Scientific Evience against Mormonism

New Film Reveals Evidence Against Mormons' Historical Account

By Jenni Parker and Chad Groening December 3, 2003

(AgapePress) - A Utah-based Christian ministry is trying to make the public aware of new DNA research that could spell disaster for the Mormon Church.

Since its founding in the 1820s by Joseph Smith, the Mormon Church, now known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS), has claimed that its primary sacred text, the Book of Mormon, is a historical account of a group of Israelites who emigrated to the New World in about 600 B.C. The church claims that modern American Indians are descended from some of these ancient Israelite progenitors (Laman and Lemuel). LDS members claim that the prophet Mormon, who they believe originally compiled the history that became the Book of Mormon, also had Hebrew roots, supposedly being descended from an ancient Israelite named Nephi. According to LDS lore, Mormon's son Moroni hid metal plates engraved with his father's record of the "Nephites" and the "Lamanites" in the side of a hill, where Joseph Smith found them with the divine assistance of the angel Moroni and translated them into English.

But now, a new video has documented several DNA studies refuting the purported Hebrew origins of the early inhabitants of the American continent.

The video was produced by Living Hope Ministries http://www.livinghopeministries.info the media production arm of Living Hope Christian Fellowship, a small, evangelical non-denominational congregation located in Brigham City, a predominantly LDS community in northern Utah. Living Hope's pastor, Joel Kramer, produced the film titled DNA vs. the Book of Mormon >, which reveals among other evidence, the testimony of molecular anthropologists and other scientific experts asserting that DNA conclusively proves American Indians are not of Israelite ancestry.

Whiner,

You lack the intelligence, social awareness and fortitude to discuss person to person your concerns. I understand Cowardice is a desired trait for the Mormon priesthood holder but really, you take the trait a bit too far, but are given high marks for sniveling like a baby. Do you offer anything but pallatives and stolen verses? Oh, the Burning bosom thingie is an artificially derived emotional response to a piece of media. Same concept as a Hallmark ad but the Hallmark ads are far better written and the products infinitely more useful and relevant than the stale fruit of Mormonism. You mean Natural Woman as an insult. It is a compliment and a state preferrable to Whited Sepulchure sustained by gossip, manipulation and Prozac aka a Relief Society "Sister"

Somebody needs to read my #49 again.

That somebody knows I have posted to her person to person when she was in a better frame of mind, but when her depravity is showing so prominently, to the point that I wonder if the adversary is typing at her keyboard, that somebody needs to read my #49 again.

"Natural-man/natural-woman behavior" is not an insult, nor is it name-calling, as another poster claims. It is a reference to unregenerate behavior, the fruit Jesus was talking about.

Forsake all unrighteousness, come unto Christ, learn of Him, and be born again. His arm is stretched out still.

It happens again and again. The saints post, and they of natural-man behavior come out of the woodwork with their false accusations.

Odd, that.

A Christian posted, and you came out and said opponents of your soul-destroying heresy "appear to be hoping that no one will look at both 'sides' before jumping to the conclusion our critics seem to want them to jump to".

Hey, you're right. A saint posted, and a natural man came out of the woodwork with a false accusation.

Is your god the most high god, or has he got other gods above him? Remember, no one ever repealed the law of non-contradiction.

Christianity is based on reason and fact. That is how true biblical faith is defined regardless of the many people who practice "blind faith."

Traditions, Testing All Things and the Truth
[excerpted from http://www.geocities.com/darrickdean/passage.html#e1]

Perhaps we should remember the biblical mandate "Test everything. Hold on to the good" (1 Thes. 5:21). Lamentations 3:40 and 2 Cor. 13:5 reiterate this mandate. We are also warned about being taken in by deceitful teachings (1 John 4:1), human traditions (Colossians 2:8, Isaiah 29:13), emotions (Proverbs 28:26) and believing in myths (1 Timothy 1:4, 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Titus 1:14). Most of the Book of Proverbs implores readers to search out wisdom. Also, the modern scientific method, another core of critical thought, can trace its roots in biblical study.

Peter also implores us to be able to give reason for what we believe (1 Peter 3:15). This is the basis for biblical faith as opposed to blind faith. In other words, our faith, Christianity, is to be based on reality, facts and reason. We take a “leap of faith” with our heart first, but solidify it with our mind (Matthew 22:37-39, Romans 12:1-2). According to 1 Peter 3:15, it isn't good enough to say "I believe because someone told me so." You must know why it is so. This also tells us that the mind, knowledge and intellectualism is a vital and foundational part of Christianity.

To ignore these mandates is to invite aberrant theologies, cults, frauds and deceptions. The inability to defend Christianity also turns people away and invites ridicule. We best review these important biblical mandates and not forget them.

Tried your false, legalistic demon spawned godlets. Prefer the real Christ. He offers a plan for all mankind. But i guess the lure of tithing settlements, yearly interviews probing ones personal life and of course climbing the ladder towards an unreachable goal are fun for you. Nice lack of manliness in the indirect passive aggressive and dare I say womanish attempts at reply Whitey. There is a lot to be said for actually conversing with a person as an adult, not playing cutsey games.

Your #67: Peter also implores us to be able to give reason for what we believe (1 Peter 3:15).

The truth can be written in our hearts through the witness of the Holy Spirit, which comes through a desire to know the truth, prayerful study of the Word of God, living the light we already have, etc.

Thanks for your post.

Translation:

"We have NO proof of any INACCURACIES in the KJV", so this standard statement of ours is useless.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has sent true and living apostles and prophets to the earth in our day, and has given much latter-day revelation to the world through them.

Does it line up with what has ALREADY been WRITTEN??

 Acts 8:29-35
 29.  The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it."
 30.  Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.
 31.  "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
 32.  The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
 33.  In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth."
 34.  The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?"
 35.  Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

(One book from the OT was adequate!!)

Acts 15:7
After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

Acts 20:24
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me--the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

Acts 20:27-31
For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.
 28.  Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.  Be shepherds of the church of God,  which he bought with his own blood.
 29.  I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.
 30.  Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.
 31.  So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...) distort the truth = Koran/Quran or 'other scriptures, sermons or spoutings'

Romans 15:18-20
 18.  I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done--
 19.  by the power of signs and miracles, through the power of the Spirit. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.
 20.  It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

Romans 16:25-27
 25.  Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past,
 26.  but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him--
 27.  to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

1 Corinthians 15:1-2
Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.
 2.  By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

2 Corinthians 11:4
For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.

distort the truth = Koran/Quran or 'other scriptures, sermons or spoutings'

Galatians 1:6-7
 6.  I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--
 7.  which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

distort the truth = Koran/Quran or 'other scriptures, sermons or spoutings'

Galatians 1:11-12
 11.  I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.
 12.  I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

(Not from some angel)

1 Thessalonians 2:4
On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

1 Timothy 1:9-11
 9.  We also know that law  is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,
 10.  for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers--and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine
 11.  that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

Titus 1:9
He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

(Won't need something ELSE coming along later...)

Romans 16:17
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.
(Is it different??)

1 Corinthians 4:17
For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

(Is it different??)

1 Corinthians 11:2
I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings,  just as I passed them on to you.

(Is it different??)

 2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

(Is it different??)

2 Thessalonians 3:6
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us.

(Is it different??)

1 Timothy 1:3-4
 3.  As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer
 4.  nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith.

(No.... what outfit would do THIS??!!??)

1 Timothy 4:6
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.

(Is it different??)

2 Timothy 1:13
What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

(Is it different??)

Titus 2:1
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

(Is it different??)

Hebrews 13:9
Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them.

2 Peter 2:1
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.

(The Muslims do this....)

2 John 1:9
Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

(The Muslims do this....)

2 John 1:10
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.

(What can I say??....)

The Question:
Shall we continue polygamy or not?

The Answer:

This is the question I lay before the Latter-day Saints. You have to judge for yourselves. I want you to answer it for yourselves. I shall not answer it; but I say to you that that is exactly the condition we as a people would have been in had we not taken the course we have.
