Geoghan killed in prison (Boston Herald)
Breaking news/by Eric Convey
Saturday, August 23, 2003
Former priest John Geoghan, a notorious pedophile whose case sparked the clergy molestation scandal of the past 18 months, died this afternoon after being attacked at the state prison in Shirley.
``The perpetrator has been isolated,'' said Kelly Nantell, a spokeswoman for the state Deparment of Corrections.
``Our investigation continues,'' she said.
The matter has been referred to the Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley's office.
Geoghan was serving a nine-to-10 year sentence at MCI Shirley for allegedly groping a boy at a Waltham swimming pool.
More than 140 people have claimed they were abused by Geoghan, claiming they were fondled or raped at locations ranging from church rectories to their own homes.
Geoghan would become one the most notorious pedophiles in the country - not only for the extent of his rampage against children but because relevations about his case led to the unraveling of secrecy within the Archdiocese of Boston.
Bernard Cardinal Law's cordial letters to Geoghan, mixing discipline with praise for his priestly service, that pushed many victims from disbelief to outrage.

So if some freak rapes my child and gets off w/o the death sntence, I'm supposed to go "inside" to get them? I suspect that your attitude toward children is why God has not blessed you with any. Have I got that right?

He was a scumbag, but he didn't get a death sentence. But he should have. Child rapists should be executed for their good and the good of society. It would help clean off some of their karma (i.e. sin) and the world would be a safer place, since people who molest or rape kids do it repeatedly.
It's actually a crime that all child rapists aren't executed.

Christ forgives all sinners. When they are sorry. Not when they are not sorry.

I think that executions should be public. Not only public, but sooner than 15-20 years after conviction, after millions of dollars and hundreds of appeals by the ACLU.
I also think that public flogging and the stocks would be useful punishments for lesser crimes rather than time in county jail.
Are we on the same wave length or what? There are so many reasons why this is rational.
1. WAY cheaper.
2. Punishment is over quickly so the perp gets another chance at being an honest citizen right away.
3. No prison "culture" where they learn how to be better criminals, get raped, etc.
4. Wannabes get to see the perp beaing flogged - public pain and shame will be a much better deterrant than jail time.

Geoghan was serving a nine-to-10 year sentence... What can be said of a culture that relies on criminals to carry out true justice?

Are you alarmed by my frankness? I am tired of these perverts, be they priests or not. The fact that they are priests, wolves in sheeps cloth, makes it worse.

From an ancient book of great wisdom:
"Even saintly persons are happy when scorpions and snakes are killed."
(On the occasion of a great demoniac tyrant and torturer being killed.)

You can always wait until he gets out, right?

Maybe they could even take away their color TVs.Not long ago in Britain an inmate (I believe a murderer, but I could be wrong - violent crime for sure) filed a lawsuit because he was being denied hardcore pornography. The EU court decided in his favor - that it is a HUMAN RIGHT for prisoners guilty of violent crime - even violent sex crimes - to be able to view pornorgraphy.
Sick or what?

They are abusing their authority. You're not in the priesthood are you?

Look malice up in the bible sometime.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was a unique sin that could be committed by rejecting Jesus as the Messiah when He was present for His earthly ministry. The sin also was a national sin (peculiar only to that generation) and the penalty for that sin occurred in 70AD.

Let me see, a pedophile 'Pennywise' drapes himself in religion to abuse children (i.e., attempting the steal/damage their souls).
He made a choice to dwell in satan's playground for 30 years(being ruled by the flesh) and use the innocence of children to feed his demons.
I'm not surprised that satan put him on the hellbound express since he can no longer serve him in society. How fitting that another demon punched his ticket.
Just a late nite observation.

I don't care what the Bible says.
Not everyone is in the Judeo-Christian line of thought, you know.

God does amazing things. Yes, but he leaves a lot for us mere mortals to carry out per his instructions.
It's not impossible to believe that he might have walked away from this after his prison sentence and somehow managed to do some good in the world.
Yes. But, it far more likely he would have victimized more children if he got the chance.
I believe God works miracles like this all the time. Two wrongs do not make a right.
WWJD?
And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
This thread is so ugly.
Ghastly
Simply ghastly.
