The Holy Season of Lent -- The Stations of the Cross

[Salvation]

Opening Prayer

Mary, my Mother, you were the first to live the Way of the Cross.
You felt every pain and every humiliation. You were unafraid of the
ridicule heaped upon you by the crowds. Your eyes were ever on Jesus
and His Pain. Is that the secret of your miraculous strength? How did your
loving heart bear such a burden and such a weight? As you watched Him
stumble and fall, were you tortured by the memory of all the yesterdays-
His birth, His hidden life and His ministry?

You were so desirous of everyone loving Him. What a heartache it was
to see so many hate Him - hate with a diabolical fury. Take my hand as I
make this Way of the Cross. Inspire me with those thoughts that will make
me realize how much He loves me. Give me light to apply each station to my
daily life and to remember my neighbor's needs in this Way of the Pain.

Obtain for me the grace to understand the mystery, the wisdom
and the Divine love as I go from scene to scene. Grant that my heart, like
yours, may be pierced through by the sight of His sorrow and the misery and
that I may determine never to offend Him again. What a price He paid to
cover my sins, to open the gates of heaven for me and to fill my soul with His
own Spirit . Sweet Mother, let us travel this way together and grant that the
love in my poor heart may give you some slight consolation.

Amen.

Thanks for posting this. I'm looking forward to walking through the stations this year. We recently completed and moved into our new parish building and the stations are sketches from scenes from The Passion. They were supposed to be paintings but the sketches were so beautiful that we decided to go with those instead.

I was very shocked and pleased tonight at the stations. The church was about 2/3 full! I have never seen that much participation. Of course there were the normal blue-hairs, but, thanks to God, there were a lot of families there, as well (that was the most surprising part to me)

I don't know for sure what to attribute this to, but I am very thankful. It makes me quite hopeful for the Church.

Noticed today how many more people went to 12:15 Mass. A fair number showed up for Stations.

Have borrowed the book translated and compiled by my pastor and am hand transcribing the Stations, according to the Antiochene-Syriac Maronite Church. Hope to post them later this evening or tomorrow. Please drop in and post a comment. Thanks.

Al, those sketches of The Stations are beautiful!

You might be interested in the new CDROM that has come out, called The Passion Explained

from Crux Fidelis. It contains the meditations (among many other things) from St. Alphonsus Liguori on The Stations of the Cross, and has over 200 images from "The Passion of The Christ"...many of those in which are depicted in the sketches at your Church.

I'm sure you'll enjoy, and find it a very prayerful compliment to your Lenten walk through The Stations. I highly recommend everyone getting it!
