The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Circles within circles. Outside the circle, encompassing all, is God's will, endless.

I, for all intents, agree that all which is done is that which, will, ultimately, fulfill the will of God.

But is this the same as saying that all that is done is the will of God ?

If all that is done is the will of God, ... what cause would there be for God to ever be displeased ?

We'll both listen to each other. How's that?

I'll listen, but I'm not going to change. I have the complete and total truth.

The one Jews look for as the messiah will be perfectly obedient to God. I don't think the "anti-christ" of the Christian scriptures could fit this bill.

Don't you believe that Jesus will fulfil the unfulfilled messianic prophecies when he returns? Based on what you are saying, is it possible that Christians might mistakenly think that he is the "anti-christ"?

But I DID expect you to equate the entire human race with your daughter, and God with you.

I've come to expect the massive limitations you put on God.

Man/woman as the disobediant child -- who eventually grows up, all on her own, to work her salvation.

I used to believe like you, Dave. Then I went back to the Bible and found out that God is actually more than my father, your father, Santa Claus, Uncle Sam or Mother Earth.

All the words are there in front of you. I wish you God's guidance in reading them.

Gotta go.

I believe that Jesus is alive, too.

Yeah but his response was related to Jesus dieing on the cross and arising. Want to talk to JJ? :')

God, the parent, is but a small part of God, the Creator. But it's all you seem to want to see.

From there, it's just a short hop to God, the Buddy; God, the penpal; and God, the Smurf.

You mean like "Abba"? Which is "Papa" or "Daddy"?

"I AM WHAT AM."

I really hate to tell you this knowing how much you think of your Scripture knowledge.....

But that's Popeye the Sailor-Man (unless you are quoting from "The Bible in Basic English" which is a somewhat "less-scholarly" version than one might expect. What's your doctorate in?

That's certainly an interesting question. But because we can't answer it fully, doesn't mean the logic we used to get to that point is faulty.

God is always displeased by vanity, sin, corruption, disobediance, etc.

But like viruses, He created them, and He uses them to further His glory.

An amazing plan, don't you think?

I've been confusing myself with God around here for a long time. LOL

Seriously, this is the relationship and model that God offers us. Remember, God could have appeard Incarnate any way He wanted, or even brought about our salvation some other way. But He wanted to emphasize that Father/Son relationship.

Man/woman as the disobediant child -- who eventually grows up, all on her own, to work her salvation.

Again, you are off base. the entire point of a loving parent is that you rchild does not grow up "all on her own." What she will take out into the world is a byproduct of what I put into my relationship with her. That's the model of grace. She will be me and my wife and the others who touch her.

Gotta go.

Have a blessed Easter.

That statement is why there's very little change in here. Oh well. Sounds like a potential Mexican standoff. :-) Remember the Alamo. :-)

You think perhaps God was speaking figuratively when He instituted circumcision? Or is it that "God said so" isn't good enough for you?

Do you consider yourself a Christian? Do you believe it is God's Law that all males be circumcised?

Do you believe in slavery? Or is it that "God said so" isn't good enough for you?

Genesis 17:
[12] He that is eight days old among you shall be circumcised; every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house, or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring,
[13] both he that is born in your house and he that is bought with your money, shall be circumcised. So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant.

Yes, your daughter will be part of everything you and your wife have given her. But she is EVERYTHING IN TOTAL that God has made her, as are my sons.

And this is a wonderfully comforting thought. God keeps the time of every beat of their hearts, and nothing can happen to any of them that is not His will.

Now at the same time, I believe God wills me to be the most restrictive, powerful, demanding parent my kids have ever encountered, and that's just their tough luck. 8~)

But God is more than you or me.

Thank you. You have a wonderful Easter, too.

I think that it is unlikely and unscriptural that God created anything that, in and of itself, ... displeases Him.

Did He not pronounce the entire creation good ?

Did not God say that He neither sins nor tempts man to sin ?

I believe that it is much more likely that God created and gifted man with free-will, ... which pleases Him.

The purposed effect of so gifting man would be to enable man to freely choose Him ... which pleases Him.

However, the side-effects of this gifting are those things which displease Him ... disobedience, vanity, pride, sin, corruption, etc.

Furthering His glory is not God's only purpose.

He also chooses to love ... us ... and desires that we love Him ... in return.

That's what's really amazing.

No. But I believe it was.

Do you believe in slavery?

The existence of slavery? Sure.

Or is it that "God said so" isn't good enough for you?

God commanded slavery?

Seriously. I'm well aware that there are OT verses that I don't think "fit" without excessive "interpretation" (I'm shocked that an old guy like you didn't jump right to the she-bears). But were any of them the covenany sign of God's family?

Or do you take anythign in Scripture that you disagree with and make it symbolic (like the Eucharist)?

So all of a sudden all on your own you became a calvivist just by reading the Bible, just like they don't have to teach those folks how to speak in tongues? LOL yeah right

Not exactly. When I realized that the UMC was an apostate church, I investigated other denominations. This is when I learned about Reformed Theology.

It was then I saw all those passages that contained words like predestined, foreknew, chosen, the elect, "I know my sheep and they know my name", and dozens of others. As a Methodist, all Bible studies I had ever participated in skipped over these "difficult verses".

If you have bought into Arminianism, that explaines how you ended up with that "really nice piece of land" you want to sell me. :-)
