A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ ~ ~Where Were You?~ ~ ~

Where were you
when the sky rained down
liquid fire and lost souls;
when the air billowed poison,
when sirens wailed
and cries echoed urgently and painfully?
Never forget....

Where were you
when, with a thunderous roar,
monsters of steel and glass
crumbled to the earth
belching black gaseous clouds
as thick and as dark as satan's cloak?
Never forget....

Where were you
when eerie silence fell like
winter's first snowfall;
when voices and spirits were
stilled forever in
unadorned and involuntary graves?
Never forget....

Where were you
when satan's children laughed
and danced in streets of candy
while families mourned
eternal emptiness, longing for
just one last chance to say, "I love you?"
Never forget....

NYFD Battalion Chief John Moran (Freeper BCM) Perishes In World Trade Center
NY Daily News

Posted on 10/04/2001 1:22 PM PDT by AppyPappy

The bone-chilling wail of bagpipe playing "Amazing Grace" echoed through a Queens church yesterday as yet another fallen firefighter from the World Trade Center tragedy was memorialized in death.

It was yet another day — of many more to come — for Masses and memorial services for both heroic rescue workers and innocent civilians lost in the flames and collapsing towers.

At the memorial Mass for 49th Battalion Chief John Moran, his younger brother, Firefighter Michael Moran of Ladder 3, recalled how he spoke to his brother by cell phone after the second plane crashed into the Trade Center.

"I told him to be careful," the younger Moran told mourners, including his brother's wife, Kim, and two sons, Ryan, 7, and Dylan, 4. "I didn't see him there that day, but now I see him all the time."

The memorial Mass at St. Francis de Sales Church in Belle Harbor, Queens, was conducted by the fallen firefighter's uncle, Father Paul Moran, who called his 42-year-old nephew's last assignment a "mission of love, to save life, not destroy it."

Mayor Giuliani called for a standing ovation for the 20-year fire veteran, who held a law degree from Fordham University and was injured in the Father's Day explosion at an Astoria hardware store that killed three firefighters.

The mayor said while Moran's two young sons may not fully comprehend all that's happened, "The thing I want them to understand for their entire life is that their father is a great man."
It is believed that John Moran is BMC. We have a picture from a freep Posted Here. Here is his Fire Dept Memorial http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/f dny/html/memorial/wtc/moran_jo hn_bc_bat049.html. Here is a google search of his postsHere

I found these:

This was the best time I've ever had in the pouring rain! I was shouting so hard that I can hardly speak today. While the chants were great and certainly got people's attention, I personally loved it when we sang "America the Beautiful" and "God Bless America." I think that really stopped people in their tracks (and completely confounded the liberals).

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Thanks to you and to everyone who has contributed today.

Not sure if it's proper etiquette, but our flag is at half-staff today.

But rather, love your enemies and do good to them,
and lend expecting nothing back;
then your reward will be great
and you will be children of the Most High,
for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
Be merciful, just as also your Father is merciful.

Thank you ((((((Salvation))))))))

We must be reminded from time to time that the words of the Gospel are timeless and apply to every situation in our lives. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Nope John is actually the older brother of Mike Moran (the firefighter who told OBL to kiss his royal Irish Arse).

His father in law logged onto FR and saw the tributes....he was deeply touched.

Barbara Olson, American Patriot
By Ann Coulter
FrontPageMagazine.com | September 12, 2001

THE HIJACKERS pushed the passengers to the back of the plane out of Dulles Airport, Barbara Olson managed to make two final calls on her cell phone. She called her husband, Ted, the Solicitor General of the United States. She told him to call the FBI, her plane was being hijacked.

Moments later, evidently while still on the line with her husband, the plane plunged into the Pentagon. Barbara must have had to place the call furtively, and it can’t have been easy to make the call, because of the terrorists as well as the terror. It was a courageous act.

The Washington Post has run an odd report claiming the hijackers ordered passengers with cell phones to call their loved ones to say they were about to die.Maybe that’s true.

The facts are still coming out about large chunks of this story. But I can’t help being suspicious. That story doesn’t really hang together.

If 64 passengers knew they had just been recruited for a suicide mission, it’s hard to figure how the hijackers could have held them off with box-cutters.It’s also hard to imagine hijackers intent on plunging into the Pentagon bothering with the courtesy of farewell phone calls. And if they all were about to die anyway, it’s not clear why Barbara Olson would have asked Ted for advice about what she should tell the pilot to do – something that has been authoritatively reported.

We haven’t heard of other cell calls, though nearly everyone has a cell phone these days.

She knew who to call and what to say despite what must have been blinding terror.

She was in death as she was in life: The James Bond woman. Barbara was beautiful enough to be a dumb blonde, but she had the steely determination, wit and charm of someone who would not be able to get by on her looks.

Barbara wrote the New York Times bestseller, “Hell to Pay,” about Hillary Clinton, the molecular opposite of a James Bond girl. She smiled and laughed at her debate opponents while sweetly shredding them to bits. And she never compromised, not her integrity, not the facts, not the law.

Barbara risked having her neck slit to warn the country of a terrorist attack. She was a patriot to the very end. I can’t believe I’ll never be able to tell her that.

I second that about the graphic and your art work. There are two drawings - yours and the child out west who did the drawing of liberty holding a child in her arms and a pistol in the other - I believe the caption was "never come between a mother and her child"

If we remember one thing, it is that, in their own way these people died for their country/countries. We mustn't forget that there were people from other parts of the world.

The most horrible site was the Pentagon. To me, seeing the vuneralbility of the pentagon was gut wrenching. To me, the Pentagon had always seemed invunerable, a symbol of our strength and then it was injured, a fallen warrior.

It seems that, because the death of the WTO was so spectacular, that the people, men, women and children who died in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. have been shoved to the side as incidental to the fact.

They are getting ready to have a service at the USS YORKTOWN this evening. I wish that I could go. There is a group here in Charleston, I can't remember the name, but they are building instead of mourning. That Americans can pull together and will not be pulled apart.

GOD bless America.
