The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

It was finished for those that would repent and believe .. there was no sacrifice for the sin of those that did not repent and believe.

I am consistent if you read with understanding. If the atonement was for all man kind ..there would be no need for the gospel to be preached . no need for a church ...All would be saved

What if you think the rapture about to happen and you need instructions and the power down?

I'll just sing a hymn.

A----- sing to Jesus!
His the Sceptre, His the Throne
A----- His the triumph
His the victory alone
Hark! the sounds of peaceful Zion
Thunder like a mighty flood
Jesus out of every nation has redeemed us by His Blood

I did look it up...please read it

So you're interpretation rests on definition 8b??? At the exclusion of 5 & 6? That's interesting... and convenient. Definition six seems to fit the context quite a bit better.

Do you have a passage for the ticket idea?

Um yeah?! John 3:16.

For God so loved (big set) the (whole) world that whoever believes in Him (smaller subset) shall not perish.

Sure looks like "tickets purchased for the masses - redeemed by just a few"

It was the atonement ...now if it was complete as you interpret complete , then we have no need for missionaries or preaching the Gospel because all mankind is saved.

Really? But I thought you said it was "accepted" at the resurrection? Wouldn't that make Jesus a liar for calling it completed three days early?

I am not discussing Calvinism here ...so stop being so defensive

The atonement was not general , it was specific for those that would come .

And you think you're not "discussing Calvinism here"???

"You chose to ignore them, you can find them on your own. Your silence speaks volumes though. LOL"

Its post #2049 that ET was referring. ET he was being serious, why are you acting so childish? A little grace goes a long way.

It was finished for those that would repent and believe

Then why the preachign and teaching? Is it finished or not? Do people have to accept it?

The Republican National Committee just announced their official 2004 Get Out The Vote slogan and it has some Presbyterians a bit miffed. It's:
"Be a Calvinist – Show up for the Election."

And the first time was at 1799. Take a good look at the posts surround that second one. 2049. ksen posted prior to it and after it. Even replying to the one just before it. He chose to ignore it.

"I think I'll take door number three Alex"

And I'll happily call that the "Catholic" option just like the Prodigal Son story.

I think I saw that song in the last Left Behind series. I want to thank yalls buddy Mel by the way. I try to practice what I preach and I couldn't enjoy it like the others. The "might have (will) happened kept popping up. Real downer :')

"What might that be? "

I dont know. Each ones reward will be based on his/her works. This is their reward once they get to heaven. Heaven is not the reward but is a result of the free gift to all those who believe in Jesus.

"Do you believe Jesus to be a false prophet?"

Doesn't matter.

Doesn't matter??? You have been quoting him to defend your points. You have been saying that He is a Prophet of God. If He is not, then why do you keep using Him to back up your claims on the Kingdom of God?

Is Jesus a false prophet????

A little grace goes a long way.

Did you know that one of the definitions of grace is 5. a delay granted for payment of an obligation

Did you know that? Interesting huh? New World Dictionary

That is why people need to trust YHWH and YHWH alone. Others can start out good and go bad, or perhaps start out bad and stay bad. One just never knows.

Isaiah 43:11 -- I, even I, am YHWH; and beside Me there is no saviour.

Psalm 146:3 - Put not your trust in Princes, nor in the Son of Man, in whom there is no help.

What is the prize that Paul is talking about here (from my original post)
1 Corinthians 9 (NLT)

24 Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win.

25 All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.

26 So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches.[1]

27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
Paul, in this same chapter, says that his rewared is this ...
1 Corinthians 9:18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

Isaiah 42
8 I am YHWH, that is My name; and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.

Isaiah 59:20 - And a redeemer will come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith YHWH.

You see YHWH as a liar, correct?

I wonder how many devout christians have wondered why their prayers and pleas to Yehoshua so save their infant children from (physical) death... failed, or the children that have prayed for a parent to be spared (physical) death... were let down, felt they'd been lied to.
Proverbs 10:24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
Well it appears that the righteous have the same promise.

Have all of your prayers been answered ?

Ecumenical Spirit

The Pope met with his Cardinals to discuss a proposal from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel.
"Your Holiness" said one of the Cardinals, "Mr. Sharon wants to challenge you to a game of golf to show the friendship and ecumenical spirit shared by the Jewish and Catholic faiths."
The Pope thought it was a good idea, but he had never held a golf club in his hand. "Have we not," he asked "a Cardinal who can represent me against the leader of Israel?"
"None that plays golf very well," a Cardinal said.
"But," he added, "there is a man named Jack Nicklaus, an American golfer who is a devout catholic. We can offer to make him a Cardinal; then ask him to play Prime Minister Sharon as your personal representative. In addition to showing our spirit of cooperation, we'll also win the match."
Everyone agreed it was a good idea. The call was made. Of course, Nicklaus was honored and agreed to play.
The day after the match, Nicklaus reported to the Vatican to inform the Pope of the result. "I have some good news and some bad news, Your Holiness," said the world-class golfer.
"Tell me the good news first, Cardinal Nicklaus," said the Pope.
"Well, Your Holiness, I don't like to brag, but even though I've played some pretty terrific rounds of golf in my life, this was the best I have ever played, by far. I must have been inspired from above. My drives were long and true, my irons were accurate and purposeful and my putting was perfect.
With all due respect, my play was truly miraculous."
"There's bad news?" the Pope asked.
Nicklaus sighed. "I lost to Rabbi Tiger Woods by three strokes."
