New Vatican Document to Eliminate 1961 Papal Ban on Ordaining Homosexuals
Catholic Family News [not posted yet on their website] | Feb 2005 | Robert L. Mauro

Posted on 02/21/2005 10:06:11 AM PST by donbosco74

During the height of the U.S. homosexual priest sex abuse scandal several years ago, Catholic News Service writer John Thavis revealed the largely unknown fact that in 1961 Pope John XXIII had approved in writing a ban on homosexual ordinations to the priesthood.

Thavis said he was told the ban contained in this 1961 document is still in effect. The document was entiltled "Careful Selection and Training of Candidates for the States of Perfection and Sacred Orders", published by the Vatican's Sacred Congregation for Religious. At the time of its publication, the document was referred to by the Sacred Congregation for Religious as "a matter of public law". The ban, as published in The Canon Law Digest, Vol.5, 1963, Bruce Publishing Co., Milwaukee, stated:

"Advancement to religious vows and ordinations should be barred to those who are afflicted with evil tendencies to homosexuality or pederasty, since for them the common life and priestly ministry would constitute serious dangers..." (See also CFN Jn 2002).

In the December 17, 2004 edition of the Los Angeles Archdiocesan publication, the Tidings, the same John Thavis revealed, in effect, that a recent Church effort to keep and enforce the 1961 Papal ban had been rejected, and that a revised Vatican draft document, due for release by early fall, 2005, would in effect allow homosexuals to be ordained as Catholic priests.

Homosexual Victory Imminent?

Unless the revised Vatican draft document is rejected by Pope John Paul II and other Church leaders before its early fall release, it will give a great victory to the strong pro-homosexual faction inside the Cahtholic Church and to the homosexual movement wouldwide. The Catholic Church's apparent "approval" of homosexual priests will create great pressure on other religions to weaken their opposition to ordaining homosexual pastors. It will give the homosexual lifestyle the apparent seal of approval of the Catholic Church, despite any staement to the contrary...

Some Bishops Opposed Banning Homosexuals

In his April 18, 2003 article, Allen [John Allen, Jr., "All The Pope's Men" author and NCR writer] wrote: "A source close to the drafting process told NCR that the new document regarding seminaries (1961) was 'in deep trouble' in part because some bishops, including some Americans, have raised objections." This source told Allen: "They're saying they don't want to drive the problem underground and make being gay a clandestine thing in the priesthood... They feel it's better to have it out in the open..."

In other words, Allen was saying that some Bishops, including some Americans, approve of openly homosexual men in the priesthood. The view of these bishops has prevailed in the most recent draft document, which will soon open the Catholic priesthood to homosexual men including openly homosexual men, unless Catholics and others protest to Pope john Paul II, College of Cardinals members and other bishops around the world, and urge others to protest...

Proposed Letter to the Pope

Pope John Paul II Apostolic Palace 00120 Vatican City State, Europe

Re: Enforce 1961 Papal Ban against admitting homosexuals to priesthood and religious life.

Your Holiness:

I strongly oppose a new Vatican draft allowing homosexual ordinations scheduled for early fall, 2005. The "closed-door" April 2-5, 2003 symposium on the acceptance of homosexuals to the priesthood and religious life was an outrageous, one-sided, pro-homosexual farce.

I strongly urge you to reject this revised Vatican draft admitting homosexuals to ordination. I stongly urge you to support and renew explicilty the ban on all homosexual ordinations approved by Pope John XXIII on January 23, 1961.

I will not make financial contributions to any diocesan institution whatsoever if the Vatican allows homosexuals to be ordained.

The militant homosexual faction inside the Church is destroying the Church. I urge you to stop this destruction! Please affirm the 1961 ban on homosexual ordinations by your predecessor Pope John XXIII.

Thank you and God Bless you.

Sincerely, Name, address

Also Send to: Papal Secretary Stanislaw Dziwisz Apostolic Palace, 00120 Vatican City State, Europe

and to: Josepth Cardinal Ratzinger Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith Piazza del S. Uffizio 11 00193 Rome, Italy

It has been a matter of grave concern for decades among Los Angeles area Catholics that the traditional norms of qualification to seminary studies have been not only ignored but turned upside down. Under Mahony, a seminarian found to be "unsensitive to the needs of the gay community" can be expelled, but probably for some other reason. But in order to get into a seminary in the first place a young man must exhibit some kind of homosexual tendencies or sentiments. This diabolical disorientation has so thoroughly corrupted the seminaries of this area that all but one have closed down, and it is a crying shame. Of the rumored 500 cases of sexual molestation and pederasty here, Mahony has somehow managed to keep ALL OF THEM out of the courts.

Are you sure? It's true what you wrote about Mahoney, but does the Church truly want to invite the kind of schism that just this sort of action provoked in the worldwide Anglican Church?

"...does the Church truly want to invite the kind of schism that just this sort of action provoked in the worldwide Anglican Church?"

But, you see, I think they think they'll manage it, because everybody is supposed to be celibate too! Not like the Anglican/Episcopals who actually get married, or "whatever". Now, obviously this is not working already, but since when is that a good reason not to try a plan over, and over, and over?

Married Anglican priests who convert to Catholicism and who may become Catholic priests are not required to be celibate.

Sadly, I think it's true - I've read this elsewhere in the last couple of weeks.

The theory is that since priests are supposed to be celibate, it doesn't matter what their inclination is. Personally, I think it does matter - there have probably been homosexuals throughout the history of the Church, but they all knew this was not the ideal. Now they're being told it's all cool and groovy, they just have to stay away from the teenage boys. Otherwise, they're fine.

Those Anglicans are going to be the "exception that makes the rule" and the rule will be "Since celibacy is required, sexual orientation is moot."

Jocon307 nailed it.

It's over. The conciliar Church is descending into all out apostasy.

If the remaining Catholic clerics in Rome wish to save the Roman Rite they should immediately grant celebrants to all loyal diocesan and validly ordained independent priests. Do a run around the corrupt diocesan establishments. Acknowledge Quo Primum is still in effect. Regularize with SSPX.

AmChurch is in schism as are the Swiss and Germans. Thankfully the SSPX will retake France in a few years.

All based upon news reports from a two-year-old story from John Allen, who writes for National Catholic Distorter???

Are you people crazy? This is not journalism. This is rubbish. There is no such plan in the works, and the Vatican KNOWS if they were to do this (which there is NO EVIDENCE OF), this would lead to an exodus, just like the Anglicans are experiencing.

The fact that many of Amchurch's bishops and priests are sodomites does not mean the Church approves it.

This is wishful thinking on the part of the lavender mafia.

You obviously typed this snippet. I read this last week in the CFN, and it was very long. I went looking for it online, but couldn't find it.

It is a compelling article and raises the warning flags we have gotten so used to lately. But I'll tell you the truth, I don't fully understand what it's all about.

I know what the author is trying to alert us to, but even he writes that in the new document we are told that homosexuals are not to be admitted to seminary or be ordained.

Maybe I missed it in the article, because it is so long, but what exactly are the loopholes that would permit homosexuals to come pouring into the Church legally, like Mexicans crossing the border?

Like the Mexicans, the homosexuals don't need an engraved invitation, both are coming in at will anyway.

I would hate to write those letters to the Pope, et al, unless I understand precisely where the danger is coming from in the new document.

I have already written on this in another thread, and my conclusion was that the dangers were in the nuanced loopholes.

PLEASE NOTE: The term "homosexual," as used here, refers to those with homophillic tendencies. The Catholic Church is NOT about to formally approve of any sexual relationships outside of marriage

Just so as not to confuse people who may be scandalized by misunderstanding the article.

The Anglican church schism was caused by the approval of buggery. This, if true, would merely be about accepting celebate homophiles into the priesthood. But I doubt it is true. The problem is that the American church has been ordaining known homophiles for a long, long time.

"AmChurch is in schism as are the Swiss and Germans."

DUH !

(friendly sarcasm off) There are some who think that the phenomenom of gay priests is somehow in the minority.......or that just beacuse a lot of American Bishops are gay does not mean that the "higher ups approve of this".

To anyone who in good faith holds this opinion I would say: kindly remove your head from your alimentary canal.

The enemy is not at the gate. The enemy is not inside the gate. The enemy has not infiltrated. These three concepts are not merely old news, they in no way accurately describe the reality of.......reality.

The reality is that the enemy has facilitated a throrough, top to bottom hostile corporate takover. The own the organization; they run all the key levers of power. They call all of the shots.........sign the paychecks, have the deeds to the property......and have changed the locks on the doors. And they are stealing the family silver.

All too many Catholics - those who still attend mass at the local NO church - are asleep. They think, in some dreamlike state, that all is well, that nothing has changes - or that what has changed is necessary and good. They trust "Father" with teaching the faith, administering the sacraments, handling the money, caring for they young.

And they will keep doing so. The most amazing thing is that they will, in some cases, keep supporting "Father" (or the Bishop)even after he has looted the parish treasury, and is caught in bed with a 13 year old boy!

Am I being extreme? No. What I earnestly desire for all Catholics is for them to understand what is the truth, and then to act in a positive and coherant manner to "strengthen what remains".

New Vatican Document to Eliminate 1961 Papal Ban on Ordaining Homosexuals

This is but reaction to just more propaganda of wishful thinking being promulgated by the dissenters that wish this would be so. There are recent Magisterial documents that clearly state that the homosexual condition is disordered regardless of activity -as such, ordination is not an option EVEN if the dissenting Bishops wish it was...
