Freepers call to action re. Terri Schindler-Schiavo. Make a complaint against Judge Greer:
Various ^ | August 28, 2003

Posted on 08/28/2003 5:20:42 AM PDT by Ragtime Cowgirl

Freepers, we may be able to help Terri:

I made some phone calls today and have the ULTIMATE PHONE CALL for registering a Complaint against Judge Greer. I can't reveal my sources but this is the phone number for a few pay grades above J. Greer.

Call the: Judicial Qualifications Commission at

#1-850-488-1581. I am complaining to them tomorrow that J. Greer isn't God, that he's been in the husband's corner since Day One, he doesn't care a wit about Terri's parents or her husband's attempt at medical neglect, and I'd like to know if Greer can be recalled or impeached.

HE SHOULD HAVE OR COULD HAVE HONORED GOV. BUSH'S REQUEST TO ASSIGN A GUARDIAN AD LITEM to represent Terri's interest instead of once again, taking the side of the husband. Judge Greer is from the Sixth Circuit Court, Pinellas County.

Oh, and ping everybody you can think of.

From summer:

"..do a separate thread asking people to call this phone number FV provided. This could get a guardian appointed if the judge is tossed off the case for BIAS."

8 Jeb Bush intervenes for Schindler-Schiavo -   WND | 8/26

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has asked a judge to delay setting a date for removal of a feeding tube sustaining the life of a brain-disabled woman, Terri Schindler-Schiavo.

In a letter, Bush asked Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge George W. Greer yesterday to keep her alive until a court-appointed guardian can "independently investigate the circumstances of this case and provide the court with an unbiased view that considers the best interests of Mrs. Schiavo."

(WND article excerpts, cont.:) "On Friday, the Florida Supreme Court refused to intervene in the case, clearing the way for a Sept. 11 hearing in which Greer would set a date for removal of the feeding tube.

Terri's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler of Gulf Port, Fla., have been locked in a decade-long legal battle with their son-in-law over the care and custody of their daughter, who suffered massive brain damage when she collapsed at her home 13 years ago under unexplained circumstances at the age of 26.

***The bitter dispute over Terri's lack of care became a major euthanasia battle five years ago when her husband Michael Schiavo petitioned the court for permission to have her feeding tube removed, claiming she is in a persistent vegetative state and would not want to be kept alive "artificially." The Schindlers and a number of doctors and therapists believe she could be rehabilitated, but the courts have consistently sided with Schiavo and his lawyer, right-to-die advocate George Felos.

Florida Judge Rejects Governor's Bid to Help Terri Schiavo
By Jeff Johnson
CNSNews.com Congressional Bureau Chief
August 27, 2003

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Florida Circuit Judge George Greer Tuesday rejected a plea from Governor Jeb Bush to appoint a guardian ad litem to represent the best interests of Terri Schindler Schiavo, a 39-year-old disabled woman who suffered a brain injury in 1990 under questionable circumstances. Bush had intervened Monday after receiving 27,000 email messages asking for his help on Terri's behalf.

"I read [Gov. Bush's letter] because it came from the governor and I respect his position," Greer told the Tampa Tribune. "Beyond that, it is going in the file."

As CNSNews.com previously reported, Bush wrote Greer Monday asking him not to remove the disabled woman's feeding tube until a new guardian ad litem could "independently investigate" her condition. In the letter, Bush referenced the "fine balance between Mrs. Schiavo's right to privacy and her right to life," which Bush noted are co-equal under the Constitution.

"To err on one side is to prolong her existence, perhaps against her wishes and to continue the debate," Bush wrote. "To err on the other is an irrevocable act that affords no remediation."

But Greer told the Associated Press that he no longer has a choice in the matter.

"Frankly, I think I'm operating under a mandate from the 2nd District Court of Appeals," Greer said, "and frankly I don't think I can stray from that mandate."

In that same interview, however, the judge contradicted his own assessment of the limitation on his authority by stating that he was "not inclined" to appoint a guardian ad litem.

Michael Schiavo called Gov. Bush's intervention on behalf of Terri "crazy."

"The governor has deliberately twisted the facts in this case in an apparent effort to kowtow to his right-to-life political supporters," Schiavo told Tampa Tribune reporter David Sommer. "This has nothing to do with him. He should stay out of it."

Schiavo - who, for five years, has been seeking judicial approval to end his wife's life by denying her nutrition and hydration - also accused Terri's parents of manipulating their Catholic faith to keep their daughter alive.

"I believe in God and so did (?) Terri," Schiavo said, speaking of his still living wife in the past tense, "but they are out to push it on people... suddenly they are on a religious kick."

Judge refuses motion for hearing to set 'death date'

Greer also denied a motion Tuesday to hold an immediate hearing to set a date for the removal of Terri's nutrition and hydration tube. The hearing will be held, as previously announced, on Sept. 11. At that hearing, Greer will also rule on whether Schiavo may legally prohibit Terri's priest from visiting her.

Schiavo's attorney, George Felos, had also petitioned the court Monday to prohibit doctors from caring for Terri's current fever, labored breathing, vomiting, diarrhea and a "substantial infection."

"Given the imminence of the ward's death, further treatment (other than comfort care) for the ward's infection and other medical problems is unnecessary, unwarranted, inappropriate and futile," Felos said in an emergency motion, adding that Terri, "should be put back in hospice and receive comfort care and die in a peaceful setting."

Greer denied that motion, as well.

Michael Schiavo is using "privacy" as an excuse for denying Terri every contact from the outside world, even flowers. "One sign of the case's nastiness is the Schindlers' complaint that Schiavo limits their visits with their daughter. They also say he has refused to allow doctors to examine her, refused her antibiotics and needed dental work, refused to replace a broken wheelchair so she could be taken outdoors and refused the delivery of flowers from a friend to her room on her birthday."

"Her teeth are fine; she doesn't eat," Michael Schiavo said. "Why take her to a gynecologist? She was supposed to die months ago. I don't want her room filled with flowers from strangers or right-to-life activists. Even though she is vegetative she has a right to privacy."

I thought Gov Bush very eloquently made his case here, in this part:

To err on one side is to prolong her existence, perhaps against her wishes, and continue the debate. To err on the other is an irrevocable act that affords no remediation.

That is one thing that floors me .. This Judge should have long ago appointed an independent Guardian Ad Litem and not left her husband as her sole guardian .. especially since there are questions about her husband with abuse and the fractured bones that were reveled in xrays of Terry.

Everything I have read .. this Judge seems hell bent on having her killed

I know that Mr. Schiavo has tried to ban Terri's mother and family and priest from seeing her.

But, I don't know how a court could prevent doctors from ordering therapy, speach therapy (which is often actually swallowing therapy) and most especially oral nutrition.

Judge Greer has been with the husband since day one. A guardian ad litem would have been fair for Terri and her parents. Her parents love her but they are treated as the enemy. I'm ashamed this is happening in Pinellas County.

Judge Greer will not appoint a guardian ad litem. I have phone numbers from the phone book for the Clearwater Courthouse and all the guardianship phone numbers. He husband held a presser today and was very flippant about Jeb's letter and called the emailers a "bunch of right to lifers."

Hubby is looking a little nervous but with a pal like Judge Greer who is no Judge Moore, Terri has until the September 11 hearing to decide the date her starvation begins.

Here are the phone numbers: courthouse - 727-464-3000, guardianship numbers: 727-582-7563, 727-582-7771, and 727-464-8700. We can at least call as friends of Terri and voice our concerns.

I'll be watching very closely! I bet a large number of fellow Americans would be interested in this trend, if that's what we've discovered, fellow Freepers.

MHG, you must not read many of the political threads on Free Republic. In fact, the overwhelming majority of Freepers are solidy Bush-bots, as some call them. They would do anything the Bushes say. Many of those same people are now pushing Schwarzenegger for governor in CA. Many just want to get people elected with an "R" after their name and do not really concern themselves with conservative policies and moral issues.

Charles Crist is supposed to be a true-believer in conservatism. He ran against Senator Bob Graham one year on a conservative platform. One would never know that he is not a Democrat considering how his office has acted in Terri's fight.

Virginia is the first and only state in the country with a law allowing involuntary euthanasia

That was then, this is now. Hugh's wife moved him from Kentucky to Virginia, no doubt because of this law. I wonder how many states today have joined Virginia.

Wasn't Finn's parents living in VA? Was that why she moved Hugh there? Then she found out that he could be starved to death there, and she could collect his insurance. I am not sure if she researched early on and found that she could starve him much easier in VA than she could KY. Interesting and tragic story, but it was clearly a case of INSURANCE over morality.

Hey you guys!
Don't give Terri's volunteers a bad rap! They have given up a lot of income (not worked to help, therefore no paycheck for periods of time), have given up all their spare time, given up sleep and a care free life, have spent tons of their own money, trying to help this case. Many have had to put their own family on the back burner for a while to win this case for Terri. Terri's case is much bigger than just saving Terri's life.

The volunteers have marching orders from the legal beagles, and they do (almost) what they are told. We gotta save Terri's life, you know.

In the end there will be no secrets. I doubt it anyway.

You guys have been great volunteers for Terri, too, and we all appreciate it!

Keep up the work! Terri needs all of our help!

OK. We've got to keep focused on whatever we can do to help Terri out. We know that this is more than a fight for just Terri, it's for all of us really. This is a fight between right and wrong, good and evil. This is a fight for humanity, for life itself! This is what our forefathers fought for. This is what we will fight for. Even though it sometimes seems hopeless, think of how long Terri and her family have been fighting for this cause. Most of us are just now coming to terms with how immoral our society has become. It seems to be bigger than we are, but we are forgetting that we have a greater Power on our side.

Yesnettv, it sounds like you and Phenn are the two closest to Terri's situation. Could you or she give us any sort of direction in which we may be able to help? We want to help in any way we can. If we can keep badgering the media, the elected officials, or whomever or whatever, just let us know. Let's vow to keep Terri and each of her supporters in our prayers. United we stand, divided we fall! Let's keep fighting the good fight, until we triumph!

Ok let's do that.

Let's start by finding out if Greer has any more power to do anything in this case. And if he does not, which judge does?

Then let's find out everything we can about that judge and try to come up with a way to influence him. Every human being has a group around them that matters. A church group or a golf club, I don't care which. I am proposing that we find a group that matters to the next judge with any power, and do something to influence that group.

If we do nothing but organize protests, let's make them personal - for the judges. Let's fill the golf green with people with signs and graphics. I don't really see how we have anything to lose by irritating them at this point, but I am certainly open to feedback. This is a group effort and I am just making a suggestion. Feel free to tell me if I am completely losing it. :-)

Ohioan,
Do whatever it currently says to do under "how you can help." Keep checking back there each day, because it may change. Encourage everyone you know to take those actions, and to keep checking back at the site. Ask everyone you have ever met in your life to help out and ask them to do the same! Ask everyone to talk to attorneys they know about some possible legal angle that Pat and her team may not have thought of yet.

Continually badger the media in your area to do live interviews with the family. The greatest interviews have been on www.thepowerhour.com and www.infowars.com - alternative media. And Juditial Watch. There are others.

Call and fax all the people on the website continually. Figure out a question to ask, ask it, ask who you are talking to, get their commitment to get the answer and immediately call you back. When they haven't called back the next day, call the same person back the next day.

This case will either be won by the public calling out and being irate, or smoothe legal dealings.

If we all keep working, we can save Terri. We have to. If we don't we each might be put to death the same way, worse than a sick dog.

Thanks for helping!
Fay

OK, thanks. Those are all really good ideas and we will keep on. I need some clarification on one thing, though, in this paragraph:

Call and fax all the people on the website continually. Figure out a question to ask, ask it, ask who you are talking to, get their commitment to get the answer and immediately call you back. When they haven't called back the next day, call the same person back the next day.

Which website do you mean? Terrisfight or another one? I guess it must be getting late, 'cause I just didn't follow which one you were referring to.

So the question then becomes, is there any rational course of action that is effective against this evil?

Just read your post and the posts which were responses.

The conviction in the posts must be apparent to anyone who read them.

Since we don't know which way to turn, maybe we should again ask God to send our feet along the paths in which we could do the most good for Terri and our society.

Right now I feel the way I sometimes feel in the late afternoon. I'm tired, but I know I need to prepare several different meals for different diets in our household. During the morning I was too lazy or busy or unorganized to do a few small things that would have helped toward dinner (soaking potatoes in water to leach out minerals, etc.) Because I was remiss in doing my part, I really don't feel I deserve God's help, but I ask Him for it anyway.

I'm glad to know we are supposed to pray as little children because, otherwise, I would be too embarassed by my immaturity to ask God's help.

Somehow the meals get prepared.

The meals are simple. No one is impressed with them in any special way. I did not get a special feeling of inspiration while pulling them together. But, looking back, I know God helped when I asked Him.

Isn't there a phrase, "step out in faith"? Well, it's best to step out in faith, but I think it's all right to crawl or toddle out in faith.

Continually badger the media in your area to do live interviews with the family

Have you read much about the Christine Busalacchi case?

"It was the latest attempt to sway public opinion in Missouri's most recent right-to-die case: On February 4, the state supplied videotape to St. Louis television stations which it said showed that Christine Busalacchi, severely brain-damaged almost four years ago, is no longer in a persistent vegetative state. Missouri is trying to keep the 20-year-old woman's father, Pete Busalacchi, from moving his daughter to another state."

"..Missouri state health department which supplied a St. Louis probate court judge with the same 13-minute videotape of Christine Busalacchi given to the media. The state is asking the court to accept the tape as evidence that her condition has improved,. As of this writing, the tape has yet to be formally accepted.

"All four St. Louis television stations covering the hearing asked for and received copies of the tape. All four aired about 60 seconds of it, each linking the tape to testimony asserting that Busalacchi could respond to comments from hospital staff members and that she could move her legs."

"...the state is attempting to block Busalacchi's efforts on the grounds that he has already made up his mind to permanently remove Christine's feeding tube.

"It has chosen to fight in what even state attorneys admit is an unusual fashion. Busalacchi's case is the first time the state health department has attempted to submit videotape as potential evidence in a legal hearing."

Now I am not sure of the population there, but it is a large city. As I recall from other readings, the nursing staff caring for Christine took out full page ads in the largest newspaper there as well, begging people to help save Christine's life.

As it turned out, Christine's father did not have to move her to Minnesota to kill her. But these efforts above were not even about killing her, but about letting her father move her to another state. Is history meaningless or does it show a path? Missouri is smack in the midst of the bible belt, and St. Louis is a very conservative and religious community.

Yet all of these things failed to save Christine.

Which brings another idea to mind...

What if protestors carried lightweight baby nursery decorations? Is it possible to contrast Miserly Mike's treatment of his baby with his treatment of Terri? He is most likely spending his money on baby food and stimulating decorations for his child, but he won't even spend Terri's own money on Terri. He will probably send his child to school to learn, but he won't let Terri be taught. He will let his child play out in the sunshine, but he won't wheel Terri outside. He didn't make his newborn baby feed itself, but he insists that diabledTerri should be starved because she can't feed herself.

How would Miserly Mike feel if someone took his child from him, placed the child in a guarded room with no decorations and refused to feed it?

We could consider appealing to emotion rather than reason. It's too bad there aren't a lot of videos of Terri before her collapse. They kept playing videos of Laci Peterson on the air, and I think that helped the public to empathize with her to see her as a person like them.

Is there a way of acquainting people more with the pre-collapse Terri? They may be more willing to identify with her.

MarMema,
Perhaps we could bring the IRS in to look at Schiavo, Felos, and Greer's income and the tax returns they have filed.?! Has Terri's trust tax return been properly filed? I tend to doubt it since many are not.

Greer is not ruling the way he has ruled for "atta' boys" at his social club. What he is getting out of this may not be financial, but he is getting something which is significantly benefiting him. What? We need to find out. It may even be that he and his family have been threatened in some way if he does not rule in Schiavo's favor. We don't know.

The way he has ruled, he will not be elected again. Terri's supporters will see to that. He is not dumb. He knows it.

It may simply be his ego, knowing that if this case goes down the way he wants, his ruling will be sited for as long as 100+ years in cases. Perhaps he wants to personally be the one to set the precedent to kill disabled people.

The media pictures I have seen of this man tell me he is evil, little beedy eyes. People I have spoken to who have been priviledged to attend hearings have stated to me that there is a really eery feling of evil and forboding in his courtroom. Greer? Felos? Schiavo? The presence of the devil himself? I don't know.

I only know one thing. That is we need to think outside the box and rally every avenue of help we can think of.

Those of you who routinely attend religious services, could you please on Saturday contact your minister, rabbi, or priest, bring them abreast of what is going on and ask that they make what is going on with Terri part of their Sunday service. Beg if you have to. I never ask anyone to beg unless things might be desperate. We just might be desperate here.

If we lose this case, "Aunt Nellie", who can't get along very well, who still lives at home, with people to help her, and she can't remember to eat unless someone fixes a plate and makes sure she eats it, will simply waste away because there will no longer be a reason to feed her. I exagerate to make a point (I hope). That is against the 10 commandments. The basic tenents of the 10 commandments are basic to all the faiths.

Let's take off running to help Terri.

If you can come up with additional ways to help terri, we would love it!

I don't know the answers, of course. I am simply *tired* of them killing people like Christine and Terri, and looking for something new.

And I am becoming convinced that neither public opinion, emails, letters, or videtapes are going to make a difference for Terri. It's wonderful to wake people up and see the responses from newcomers, but that doesn't help Terri.

Time is short so let's be blunt with each other here. The judge has the power to make the difference, not the tv station. Public officials have been able to make little headway in this battle - witness the states of both Missouri and Virginia trying to save someone and losing.

A personal interview from Oprah bedside with Terri would not help at this stage, imo.

And look at our few successes - who saved Michael Martin? Not the tv stations, not the governor, but the judges. Same for Robert Wendland. It's the court and only the court.

The way I see it we have God and prayer, then we have a judge to influence somehow, and then we have international kidnapping. Those are the choices.

Based on the original statements from larazza in the initial Federal hearing, and the timeframe he gave to ammend the complaint, I believe that our team would have met those requirements and filed the motions, or ammendments on a timely basis. If they had not been filed, I think someone would have called me in a panic. Noone did. I had been continually told that we would meet the deadline. I have no reason to believe we did not. Timing of filings in legal cases is strategic. I believe that this was filed with a specific strategy in mind, tho I am not sure what it exactly was.

We had to wait until Greer's death ruling on Wednesday to know what xyz would be.

A legal case is an unfair chess game. I hope our side of this unfair chess game has enough connections, stamina, knowledge of the law, etc. to win this. I think we do. I pray we do.

But, who would have thought that a theoretic impartial judge, Greer, after hearing all the testimony would have ruled to murder Terri? Go figure?!
We gotta keep up the fight!
Thanks for all your help!
