September 10, 2003 -- LOS ANGELES - Peter Ueberroth benched himself from the California recall race yesterday, boosting Arnold Schwarzenegger's GOP bid for the governor's chair. The former baseball commissioner quit the race after a poll showed he was running in fourth place with just a projected 5 percent of the vote. Ueberroth's strikeout turns up the heat on GOP state Sen. Tom McClintock, the running in third place with 13 percent. The poll showed Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante with 30 percent of the vote to Schwarzenegger's 25 percent.

This partisan pressure to squeeze out any Republican candidates who aren't married to a Kennedy may backfire. To begin with, the Republicans have eliminated candidates with genuine managerial and/or government service experience. Moreover, they are putting all their eggs in Ahnold's basket ... and there are indications that there are negatives in Ahnold's life that are about to come out of hiding.

I suppose you wanted us to throw over Bush for his negatives too, huh?
Hi folks,
I only lived in the US for my first 2 years of life so forgive my ignorance. How is the winner decided in this election. Is it a simple majority-wins scenario, or do the voters use preferences like they do in some other democratic models?
Regards
Dave

McClintock can only help one of two men become the next governor of mexifornia and he's not either one of them.
McClintock has to decide if he will be the man that helped the golden state, (which right now is a foreign country),back into America or; be the man who greased the slide into the arms of mother mexico.
The mecha gang wants to "reclaim" the whole southwestern United States for their father-land. McClintock can stop that or help it. GET OUT TOM!

Popular statewide vote wins. The winner doesn't even need to have above 50% of the vote.

his negatives Oh, Bush is pro-abortion, gives interviews to mags like Oui, & has one of the biggest financiers of the coffers of the worldwide abortion/population control movement in his camp, too, eh?

The negatives the poster was referring to appear to be referring to his personal life, not his positions on the issues.
I should also note that, if you think a true-blue conservative would never give an interview to a "girlie" mag, you may want to reconsider. William F. Buckley was interviewed a number of times by Playboy. Is he now a liberal too?

If Schwarzenegger is at 25% and 35% of Registered voters are Republican AND assume that Schwarzenegger is not pulling ONE SINGLE Independent or Democrat - that leaves 10% of Republicans pulling for Tom. While he is at 13%.
I really doubt your 5-10 percenters is an accurate statement.
Do you have some numbers?

Another victory for the liberals and their candidates. Arnold and Bustamonte. It looks like a sure thing. Another liberal will be governor.

1) Oui and Playboy are hardly comparable publications.
2) I seriously doubt that Buckley described drug use and group sex in his Playboy interviews. Now, that would truly surprise me.

The second part of the special election will list candidates running to replace Governor Davis if he is recalled. You still get a chance to cast a vote for one of the replacement candidates, even if you voted NO, not to recall Governor Gray Davis, or you do not vote at all on the first part of the recall. Now, if the recall election was being held today, and you had to make a choice, for which one of the following candidates would you vote?
(Randomize choices)
33% Cruz Bustamante, Democrat
28% Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican
12% Tom McClintock, Republican

3% Arianna Huffington, Independent

Not so fast. McC got 50% of the vote in the last election. If he repeats, which is quite possible, Arnold and Busted will split the other 50%, and McC will be governor.
AND it will begin newer age for the GOP, just as did the feats of Reagan and Gingrich.

In post #12 I referred to frontrunners. I should have done it in #11. Anyway, I hope they lose and McC wins, but I'm not hopeful.

Oh, Bush is pro-abortion, gives interviews to mags like Oui You have to remember that when Arnold gave that interview, other current conservatives like George Bush and Billy Graham's son and successor Franklin Graham, were abusing drugs and alcohol.
Thirty years is a long time. People change.
