Raymond worked all his life to promote the missions and died a missionary to North Africa.
Raymond was born at Palma on the island of Mallorca in the Mediterranean Sea. He earned a position in the kings court there. One day a sermon inspired him to dedicate his life to working for the conversion of the Muslims in North Africa. He became a Secular Franciscan and founded a college where missionaries could learn the Arabic they would need in the missions. Retiring to solitude, he spent nine years as a hermit. During that time he wrote on all branches of knowledge, a work which earned him the title "Enlightened Doctor."
Raymond then made many trips through Europe to interest popes, kings and princes in establishing special colleges to prepare future missionaries. He achieved his goal in 1311 when the Council of Vienne ordered the creation of chairs of Hebrew, Arabic and Chaldean at the universities of Bologna, Oxford, Paris and Salamanca. At the age of 79, Raymond went to North Africa in 1314 to be a missionary himself. An angry crowd of Muslims stoned him in the city of Bougie. Genoese merchants took him back to Mallorca where he died. Raymond was beatified in 1514.
Comment:
Quote:Raymond worked most of his life to help spread the gospel. Indifference on the part of some Christian leaders and opposition in North Africa did not turn him from his goal.
Three hundred years later Raymonds work began to have an influence in the Americas. When the Spanish began to spread the gospel in the New World, they set up missionary colleges to aid the work. Blessed Junipero Serra belonged to such a college.
Thomas of Celano wrote of St. Francis: "In vain does the wicked man persecute one striving after virtue, for the more he is buffeted, the more strongly will he triumph. As someone says, indignity strengthens a generous spirit" (I Celano, #11).
Agreeing to let some innocent persons be murdered so that other innocent persons might live makes us doers of evil.

If you read my posts, I said what I did about what we might be able to pass through the people of the USA.
My thinking is the people might go for that, which would save 98% of the kids (750,000 a year).
I don't say stop there, I said from there, the other 2% would have to be fought for a baby at a time.
I don't think this nation will ever vote to force a mother to carry a child from rape, incest or of they will probably die giving birth to it.
I think if we look at the logic of what I wrote here, that is the political steps the especially religious people need to accept as a first stage to stop all abortion.
Like changing the voting habits of a Democrat to a conservative through education, similarly, we have to change the voting culture to want to stop "all" abortion (which in my opinion we will never get, you always will have many not so religious or ethical people in the world).
As you prove, 100% or NOTHING will ALWAYS gain you NOTHING.
I think we need to save the 98% we can first and then go after the remaining 2% one at a time.
I think that is better than being stubborn and having to go after the whole 100% one child at a time IMO.
Right-To-Life from what I've seen have represented the proper belief that there should be NO ABORTION and I find nothing wrong with that in their ethical view.
There needs to be a single focus among the conservative and religious folks to stop the NO ABORTION on the political end until we first accomplish limiting abortions to the rape, incest and health victims.
You really can't bring up NO ABORTIONS to the common American person because they don't believe women should be forced to have babies today.
Granted we can go into a paragraph just about the attitude and facts surrounding the last statement, but the bottom line is we need to unite on the 98% first and then scrap and fight for the remaining ones on the side one at a time.
The overall American People at large are turned right off by the view of NO ABORTIONS EVER. So we can be correct and proud to say that correct Godly view, but we may continue to lose 750,000 a year we could save if we quit the all or nothing scenarios IMO.
which in my opinion we will never get, you always will have many not so religious or ethical people in the world). >>
oh ye have little faith; however, I do agree that we have to make incremental steps to that goal.
Because we are developing a culture if death, IMO we are getting shootings, kids killing kids more and lots of other horrors. >>>
I agree with this and in addition, we as a nation, are also losing God's protection.
We'll take any restriction we can get but we aren't going to deny the truth that every abortion is murder, especially not on your nefarious advice. And could you stop using the fraudulent "we"? You aren't fooling anybody about which side you are really on by merely switching out of the third person.
You really can't bring up NO ABORTIONS to the common American person because they don't believe women should be forced to have babies today.
Then no abortions will be restricted until that changes. This assertion contradicts your previous " IF they went for NO ABORTION except for rape and incest... You could have gotten the American majority to vote that in. ." Shame you can't keep your story straight.
the bottom line is we need to unite on the 98% first and then scrap and fight for the remaining ones on the side one at a time.
There you go with that "we" again. Nice try, but real pro-lifer's aren't going to abandon all their hard-fought progress in the slow fight to change hearts and minds, especially not on the recommendation of the opposition.
So we can be correct and proud to say that correct Godly view, but we may continue to lose 750,000 a year we could save if we quit the all or nothing scenarios IMO.
Nice try, troll. You've been outed as non-prolifer and we know all this "friendly advice" is neither friendly nor wise.
If you want to push no abortion except for rape, incest and health issues of the mother first, that would IMO be possible to pull off.
Like I said earlier, I don't disagree with your views about what abortion is, I just think we will eventually get to the place where most are illegal and we still will have the same battle over a much smaller number.
You'd like for authentic pro-lifers to abandon their principles and all the hard-fought progress in the slow fight to change hearts and minds, wouldn't you? As I've said four times now, National Right-To-Life has been willing to accept any limitation on abortion for over thirty years. No real pro-lifer would deny that any abortion is murder, however. What does that make you?
Like I said earlier, I don't disagree with your views about what abortion is
Like I've said before, I don't believe you have been honest about your true position on legalized abortion. Real pro-lifers don't attack other pro-lifers in the third and second person. You've been outed, and no real pro-lifers are going to take the advice of an deceptive saboteur.
I would like authentic Pro-life folks to go at this in such a way as to save life.
When the issue is out there to stop all abortion except for the few instances, there needs to be support for that by pro-life community as a step toward no abortions.
You use of the third person voice to describe the pro-life side of this polar issue belies your true intentions.
When the issue is out there to stop all abortion except for the few instances, there needs to be support for that by pro-life community as a step toward no abortions
For the fifth time, National Right-To-Life has been willing to accept any limitation on abortion for over thirty years. We will not, however, abandon our principles on the recommendation of our opposition. Surely you people can do better than that.
Faith-sharing bump.
We should all rejoice that the number of abortions performed in the US is continuing its steady drop. Which means that the efforts of the pro-life movement to educate Americans has borne fruit.
