ATF Night Hosted by California Assembly Nominee John Brantuk Telephone: (562) 698-2870 email: John.W.Brantuk@BrantukForAssembly.org www.BrantukForAssembly.org

What is "ATF Night"? No, we're not the federal gun control agency. We are a social gathering of Second Amendment and liberty activists and leaders who meet monthly to discuss firearms-related issues over (optional) adult beverages and dinner, and afterwards, those so inclined may choose to step outside to continue discussions while enjoying a fine cigar - hence the name.

Originally hosted by The Lawyers' Second Amendment Society, the meetings have continued thanks to the leadership assumed by John Brantuk, Republican Nominee for the California State Assembly ( see www.BrantukForAssembly.org )

You don't have to be an activist to join us - newcomers and the curious are always welcome. And admission is always free.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| "1ST DEBATE" - from the San Francisco Chronicle 09/04/2003 On many of the issues Wednesday night, McClintock stood alone. He opposed abortion, vowed never to raise taxes and called for fewer restrictions on gun ownership, since "people have a fundamental right to defend themselves from violent predators."

His strong conservative stances likely won him some votes, possibly at the expense of more moderate Republicans such as Schwarzenegger and Ueberroth.

Republican analyst Tony Quinn said McClintock stood out from the pack of other hopefuls.

"Arnold's problem is they've got to get rid of McClintock -- and this hurt him," he said. "This gave McClintock the attention he won't get otherwise."

Pollster Mervyn Field agreed. "Arnold was hurt tonight," he said. "The question was: If he'd have been here, would he have been hurt more?"

"McClintock was forceful, and remarkable in his contrasts on positions" from the others.

No, I'm upset at the posters that call themselves conservatives yet feel it is appropriate politics to LIE LIKE COMMUNISTS.

Conservatives have ethics...honesty is a pretty basic ethical value... you are no conservative.

Actually, it is my tagline but I have not 'posted' it very often.

Thanks for the clarification.

While getting that slug out is our #1 priority, doing so will be meaningless if we allow bustamante to take his place. A vote for a man who stands no chance of defeating him is as good as a vote for the man himself.

Not quite. A vote for someone other than Schwarzenegger and Bustamante (the two frontrunners) or no vote for anybody is a vote that's not for Bustamante or Schwarzenegger. It's a minor difference, but that voter may contribute to the yes/no question, too.

If the polls show Bustamante leading by a significant margin, I might think twice before voting to remove Davis, since a "yes" vote would virtually guarantee a Bustamante administration in that case. If multiple polls showed Bustamante ahead shortly before you vote, would you still vote to recall Davis? (This is hypothetical.)

Perhaps the Democrats ran Bustamante to make Davis look good.

I'd just like to say that I'm sorry this thread digressed as soon as you started it. As conservatives we agree with state Senator Tom McClintock's ideas. Listening to him in person would be a pleasure for me. I may not vote for the man this time around, but I do agree with his stand on the issues. I would like to hear what he has to say in person.

I am disappointed that folks couldn't understand this was an announcement thread and back off a little. The man has been invited. He has agreed to attend your event. Your group has scored a nice perk for those who will attend.

You guys have a great time and enjoy yourselves. You should be proud to be associated with a group that is well respected enough to have Senator Tom McClintock show up.

Likewise folks here should be proud to have a group that has scored a McClintock visit, want to participate here. I'll be glad when this election season is over and we can procede to the "I told you Schwarzenegger was an ass phase..."

Once again, kudos to you.

All the best.

BTW, I hope you have a good time! It does sound like a great event :-)

The ongoing dispute here is in no way meant to hurt the support for what you are doing, honestly. Arnold-supporters have just gotten bashed around too much lately because of a small but loud handful of McClintock campaign thugs.

Enjoy and we hope you let us know how it went :-)

Thanks for always being the voice of reason on these threads. I guess everyone's forgotten about being upset about illegal alien ID cards, liberal jobkiller bills, and the decision from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, so we've returned to our old ways of insulting each other. :(

Arnold likes guns, too :-)

Maybe he does, but he doesn't want me to have any.

Arnold is pro-gun and has stated it would be very dangerous if only criminals had guns. He does, however, support the Brady Bill and ban on assault weapons... along with most of the country.

You can not be pro-gun and support a ban on so called 'assault weapons'. That is anti-gun and anti-freedom. Period.

And if most of the country supported that, then the dems would still be in control of congress.

Thanks for the compliment, but I wish I were more the sound of reason that you seem to think I am. I blow it often enough. You take care. This will be over in a few weeks.

Thanks for the clarification.

No problem.

Not quite. A vote for someone other than Schwarzenegger and Bustamante (the two frontrunners) or no vote for anybody is a vote that's not for Bustamante or Schwarzenegger. It's a minor difference, but that voter may contribute to the yes/no question, too.

Agreed. But a no vote will be a vote to maintain the status quo. Is that what you want?

If the polls show Bustamante leading by a significant margin, I might think twice before voting to remove Davis, since a "yes" vote would virtually guarantee a Bustamante administration in that case.

Only if mcclintock decides to stay in and play the role of spoiler.

If multiple polls showed Bustamante ahead shortly before you vote, would you still vote to recall Davis? (This is hypothetical.)

That's a very good question heleny. I would hope that if multiple polls show bustamante ahead shortly before the vote Tom would do the right thing and drop out. Should he not I'd have to weigh that decision then.

Half a dozen posts later, I'm still trying to figure out what precisely you are asserting to be a lie. If you can't point to anything that is untrue that I have said here, you should retract your accusations.

Thanks, Tamsey. I appreciate that both Arnold-supporters and McClintock-supporters have been getting abused and that emotions are running high. I really hate to sound like Rodney King, but I hope we all can take a breath and just get along.

Your calm, gracious thoughts are sincerely appreciated.

"I am a strong supporter of the second amendment. The U.S. constitution allows for law-abiding citizens to own a firearm."

"I also believe that there are responsibilities that gun owners must follow in owning a firearm. I support the Brady bill, I support the current assault weapons ban and I believe that guns must have safety devices or be stored as to prevent accidental discharge."

www.joinarnold.com

*He has also said that if we go too far with gun control that only the criminals would have them. He is already to the RIGHT of California's ultra-strict laws... and won't be taking anyone's guns away. Bustamante, however, is probably drooling at the thought... after all, the only person that Democrats think should be armed is the Clinton's hitman.

Sorry your thread was ruined by people intent on making personal insults regarding the appearance of a candidate versus the worthiness of his positions.

I can only imagine how these posters' physical perfection must exceed their ability to lead and inspire great thought and debate.

Mr. B. Please don't give up - there are a large number of posters on the thread that are tired of the tone that has been present on the forum and are taking steps to try reverse it. Right now a small minority are causing problems. Everyone knows who they are and what they have to say - because it has been said a hundred times on a hundred different posts. It's like a four year old kid going through the potty talk stage.

A lot of us don't know how we are going to vote - we need more time and more info. And that is getting hard to do when you get the usual non-witty personal insults and tiresome graphics.

Now I predict there will be about 8 to 10 posters that are going to rag on me big time - I'll even wager who they might be by freepmail. I also know that these same posters wouldn't have the guts to do it in person.
