Comedian Chong Sentenced on Drug Charges
By DAN NEPHIN, Associated Press Writer
PITTSBURGH - Tommy Chong (news), who played one half of the dope-smoking duo in the Cheech and Chong movies, was sentenced to nine months in federal prison and fined $20,000 Thursday for selling bongs and other drug paraphernalia over the Internet.
The 65-year-old was allowed to remain free until federal prison officials tell him in a few weeks where he must report to prison.
Chong also forfeited about $100,000 for his arrest on federal drug paraphernalia charges. He'll spend a year on probation after he's released from prison.
His Nice Dreams Enterprises, which made a line of marijuana bongs and pipes, was to be sentenced later Thursday. Under federal law, the business itself can be placed on probation or face other sanctions.

Obviously a case of mistaken identity. I recently heard an interview with Chong, who was talking about his high-quality, handblown incense burners. You don't think the Feds confused these incense burners with bongs, do you?
To: monkeyshine
I agree 100%
I can't believe he is 65 years old!
Or why he and Cheech haven't ridden the recent nostalgia/reunion wave and gotten back together. I think Cheech is trying to be respectable now or something.

Interesting. You can buy them legally in Wisconsin as long as they aren't used for "illegal substances", ahem. No, you cannot. The point of the prosecution is that under Federal law, all drug paraphenalia is strictly illegal and will land you in federal prison. Don't believe it? Ask Tommy Chong.
Up to now the feds have looked the other way. No more. Any Wisconson headshop owners have to be thinking twice now. Is it worth a stint in federal prison just to sell some bongs and pipes?

Paraphernalia, huh? In a similar vein, would it be illegal to sell limes and tonic water to someone under 21?

If manufactured and sold in Wisconsin, under what Article of the Constitution does that Federal authority lie?
Just curious.

Was it illegal to sell beer steins, wine glasses, shot glasses, etc... during prohibition?

Isn't that a line from an old Cheech and Chong skit? If not, well, I feel kind of silly.

This is an obscene waste of federal time, moneyExactly.
Back in 2001, while the FBI was busy dealing with a local whorehouse in New Orleans, al Qaeda was training its pilots and flying into skyscrapers in New York.
Way to go, FBI. I'm sure that the depleted uranium imported by ABC News producers was just an aberration of the tight security in our ports of entry.
