The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

No we can't. I used to like you until now. Stop making stuff up about me. God knows how I feel about his word and how fast a pace I can go without losing concentration. He also knows how I witness. As long as He is ok with me, you and your buddies can go pound sand. I don't care what yall think anymore.

I know you said Gods word is boring to you ...

Taking to lying are ya, you had seemed to found your stride a while back, you were dead on on what you believed and pounding home your message with out the slander and mean streak and I agreed with most of what you said and believed except the tulip, now you have fallen back into your old ways and frankly no body cares what you have to say as long as your acting this way, do you wittiness like this in real life? I doubt it. I'm really disappointed in you.

I am totally flummoxed. Not following the whole thread but the last couple posts are baffling. Quoting Ace Ventura was a bad idea.

I believe that his downward spiral could have been stopped if y'all were not so busy friendshipping and missing the guy getting led down the legalistic path to perdition.

This is not calvinist teachings, if Steven was one of the elect he could not be led anywhere but to God. How do you justify a statement like this? I really think you should take another good hard look at calvinisim, don't let the swarm influence you do this on your own, I know your story and you just don't fit with these folks.

Difficult to tell with all the dripping sarcasm cluttering up your posts.

And this is irony? I forget my literary debating device categories.

Yeah, I'll give it a go next year. I don't follow basketball, professional or college, so I'll be picking blind. But that's never stopped me before. ;^)

Picking blind is not all bad. My lil sis who made a brief appearance on the thread picked blind and won $95 in a pool. She picked the Final Four and the winners of both semifinal games as well as the championship. I think in the NCAA tournament that knowledge of the game is precious little advantage. It's all luck.

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me twice, shame on me.

Snerkel offers you excellent advice, Mack. Don't let them fool you again into thinking they care. All I see is a bunch of people coming to gloat over someone leaving his faith. Not sure why, but it seems to be the case. It's really kind of puzzling.

Using the same methods used to deconstruct Christianity, he can deconstruct Judaism.

A very valid point. One which excapes some. But we all have our blind spots.

It's always good to keep this in mind:

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Gal 5:23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

And conversely, the evidence that one is not being fruitful is:

Gal 5:19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
Gal 5:21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Jam 3:17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.
Jam 3:18 And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Do not confuse these fruits of the spirit with a willingness to compromise belief, or as a sign that one is weak in faith. Indeed it seems to be the exact opposite.

Oh, I never made it to the Christian bookstore but I bought a KJ study bible( Thomas Nelson). I couldn't get past the first vs in Matthew. I read the vs , then the cross references, checked out the superior letters, superior number and the annotations. Tired by then. I stopped and just read the chapter and came back and looked at the study guide all together. One vs at a x wasn't cutting it. I know now how the preacher can do an entire sermon on one verse:') Interesting Greek and Hebrew stuff though.

you show me the scripture that says God will use your walk will bring anyone to a saving knowledge of Christ

1 Peter 2:12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

1 Peter 3:1   Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2  While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

And a negative example:
1 Corinthians 10:31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God--

followed by an interesting positive....

33 even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved. 11:1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Matt. 9:10ff While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?" 12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Seeing that one does not want to waste his time reading "irrelevant " scripture,"

Are you asserting that all Scripture is relevant to every situation? I know you're not. You needn't respond to this point.

Is the measure of any religious activity indicated solely by the number of converts it generates?

I'm not sure Jesus initial efforts would be viewed too favorably by the church growth experts.
