ATF Night Hosted by California Assembly Nominee John Brantuk Telephone: (562) 698-2870 email: John.W.Brantuk@BrantukForAssembly.org www.BrantukForAssembly.org

What is "ATF Night"? No, we're not the federal gun control agency. We are a social gathering of Second Amendment and liberty activists and leaders who meet monthly to discuss firearms-related issues over (optional) adult beverages and dinner, and afterwards, those so inclined may choose to step outside to continue discussions while enjoying a fine cigar - hence the name.

Originally hosted by The Lawyers' Second Amendment Society, the meetings have continued thanks to the leadership assumed by John Brantuk, Republican Nominee for the California State Assembly ( see www.BrantukForAssembly.org )

You don't have to be an activist to join us - newcomers and the curious are always welcome. And admission is always free.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| "1ST DEBATE" - from the San Francisco Chronicle 09/04/2003 On many of the issues Wednesday night, McClintock stood alone. He opposed abortion, vowed never to raise taxes and called for fewer restrictions on gun ownership, since "people have a fundamental right to defend themselves from violent predators."

His strong conservative stances likely won him some votes, possibly at the expense of more moderate Republicans such as Schwarzenegger and Ueberroth.

Republican analyst Tony Quinn said McClintock stood out from the pack of other hopefuls.

"Arnold's problem is they've got to get rid of McClintock -- and this hurt him," he said. "This gave McClintock the attention he won't get otherwise."

Pollster Mervyn Field agreed. "Arnold was hurt tonight," he said. "The question was: If he'd have been here, would he have been hurt more?"

"McClintock was forceful, and remarkable in his contrasts on positions" from the others.

I've seen you on these threads enough to know that you are fully aware of what Arnold's positions are.

He is anti-gay marriage, anti-taxes, anti-partial birth abortion, pro-informed consent for minors, pro-gun except for Brady and assault weapons, and anti-illegal immigrants in opposing DL's for illegals and supports closing the border entirely to new illegals. Yes, not perfectly conservative in those areas, but NOT THE SAME AS DAVIS.

Please show me evidence that Davis shares those same views in the areas you insist they are the same or YOU retract your smears .. which I know you won't... and know you'll be spreading the same lies tomorrow.

I realized after we starting arguing Tom-Arnold again that you might get the wrong impression that any here opposed your event... frankly, I'm jealous of all who can go!

Please enjoy the occasion and think of us less fortunate ones :-)

"I am a strong supporter of the second amendment. The U.S. constitution allows for law-abiding citizens to own a firearm."

Even Debbie Stabusall, John Kerry, and Bill Klinton say that. Doesn't mean a thing.

*He has also said that if we go too far with gun control that only the criminals would have them

What's 'too far' in his mind? He said that gun controls should be stiffer as well.

I also know that according to the Sac. Bee, he support a bill requiring loading indicators on firearms. Not only would that ban most guns from being sold there(Only one I think qualifies), it's poor for gun safety. The number one rule is 'guns are always loaded'.

I support the current assault weapons ban

The California so called assault weapon ban is one of the worst laws in the country. John Conyers and Carolyn McCarthy wants it nationwide. The worst part about that bill is that the Attorney General can ban any gun he wants by the stroke of the pen. I remember Dan Lungren doing that right before his election, and Bill Lockyear(an outspoken anti) may or may not have done the same thing. It was regarding the SKS.

and I believe that guns must have safety devices or be stored as to prevent accidental discharge."

They already have a 'safety'. And the real safety is the one between my ears.

and won't be taking anyone's guns away.
As long as the California AW ban is in place, guns can be taken away just by the AG's pen. And if he gets his way on loading indicators, that also prevents 99% of guns from being sold. This is also providing he can be taken at his word on this.

Maybe Arnold isn't Bill Lockyear, Kevin Shelley, Don Perata, or Jack Scott, but when there is a choice of a pro-2nd Amendment Republican running like Tom McClintock, it's a no brainer.

I know a 'poll' has McClintock losing, but polls had John Engler losing by double digits in 1990. Polls in my state had Al Gore losing, Debbie Stabusall losing, and Mike Cox losing. They all won. I really think McClintock can possibly pull an upset.

He's on the record with a liberal policy across the board. Dressing up liberal policies as not-so-bad-for-conservatives is a non-starter.

To pick out of your list as an example: anti-partial-birth abortion is not something that is unique to conservatives, since any feeling human being, if they know what it is, will be horrified by it. At the same time, killing the baby inside the womb and chopping it up there is okay with a lot of people, including Arnold - but not with conservatives. It's ridiculous on its face that you should suggest that being against a single gruesome procedure that this indicates any sign of conservatism in general. I know red-diaper babies who won't defend partial-birth; it doesn't make them conservatives.

This pattern of fake-out conservatism is clear across the board. Pro gay adoption, anti gay marriage. End result = loss for conservatives who want neither. How many perverts are going to be able to adopt children for their mental or physical pleasure, thanks to that? Can a person of conscience discount this factor?

And it goes on... the double-take on 2nd Amendment rights, refusal to specify any part of government that should be eliminated, the "I don't prefer taxes" while not ruling them out sleight of hand...

At some point you realize that he is only an actor playing a part, and that it doesn't need to make logical sense because the movie just needs to sell. At that point, the conservative realizes that Arnold is not one of us.

You've attracted a fine bunch of intelligent, right thinking conservatives with very cogent arguments.

I especially like the pizza box </ sarcasim>.

I would hope that if multiple polls show bustamante ahead shortly before the vote Tom would do the right thing and drop out. Should he not I'd have to weigh that decision then.

I don't know how much to trust polls, but if Bustamante is ahead significantly, to only sure way to prevent his governorship is to get enough people to vote "no."

Having other candidates drop out may not help much, because everyone sees the same polls and will vote for whomever they think has the right combination of ideals and electability. If supporters of Candidate X think X has no chance, they may decide to vote for someone else without needing X to drop out. Those who vote for X anyway probably wouldn't change their vote even if X withdrew between now and the election. Voters are pretty smart, so they can decide for themselves how to vote on election day.

In that sense, I sympathize with Peter Camejo (Green) in his support of runoff voting, although I don't know which format he supports, and I don't know if I would like that format. Of course, I disagree with Camejo on almost everything else.

Would say you are definitely right -- some people would definitely like it if the rest of us Arnold/Bush suppoerts were not on FR. Then they would have free reign to trash Arnold, Pres Bush, and the rest of the Republicans!

Sorry your thread was ruined by people intent on making personal insults regarding the appearance of a candidate versus the worthiness of his positions.

Why am I on your ping list and what post did you object to?

The one where I questioned why McClintock is accepting the ads from the Indian tribes? Is that a "personal insult regarding the appearance of the candidate"? I consider it a factor when considering the worthiness of his positions and the ethics on which he stakes those positions. And it would appear that is the level you wish to keep the conversation on.

Needless to say, I didn't need a rebuke from you.

Schwarzenegger: The U.S. constitution allows for law-abiding citizens to own a firearm."

Two minor points:
The Constitution recognizes that people have the right to keep and bear arms (plural), and it restricts Congress from infringing on that right. The Constitution itself doesn't provide for any subsidy for firearm ownership or grant that right, and it does not limit the quantity of firearms a person may own.

Well Heleny...I respect your opinion but I disagree.

I think if voters see that Mcclintock has dropped out the majority of his votes would go to the only man standing between bustamante and the governor's office. I also think he will do the right thing, what's best for the party and drop out asking his supporters to do the right thing by defeating bustamante. Of course we may have to wait until March to find out.

Not everyone on my ping list was guilty of making attacks on physical appearance, some were guilty of making personal attacks, some are people whose opinion I greatly respect, some are people that have a mutual desire to get the crap posts off the board.

He has believed for a long time that gun control can go too far...this is from an interview back in 1988.

"Outlawing guns is not the right method of eliminating the problem. If you outlaw guns, people will still have them illegally. In Europe, they're outlawed everywhere. They have very strict gun control in Italy. Yet the Pope was shot. They have very strict gun control in Germany. Yet you see pimps shooting one another."

http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/968440/posts

His statement about gun control needing to be "stiffer" was in direct reference to youth violence in general across the country and the interviewer was questioning him about whether he felt responsible about promoting violence in his movies (I can dig that interview up for you, too).

California's law is already stricter than the Brady Bill and there is no loophole in California's gun show sales anymore.

---

If you honestly believe that McClintock has a chance despite ALL the polls, then go for it. Just remember that Bustabudget is totally to the left of Arnold on the 2cnd Amendment.

Just a pack of strawmen.

You stated that Arnold is exactly the same as Davis regarding raising taxes, gay adoption, "loves abortion", "likes illegals", "against Second Amendment rights"...

He is NOT... regardless of what your paranoid, slippery-slope mentality tells you about what electing a moderate can do to the country.

Your fears are quite valid to bring up and discuss.... LYING about Arnold's positions because it supports your fears is NOT valid. Or ethical.
