Tom McClintock's Political Career: R.I.P.
dfu | 9-30-03 | doug from upland

Posted on 09/30/2003 2:42:54 PM PDT by doug from upland

Tom McClintock continues his walk toward the California political graveyard. It is an unstoppable walk, almost suicidal in its dedication.

McClintock is my first choice as governor. He would make a great governor. Ronald Reagan would also make a great governor. Unfortunately, those of us who live in the real world of California politics, recognize that neither McClintock, the Gipper, nor the pornstar will be the next governor of California. We recognize that politics is the art of the possible. Although Bruce Herschenson's recent commercials are well done, they are no more than wishful thinking. I've met Bruce. He would have been a great senator, and he came very close.

So, what will happen to McClintock? Unfortunately, he has painted himself into a corner. He has said over and over that he will not drop out. If he drops out now, he will be seen as a liar. If he doesn't drop out and Bustamante is handed the governorship, he will never be forgiven by Republicans. He will be a political dead man walking. Even if Arnold pulls it out in a close 3-man race, the GOP has been hoping for a Terminator mandate. Such would make it easier for him to deal with the runaway RATS who have been destroying our state.

Yes, McClintock is principled. Yes, Arnold only supports some of my own agenda. But Bustamante supports none of my agenda. I guess I'll take someone with whom I have 70% agreement and can win, rather than someone with whom I have 95% agreement who cannot win. Face it, McClintock Kool-Aid drinkers -- he is a great man but he cannot win. Standing on principles is noble, however, if you get no place at the table, all it does it make you feel good that you did the right thing. With a RINO in power, at least we have some chance of influencing policy. Maybe we can even change his mind on some issues. We will never have any influence over the Mecha Man. He will continue to destroy our state.

Tom McClintock is self-terminating. May his political career rest in peace.

Try this one on for size:

McClintock's career is far from over. In fact, over the last few days I have determined that his presence in the race was part of a well-orchestrated plan by the California GOP to get Arnold Schwarzenegger elected governor.

And, if Schwartenegger gets in an pulls a Christie Todd Whitman, raises taxes and behaves like a liberal? Then, the Republican will be resting in peace for generation.

Sadly, the polls show McClintock would win easily if not for Schwarenkennedy. This was the one chance to save the Republican party in California. Now, conservatives put their faith and trust in a liberal Republican with the character of Bill Clinton.

I heard somewhere that TM ran for congress against Bob Hope's son for a congressional district including Simi valley. Story was he withdrew from the race thinking he could never beat a celebrity. Turns out Hope lost.

I imagine that retreat plays heavily on his mind.

Doug, I have to agree. I love Tom's policies, but my respect for the man has been destroyed. I wrote this on another thread.

Webster's refers to it this way...

1. A mental disorder characterized by symptoms, such as delusions..., that indicate impaired contact with reality.

This is the definition of Psychosis.

Tom McClintock cannot get elected with 15-18% of the vote.  82-85% of the public disagrees with his views.  I happen to agree with his views, but so what?  He isn't going to win.  He isn't a viable choice.  Tom's campaign is over.  That is reality and Tom can't deal with it any more than his impaired followers can.

This can only be explained by a temporary Mass Psychosis.

A group of people want something so badly, that they simply cannot deal with reality.  Those that recognize reality and have chosen to deal with it, must be the sick ones, since Tom's followers certainly can't be.

The cure is coming.  October 8th will force reality upon them.  Don't celebrate.

At that point another Mass Psychosis will be instilled upon them.

At that point every move of Schwarzenegger will be judged by what McClintock would have done.  It doesn't matter that McClintock was opposed by 82-85% of the electorate or even more.  If only we would have chosen Tom, this (whatever it will be) wouldn't be happening.  That McClintock couldn't get elected without a couple of divisions, artillary, air cover and M-16s won't matter one whit.

Get ready for Mass Psychosis II, grating on a thread near you.

The choice is this on October 7th.  You either swallow the blue pill and except reality for what it is, or you take the orange one and sink back into your psychosis.

In the real world, it's Arnold or Cruz.  Does it matter or doesn't it?

Who would have thunk the day would come when Loretta Sanchez gushed over "true conservatives" sticking with their man?

don't forget Bustamante says the same thing about McCLintock. He knows Tom's supporters are giving him a fighting chance still.

This is the first time I'm commenting on this issue, and it is to say that I don't have to make a decision on this one thankfully. One part of me says "If you always vote for the lesser of two evils, you will get nothing but evil" -- this half of me supports McClintock. On the other hand there is part of me that says "If you always vote for the one that is on the extreme edge, you will never get your way", and this is the part that supports Arnold.

Let's see, Tom takes votes from Bustamante, to elect R'nald.

Doug's right on, RIP Whistling past the grave yard Tom.
