It has been a matter of grave concern for decades among Los Angeles area Catholics that the traditional norms of qualification to seminary studies have been not only ignored but turned upside down. Under Mahony, a seminarian found to be "unsensitive to the needs of the gay community" can be expelled, but probably for some other reason. But in order to get into a seminary in the first place a young man must exhibit some kind of homosexual tendencies or sentiments. This diabolical disorientation has so thoroughly corrupted the seminaries of this area that all but one have closed down, and it is a crying shame. Of the rumored 500 cases of sexual molestation and pederasty here, Mahony has somehow managed to keep ALL OF THEM out of the courts.

Are you sure? It's true what you wrote about Mahoney, but does the Church truly want to invite the kind of schism that just this sort of action provoked in the worldwide Anglican Church?

It's over. The conciliar Church is descending into all out apostasy.

If the remaining Catholic clerics in Rome wish to save the Roman Rite they should immediately grant celebrants to all loyal diocesan and validly ordained independent priests. Do a run around the corrupt diocesan establishments. Acknowledge Quo Primum is still in effect. Regularize with SSPX.

AmChurch is in schism as are the Swiss and Germans. Thankfully the SSPX will retake France in a few years.

All based upon news reports from a two-year-old story from John Allen, who writes for National Catholic Distorter???

Are you people crazy? This is not journalism. This is rubbish. There is no such plan in the works, and the Vatican KNOWS if they were to do this (which there is NO EVIDENCE OF), this would lead to an exodus, just like the Anglicans are experiencing.

The fact that many of Amchurch's bishops and priests are sodomites does not mean the Church approves it.

This is wishful thinking on the part of the lavender mafia.

You obviously typed this snippet. I read this last week in the CFN, and it was very long. I went looking for it online, but couldn't find it.

It is a compelling article and raises the warning flags we have gotten so used to lately. But I'll tell you the truth, I don't fully understand what it's all about.

I know what the author is trying to alert us to, but even he writes that in the new document we are told that homosexuals are not to be admitted to seminary or be ordained.

Maybe I missed it in the article, because it is so long, but what exactly are the loopholes that would permit homosexuals to come pouring into the Church legally, like Mexicans crossing the border?

Like the Mexicans, the homosexuals don't need an engraved invitation, both are coming in at will anyway.

I would hate to write those letters to the Pope, et al, unless I understand precisely where the danger is coming from in the new document.

I have already written on this in another thread, and my conclusion was that the dangers were in the nuanced loopholes.

PLEASE NOTE: The term "homosexual," as used here, refers to those with homophillic tendencies. The Catholic Church is NOT about to formally approve of any sexual relationships outside of marriage

Just so as not to confuse people who may be scandalized by misunderstanding the article.

New Vatican Document to Eliminate 1961 Papal Ban on Ordaining Homosexuals

This is but reaction to just more propaganda of wishful thinking being promulgated by the dissenters that wish this would be so. There are recent Magisterial documents that clearly state that the homosexual condition is disordered regardless of activity -as such, ordination is not an option EVEN if the dissenting Bishops wish it was...

It seems to me that the Church in the USA has been ignoring the edict for a long time anyway. If anything, the current problems are each very good examples of why this ban should be vigorously enforced rather than eliminated.

Clear Vatican statement: "a person who is homosexual or has homosexual tendencies is not, therefore, suitable to receive the sacrament of sacred orders."

New Vatican Document on Homosexuality and the Priesthood Coming Before Fall 2005

http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2004/dec/04121307.html

VATICAN CITY, December 13, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - John Thavis, the Vatican correspondent for the Catholic News Service, an agency of the US Bishops Conference, reports that the Vatican will soon publish a document concerning homosexuality and the priesthood. The report notes that Vatican officials are preparing an inspection (or visitation) of US seminaries to commence in the Fall of 2005 and the document is expected prior to the visitation.

Bishop John C. Nienstedt of New Ulm, Minn., chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on Priestly Formation, said in an interview in Rome, "I think they intend to have it out by the time the visitation begins."

The Vatican has confirmed several times that men with homosexual sexual orientations should not be ordained. The December 2002 bulletin of the Vatican's Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments contained a letter signed by Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez, who has since retired as the head of the Congregation, which said ordaining such men would be imprudent and "very risky."

A prominent Vatican document dealing with the issue was released as early as 1961. The 1961 document from the Sacred Congregation for Religious prohibits the admission of homosexuals to the diocesan priesthood and religious orders. The document states: "Those affected by the perverse inclination to homosexuality or pederasty should be excluded from religious vows and ordination," because priestly ministry would place such persons in "grave danger".

The document is being prepared by the Congregation for Catholic Education in consultation with several other Vatican agencies, including the doctrinal congregation. In a report earlier this year, the education congregation described it as an "instruction on the criteria and norms for the discernment in questions regarding homosexuality in view of the admission of candidates to the seminary and to sacred orders."

Commenting on the coming document which has been more than five years in the making, Bishop Nienstedt said, ""I think it's going to be a balanced document, because the whole question of homosexuality not only has psychological dimensions but also has varying degrees of a person acting out or not acting out." He added, "So the whole question has to be nuanced considerably: 'What is homosexuality?' 'What are the homosexual attractions?' and that sort of thing. I think this document will be helpful because it is going to address those questions."

Seminarians must be capable of celibate life, Pope says ...

"The ordination of homosexual men, or men with homosexual tendencies, to the diaconate or priesthood is absolutely inadvisable and imprudent, and from a pastoral perspective it is very risky," wrote Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez in May 2002. The Chilean cardinal was, at the time, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, which supervises priestly ordination. Now the subject is in the hands of the Congregation for Catholic Education, which is responsible for the training of candidates for ordination.
