Episcopal Church (USA) breaks with Christianity over gay bishop
Gulf1 ^ | 10/9/03 | Kenneth E. Lamb

They took a vote, and Jesus lost. That sums up the overwhelming majority of worldwide reaction to the Episcopal Church USA (ECUSA) convention in Minneapolis. Departing from more than 40 centuries of Pre-Christian Jewish and Christian era doctrine, just over 100 Episcopalian bishops voted to elevate a practicing homosexual man to be bishop of their New Hampshire diocese.

Gene Robinson, 56, divorced his wife 13 years ago to live with Mark Andrew, 50. Robinson has never claimed his is in a celibate relationship with Andrew.

While the libertine-fringe faction of the ECUSA rejoiced at his election, Anglican leaders around the world said the ECUSA was apostate. In effect, they said the ECUSA was imitating Robinson's divorce from holy matrimony to put his gay lifestyle first by divorcing itself from Christianity and the Anglican Communion, to pursue the "homosexual agenda."

The BBC reported, "In South America, Archbishop Gregory Venables, primate of the Province of the Southern Cone (South America), called the decision to ratify the election of Mr. Robinson a 'slap in the face of the Anglican Church around the world.'"

In another story, the BBC ran this quote: "'This body willfully confirming the election of a person sexually active outside of holy matrimony has departed from the historic faith and order of the Church of Jesus Christ,' said Pittsburgh Bishop Robert Duncan."

The most animated reaction came from Africa, where nearly 50 per cent of all the world's Anglicans reside. The BBC wrote, "The Nigerian Bishop of Owerri, Cyril Okoracha, said the appointment was insensitive, and the American church had, in effect, removed itself from the Anglican Communion . . . He added that Gene Robinson's claim that God called him to be a bishop did not alter the fact that Bishop Robinson was defying the written word of God."

The Nation, the leading daily in Kenya, said, "Anglicans in Kenya threatened to sever links with a US diocese that elected a practicing homosexual as its bishop. Church leaders condemned the Americans' decision, saying homosexuality was unacceptable."

Reaction from the world's newspapers reflected the high anxiety Robinson has caused the Anglican Communion.

Here, in rapid-fire order, is a sample from around the world you didn't get to read in the US media's coverage, as reported by BBC Monitoring:

"The Anglican Church in Chile rejects the appointment of homosexual bishop in the United States ... Bishop Hector Zavala, chief of the Church in Chile deeply regrets the decision ... it is contrary to the clear teachings of the Holy Scriptures." (Chile's Tercera de la Hora); "The gay bishop has caused a scandal in the Anglican Church ... Jeffrey John [the gay priest who refused to take up his appointment as Bishop of Reading] had declined his own election in light of his scandal, but with the Americans, it's another story." (France's Le Monde); "Gay bishop tears the Anglican Church ... Gene Robinson's election has provoked an earthquake in the Anglican world." (France's Liberation); "The election of Gene Robinson is expected to fuel the debate in US society, which is split over the issue of homosexuality and partnerships between people of the same gender." (Sweden's Expressen); "Gene Robinson has become the first openly-homosexual bishop in history ... The issue of legalizing same-sex marriages is one of the most pressing in America today ... The topic is of just as much interest to society as the problems of a post-war settlement in Iraq, curbing the nuclear ambitions of North Korea or reviving the US economy." (Russia's Izvestiya).

At press time, within days of when you receive this month's issue, the Archbishop of Canterbury, titular head of the Anglican Communion, will host a meeting of the world's Anglican primates. Watch and see their reaction to their "American cousins."

Good analysis. Thank the Lord for the leadership of African Christians.

Those against this election are spliting off.

Episcopalians here in the USA who believe it's ok for a homo to be in a leadership position are in the majority - but only in the USA. In this case, it IS the majority who will be "kicked out" of the anglican communion.

Those episcopalians who are following scripture by condeming a homo bishop will remain within the "worldwide" anglican communion, and will be able to keep their churches, etc..the homo lovers will be out on their "buts"

Nope. Those of us against this election are staying in, so that we can pick up the pieces after the heretics dry up and blow away.

Most of the rest of the Anglican Communion (including the Global South provinces that contain the vast majority of Anglicans) are going to act to protect the orthodox people within ECUSA.

And there are significant indications that the Roman Catholic Church is on our side.

Christianity: Communist tool?

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | Wednesday, October 8, 2003 | Joseph E. Krill (letter to the editor)

Posted on 10/09/2003 9:55 AM CDT by Willie Green

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use. During the 1930s, the Communist Party, under the direction of the Kremlin, placed more than 1,100 men into the seminaries of the Catholic Church in order to destroy it from within.

The Communists also placed hundreds of men in Protestant seminaries with the sole purpose of spawning a movement that in time would change Christianity from the true religion to one of secularism.

Manning Johnson, a former official of the Communist Party of America, told the House un-American Activities Committee in 1953 that "this policy of infiltrating seminaries was successful beyond even our Communist expectations." As of 1960, this same committee knew of more than 100 people in leadership positions in the National Council of Churches in America.

The people behind Communism are the same ones who just 27 years earlier, acting as radical socialists, laid the foundation for the Bolshevik (read Communist) Revolution in Russia, causing the slaughter of tens of millions of Christians.

Make no mistake, Communism is determined to destroy America, and I just told everyone how.

Joseph E. Krill

Take heart, diamond6. This sort of crap has been going on for years. Now we no longer have to see the sneaky infiltration, the gradual shading of language to finally come to say the opposite of what Christ meant, or the sacerdotal moles in place who don't believe in Christ's divinity.

I say with only a little humor that for 20 years I have been ready for a true Inquisition in the Episcopal Church. This will be much less painful, but just as effective.

I take it you think McClintock is the political surrogate, albeit an imperfect one, for Christ?

If conservative Episcopalians do not act to break away quickly and form a separate denomination, seeking the approval of the Anglican Communion as the legitimate representative of Anglicanism in the United States, the outflow of Christians from the Episcopal Church, USA, will continue and probably increase. Even conservative parishes and dioceses will wither away, as the laity moves to the Catholic Church or the evangelical denominations. As conservative clergy retire or die, the seminaries, which are liberal dominated, will ensure a steady stream of CINO (Christians in Name Only) pastors, many of whom will be homosexual, will replace them.

Learn from the history of the Presbyterians. In the 1930s, after the liberals took over the United (Northern) Presbyterian Church (UPC) and ousted the Bible believing Christians from Princeton Seminary, their former stornghold, J. Gresham Machen and several other conservatives were expelled from that denomination. They formed a new church, which would become the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The denomination's clergy still contained a large conservative minority. Few of them left the UPC, some because of fear of losing their pensions, others because they believed the liberals' lie of peaceful coexistence. As the conservative ministers retired or died, liberals took their place. By 1970, the UPC was so radicalized that it contributed funds to the legal defense of the Communist Angela Davis.

The conservative Northern Presbyterian remnant in the 1930s probably thought they would pick up the pieces after the liberals blew away. Some 70 years later, the spiritual descendants of the liberals hold the Presbyterian Church, USA (created after the unification of the Northern and Southern Presbyterian churches) in a death grip.

Remember that Scripture tells us to keep away from the unclean thing and be separate. The conservative Episcopalians would do well to heed these words.

just over 100 Episcopalian bishops voted to elevate a practicing homosexual man to be bishop of their New Hampshire diocese.

It's not just that they elevated a practicing homosexual, they elevated a man who abandoned his wife and children so he could get his sexual kicks.

Whether he left for a man or a woman, he should have been defrocked for that alone. How in G-d's name (literally) can he counsel anyone on their duty to G-d when he has so abandoned the notion.

My guess is that the pro-homosexual faction has had to so twist its thinking to accept homoerotic behavior that it no longer knows sexual sin from a hole in the ground.

Shalom.

You said it buster.

Anyone know where you can get a list of the Episcopal Churches and Bishops who are protesting? I am looking for a church and would love to return to my Episcopalian roots.

Shalom.

If there are any such conservative Episcopalians in south-central Pennsylvania, here's one former Episcopalian looking for a church home.

Shalom.

This is an interesting story due to the way the story is perceived here in the US. You're dead on about the minority/majority issue. The Anglican communion, and hence, Episcopalianism, isn't splitting - they're kicking out a group of apostates. Big difference when it comes to perceptions.
