REPEATING HISTORY IN CA 10/4/03 MARK A SITY

Let me first start this by saying “THANKS ED”, since in WI we have Ed Thompson to thank for splitting our vote and giving us Bingo Jim Doyle as a governor. Our acting governor lost the election by 3%, in large part because Ed took 10% of the vote. True, at least half of his vote was to support gambling, and maybe we’d have lost anyway. But the fact remains that we have a Socialist in the Governor’s mansion today. In IL they can say “thanks Cal”. In 1996 we all could say “thanks Ross”, for giving us 4 more years of Clinton. In 2000, we can thank the Green party (and mean it) for taking away some of Gore’s votes.

I warned about this after the 2000 elections, it seems the message didn’t get out to CA. Here is the link to my post: http://www.logic101.net/TimeFornEnd.htm

One interesting note, I got a lot of rabid replies on Free Republic to my original post from Libertarians which had the same tone of Tom’s supporters when they call Rush or Sean. In fact, many of the same arguments were used.

Yet, it seems that in CA the voters are prepared to re-live history by splitting the vote again. I prefer Tom to Arnold by a wide margin. I wish Arnold would have not gotten into the race. The problem is that he has the name recognition while Tom does not. It is just not time for Tom, as much as I wish it were. Perhaps he could unseat Diane Frankenstein the next time she is up, or maybe Boxer. I think he would be a great asset in the Senate. I don’t think I’d have to send him a pair of superballs, which I am considering doing for each Republican Senator (well, they don’t seem to have any!). Unlike Ed, Tom is a fantastic candidate. But sadly as I stated it is not his time. If he stays in the race, soon the residents of CA may look at Cruz and say “Thanks Tom”.

To Tom and his supporters, please remember that “those who fail to learn the lessons of history are condemned to forever repeat them.” There are times when you just have to go for the best deal you can get.

Good thoughts, but a waste of time and bandwidth if you are expecting any converts.

Tom's supporters will go down with the Titanic, ram-rod straight, hand salute, with nary a regret or qualm. And if you dare criticize their sacred loyalty, stand by for the wrath of God.

The way they look at it, it is Arnold's duty to get out of the race and hand all of his loyal supporters over to the true believer and, naturally, anyone who suggests otherwise is a closet DU disruptor and should be banned.

No quite that bad...

I simply don't want to be ashamed of my vote.

Would you rather be ashamed of your governor? Be sure to say "thanks Tom" whenever you see Gov Cruz!

Some times you have to look at the real world and make decisions on what exists, rather than what you want to exist, for if you make decisions in the later mindset, you will never achieve the sort of world you want to exist!

Hey, I basically agree.

But when Arnold picked Warren Buffet as his economic advisor that became a bridge too far for me.

Whoa.. its not thanks Tom, it's Thanks all the voters who threw away their votes on a candidate that cannot win. And no, if everyone who said that voted for him, he still would not win.

I heard some guy on the radio the other day saying that his religion forces him to vote for McClintock, because he will go to hell if he votes for a baby killer (Arnold I guess is now an abortion doctor), while the show host could talk no sense into him regarding his vote allowing a liberal who loves abortion in office.

It all makes no sense, but if, on some small infintismal chance that Arnold loses, I sincerly hope that all the Tom voters realize what they did to the state and the Country.

Some people actually want to vote their conscience despite the fact that others don't want them to. Instead some want to use cheap tactics to frighten them into voting for someone they disapprove of - Arnold. It's very feasible that Tom can win when people vote for the best man for the job instead of another closet Demoncrat. Then again some are content with continually lowering their standards and settling for mediocrity.

IMHO too many people think of the process (governing) as an event (election). The election of the candidate is only the first step in the process. You need to get the guy into office who is first and foremost electable given the profile of the electorate. THEN, you have to apply constant pressure on him/her to move closer and closer to your position. If you split the vote and the "other side" gets in no amount of pressure on your part will benefit you and your positions.

logic101 has it EXACTLY right!

The author has it backwards. It's the Arnold camp which is causing a socialist - Arnold himself - to be elected.

Being from Tennessee, I can't vote in the California election. Before the recent, coordinated smear attacks on Arnold, President Bush, and Rush, I might have voted for McClintock if I were a Californian.

Now there is no reason to support McClintock and a compelling reason for all Californians who value thier freedom to vote for Arnold. We must make this anit-American, Marxist smear campaign explode in the faces of the DemonRATS.

Wow!
Guess Hillary Clinton is so opposed to him because he is "only" a socialist?
Gues the LA Slime is so opposed to him because they are right'wing upholders of democracy, etc.?

You DO remember Arnolds quote about Milton Friedman, don't you? Socialist, indeed. there may be good reason to vote against Arnold, but a follower of Milton Friedman is not a socialist. Etc.

I see that you don't understand what Socialism is. I have studied it. Socialism is government control of everything, to put it simply. Arnold is not Socialist, he is a moderate. Cruz is a Socalist. Tom is giving Cruz a chance at the Governor's office.

I'd have much rather seen Tom elected, but guys, it is time for a reality check!

Well, why not go all the way and vote for Cruz? Since it is Arnold you disapprove of, and didn't mention any disapproval of Cruz, you might as well vote for the candidate that can win!

Personally I'd rather have someone who I at least shared some views with, rather than someone who sees things exactly the opposite of my view.

Saddly, you are right about Tom's supporters going down with the ship. His staying in just might prevent him from ever getting a higher office since he may leave voters with a bad taste. This would really be a shame as I'd love to see him as a Senator.

I have seen the same attitude among Libertarians when I posted my original article after the last election.

I was not thrilled with Buffet either, in fact I was shocked! But, who exactly would Cruz be listening to on economic matters?

This is a case of the lesser of two evils.

No, it is "thanks Tom", since he stayed in even though the numbers were not there. Although I do understand your point.

Was it the Hannity (sp?) show you were listening to? I think I caught part of that call, or one like it. It is not as if States were still allowed the freedoms granted them in the Constitution!

And when did Arnold have time to go to medical school to become an abortion doctor? I guess I missed that on his bio.

If Cruz wins, not only will the libs have the governor's office in CA, but the best chance to beat Frankenstein or Boxer will have burned his bridges! This is a potentially very bad situation!

I was actually surprised that Freedman came out in support of Arnold. As an Econ major his text books were the staple! However, Milton is a realist.
