Prayer for the Election of a Pope - Lord God, you are our eternal shepherd and guide. In your mercy grant your Church a shepherd who will walk in your ways and whose watchful care will bring us your blessing. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Collect, Mass for the Election of a Pope, Roman Missal)

Let's see, John Paul The Great ascended to the Chair of Peter in 1978. That made me a whopping three years old. :) Young'n! :) I was 8 years old when JPII ascended to the title of Pope.

I was 7.

My gut tells me the last ballot of Wednesday or first ballot of Thursday, but hey, who knows?

What's today? Monday?
It was 8 ballots for JPII.
Hmmmmm. I hate guessing.
I am leaning toward thinking it'll be ballot #3, maybe #2.

But, geez, after listening to his two homilies, and seeing how well he handled the meetings last week, wouldn't there be 77 cardinals who see in front of them the next Pope.

Based on a couple of homilies? Many of these cardinals have had direct dealings with Ratzinger, which is why I don't think he'll be selected.

However, one of his guys very well could be elected.

Thanks,Salvatin for this thread. You sure are brave! I say that becauses there are a number of anti-Catholic posters on FR,sad to say. I'll try and respond as a good Catholic when provoked! Again, I say, I'll try.LOL!

I suggest we not respond to any anti-Catholic poster. At all. All they want is a fight. Let's not give it to them.

"Man, the Ukranian cardinal's robes are way cooler than our Latin rite regalia. He looks like a Jedi Knight ready to do battle against the Evil One."

LOL..he certainly stands out.

No. I think being "open to God" is a meaningless phrase. I am not impressed by a cardinal, a man who wears red symbolizing his willingness to die for Our Lord and His Church speaking in new age wishy washy language.

I'd rather cardinals spoke like this:

But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews indeed a stumblingblock, and unto the Gentiles foolishness: But unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:23-25

But that's me. ;-)

General view shows the special 'pro eligendo summo pontifice ' (to elect Supreme Pontiff) mass presided over by German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger at St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City.

EWTN didn't have a "Live from the Vatican" segment at 7 PM Rome time as scheduled, and there was no smoke, so I'm guessing that means the cardinal-electors decided to put off any balloting until tomorrow.
