SENATE POISED TO GRANT ILLEGAL ALIEN STUDENT AMNESTY We Can Stop It With Your Help
We need you to call members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to stop passage of S. 1545, the DREAM Act. The bill will be voted on in committee the week of the 13th. Call as many people on the list below as possible. If you are a constituent of any of them, send them a free faxed message through our web site.
New Developments:
Yesterday, October 2, the full Senate Judiciary Committee came close to approving S. 1545, which would repeal the current federal law that bans states from granting in-state tuition for illegal aliens. Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) introduced this legislation, the Development, Relief, and Education for Minors (DREAM) Act. Fortunately, Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) raised objections to the bill and was able to temporarily stop the committee from moving forward. But the bill will be brought back up for committee consideration the week of October 13 (after next weeks congressional recess). The bill is expected to easily pass the Senate once it is passed by the committee. So we must defeat this bill while it is still in committee. YOUR HELP IS CRITICAL.
This outrageous legislation would provide an amnesty for illegal alien students and ultimately their parents and families. It grants permanent resident status to illegal aliens who have been enrolled in good standing in a bachelor degree program for at least two years (no graduation, attendance, or other requirements needed). In some instances amnesty is available to individuals if they perform less than four months of community service with a non-profit organization.
Call to Action (See Talking Points Below):
- Contact all members of the Senate Judiciary Committee by fax and by telephone and urge them to vote no on the DREAM Act when the Judiciary Committee meets to consider the legislation (see list of Committee members with fax and telephone numbers below). They will be in recess next week, so please call and fax their state offices first.
- If one of these members is your senator, please send a free faxed message through the Elected Officials section of our web site. Once you find your senators page, click the Send Message icon, and then click Compose Your Own Letter at the bottom of the screen. Use the talking points below to craft your message.
Talking Points:
- This is a form of amnesty and is objectionable for all of the reasons that any amnesty for illegal aliens is objectionablemost importantly, that it rewards violators of U.S. law and encourages others to follow in their footsteps and sneak into the country illegally.
- This legislation puts illegal aliens ahead of American citizens and legal residents (a denial of equal protection under the law), by giving them in-state tuition rates while American citizens will have to pay higher out-of-state tuition fees if they are not state residents.
- If passed, this legislation would repeal current federal law that bars granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens without also providing in-state tuition for non-resident U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents.
- This legislation is a blazing neon sign announcing to the rest of the world that anyone who can get to the U.S. illegally can get a cut rate college education for their children, thereby encouraging ever greater numbers of illegal aliens.
- State colleges and universities across the nation have limited enrollment capacity, and, therefore, increasing the intake of illegal aliens into these schools will necessarily preclude opportunities for deserving U.S. citizens and legal residents.

If only the Republicans had a majority in both the Senate and the House, we wouldn't have to worry about Hispandering legislation like this anymore.
Can you believe it was a democrat who stopped this insanity the last time? I hope Tancredo has his fighting shoes on in the House, that might be our only chance.
There.
That oughta clear things up a lot.
Boy I sure am glad we voted Republican to win back the Senate. Who knows what would have happened if we didn't all vote for Liddy, eh az?
Now this is a question for all the North Carolinians out there. Considering the Hispanic population in the state of North Carolina, the fact that we were told Liddy would do what the White House wants her to, and the White House is in favor of this bill as it's quite apparent from President Bush's statements how he feels, or doesn't feel I should say, on the illegality of border hoppers, why is it again we voted Republican? Oh, yes I forgot. To 'win' back the Senate. I'm sure glad 'we' won back the Senate so legislation like this could get through....
The bill is expected to easily pass the Senate once it is passed by the committee
Yep, I'm glad the Senate is run by the 'good' party instead of the 'bad' party < /sarcasm>. No judicial nominations are worth this. Legislation introduced by a Republican, and voted for in a Republican Senate
Not saying I told you so but....
We can't expect Conservative legislation from RINOs, it's a waste of time to bother electing them.
A majority of RINOs in Congress is still a Liberal Congress.
By the way, did you hear that Bush signed the Defense Spending Bill with a last minute change that gave the whole Naval base at Roosevelt Roads, PR over to the Puerto Rican government?
All that RINO chest thumping about selling the base to the highest bidder with 100% of the proceeds of the sale going to the U.S. Taxpayers was just a lot of Bush/RINO 'smoke and mirrors'.
The 'Hispanderer-in-Chief' strikes, again!
BUMP THAT!!
It's as if Clinton/Gore were still in office.
