AFTER 12-YEAR STRUGGLE, MISSOURI SENATE OVERRIDES HOLDEN'S VETO TO PASS LICENSE-TO-CARRY INTO LAW!

The Missouri Senate has JUST NOW OVERRIDDEN GOV. BOB HOLDEN'S VETO OF LICENSE-TO-CARRY, by the narrow margin of 23 to 11!

23 votes were required to override, and we barely made it -- but we made it.

We were helped out in key swing votes by Senator Jon Dolan, who flew in from military duty in Cuba for this and the abortion override vote, and also by Senator Michael Gibbons, who voted against the original bill. No one knew until today how Senator Gibbons would cast his vote.

These are certainly not the only Senators who deserve to be thanked. Senator Harold Caskey, Democrat Senator from District 31, has swum against the tide of many of his colleagues to provide tremendous, courageous leadership in this issue. Senators Peter Kinder and Sarah Steelman also come to mind as prominent supporters. And those who passed the override in the House deserve to be thanked as well, because without them we would never have reached this point.

"Just look at how they're treating the pilots..."

Yeah, but look at the money someone is making at $6000 per pilot for the training.

Here's my training class:

Trainer to pilot: When you hear someone breaking down the cockpit door, unholster your firearm, turn around and shoot the bastard. If he is still moving, shoot him again.

Class dismissed.

For crying out loud, the cockpit door is less than 2 foot wide and is located 2 or 3 feet behind where the pilot sits. How much training does anyone need do deal with that?

The number of states that do NOT have concealed carry is getting smaller and smaller. Soon it will be NY, CA and IL.

Hopefully IL can get it together.

I've pretty much given up on NY and CA. Maybe they'll get the point when all they have there is criminals (who don't pay taxes).

Say we put our effort into building a big wall around those two states. Sorry to any freepers in NY and CA. When the ships going down its time to bail out :)

And very, very soon we'll see an increase in crime on the Illinois side of the river.

"With a Federal permit, it could all go away very quickly as well. This is a state issue, anyway."

I agree...and given the AWB, it would probably(a federal carry permit) contain a "sunset provision" and we'd all be back at square one in a few years.

Far better to issue an Executive Order with the force of law that gives all states total reciprocity of CCW permits under both the "Full Faith and Credit AND the Equal Protection" clauses of the Constitution. In simpler terms, if your drivers licenses are good and valid in a state (or a protectorate like Guam or Puerto Rico), so too, are your premits to carry concealed firearms good in ALL states and the District of Columbia.

Once we get enough States converted we can try for a national concealed carry permit.

National resiprosity amoung all states yes, a national concealed carry NEVER.

A national concealed carry would turn a right into a privilege, controled by the Federal Government, Who could revoke the privilege just as easily as they issue it.

The rumor that I have heard is that Doyle will not veto if there it passes by a lot. But he won't sign it either. I think the law is such that if he lets it sit on his desk for 30 days, it's a defacto signature, and the bill would become law. So Doyle wouldn't get the wrath of the NRA, nor the wrath of the liberals.

If One Term Bob had been smart, that's what he would have done.

But One Term Bob does not seem to be overly bright.

Congrats. With luck, Wisconsin is NEXT!!!

Very possibly. The victory in Missouri gives momentum to the remaining 5 States.

If he's smart, He'll sign.

Or at least let it pass into law without his signature.

Bob was not smart. Not on this, and not on abortion.

Dumb move, Bob.

It takes leadership to get something like this done. Over the past few years here and there, I've met a few of the people involved in this struggle. Some of them worked for many years for this day. I'm talking YEARS here. They never gave up in their fight for law-abiding citizens to have the same ability to be armed as the thugs and criminals, and today it finally happened.

Now maybe it's time to push for something like this (Pennsylvania Constitution):

Right to Bear Arms
Section 21.

The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.

Ir's a shame that we have to struggle to protect constitutional rights.

It may be a shame, but "eternal vigilance is the watchword of liberty" Thus is has ever been and thus it ever shall be. Anything that fosters an independent spirit and lessons dependence on government will always be opposed by many factions in government and their political enablers.

Any idea as to who voted against it. We're in Dist.8 - Matt Bartle's district.

You're right. If my driver's license is good between the states (and some argue that the driving is a privilege and not a right), why isn't my license to carry, not?

Full faith and credit should apply. PA now has reciprocity with 11(IIRC) states now. That is something that we have been pushing hard with the outgoing AG (and failed candidate for governor) Mike Fisher. Of course, now that he is a lame duck and term limited, he doesn't even return our calls.

Marvelous map and bump for everyone to read!!! Something needs to be done to permanently vote out of office those who opposed. The job MUST be finished.

Thanks for the ping.

It looks like they will recognize Florida, and any other permits as well.

There are lots of places listed that you "can't carry", BUT the penalty for going there is nothing more than being asked to leave, as I understand the bill.
