. Then in the 10th century it was fit into the tradition of the contemporary Anglo-Saxons kings with crowns and fair maidens and castles.

Have I bored you yet?

No, I'm not bored, that is very interesting!

My personal opinion is that it was Christianized about a century or so later.

Much of Ancient Irish mythology was Christianised, too - the Children of Lir were turned back to humans, and were baptised by St. Patrick before they died, and I think the same is true for Oisin when he returned from Tir na Og. Also, Conor Mac Nessa died on the first Good Friday.

... I am going to demand that all religions produce a book similar to "The Jewish Book of Why" ...

Okay, it looks as though now I'll have to write a book about the Church of Bob. Darn.

Cna you make it easier for me by giving me a list of questions that should be answered?

Hey, Irish! "Conor Mac Nessa died on the first Good Friday." -- That can't be, Ole Buddy! I've seen him posting on the Word-For-The-Day Threads.

Oh, also, Harmless, "...kings with crowns and fair maidens and castles." -- I haven't finished writing this book yet, but it has all these elements, including the fact that the fair maiden is also a "sleeping beauty!"

Yeah, and the good ones are being replaced with asses!
Then we have to support the good ones.

Hi HTB!

I'm good. I haven't had running water in my home since Sunday afternoon, (shortly after I tried to give the dog a bath-maybe that's where I went wrong?), but finally found out where my well is located!

:-)

You can be sure that the dog did it. :)

It is in the emergencies we learn things. For example it took a $400.00 electric bill for me to learn where my meter is.

I now keep a close eye on the electric company!

WITW???

You aren't getting any worse than any of the rest of us Conspiracy that Cares folks. It can be tiring, but I just take a break from Crevo threads when I get too tired of the ad hominems that are substituted for evidence, reasoning and logic.

I broke from those for a couple of months but still enjoyed the rest of FR.

Annoying isn't it!

I would have ignored it but they were ganging up on someone who did not deserve anymore grief so I waded in.

Besides there is nothing like a bare knuckled brawl every now and again. :)
