Pancakes on Wednesdays
Yes, we now have banana pancakes....

Welcome to Pancakes on Wednesdays.

Wednesday August 20, 2003

Here is an amalgamation of trivial facts and seemingly useless data.

Do not forget to hit the hyperlinks.

We have links, lots of them.

Look it up!

EDACIOUS

Relating to eating.

That, at least, is the literal sense of the word, since it comes from the Latin verb edere, to eat. But even in Latin it had a stronger sense of voracious consumption and that was carried with it into English. It was brought into the language—surprisingly recently—by classically educated writers at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It never really caught on and is now almost extinct, perhaps because voracious is a better established and more vigorous-sounding alternative. The Roman writer Ovid created a maxim in his Metamorphoses: “Tempus edax rerum.” time devours everything. As a result, in its rare appearances the word is most likely to be linked with time. Thomas Carlyle used it in this way when he referred to events “swallowed in the depths of edacious time.”

A man walks into a Silicon Valley pet store looking to buy a monkey. The
store owner points towards three identical looking monkeys in
politically-correct, animal-friendly natural mini-habitats.

"The one on the left costs $500," says the store owner.

"Why so much?" asks the customer.

"Because it can program in C," answers the store owner.

The customer inquires about the next monkey and is told, "That one costs
$1500, because it knows Visual C++ and Object-Relational technology."

The startled man then asks about the third monkey. "That one costs
$3000," answers the store owner.

"3000 dollars!!" exclaims the man. "What can that one do?"

To which the owner replies, "To be honest, I've never seen it do a
single thing, but it calls itself a Consultant."

Hey, we had our first IHOP open last summer. It took forever to build. The contractors were 2 little old ladies.....they knew their job, but were slow. We get commercials for all sorts of businesses that we don't have. Under construction...

Another attempt.....I think I've seen this one before....

Marriage Communication

While attending a marriage seminar on communication, Tom and his wife Peg listened to the instructor declare, "It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other."

He addressed the men., "Can you describe your wife's favorite flower?" Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently, and whispered, "Pillsbury All-Purpose, isn't it?"

The rest of the story is not pleasant.

"Glad to hear that you were able to escape the blackout "

Could have used a stack of those cakes last Thursday/Friday. Although there was plenty of "liquid refreshments" there was little in the way of food.

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Pray all our valiant troops are kept safe from harm.

P.S. Checkout my profile; picture of the "PigRigger bunch" has been posted. Littlest one is all the way from China! Talk again soon.

Labor of love swells troop support

By Beau Whittington
August 19, 2003

WASHINGTON (Army News Service, Aug. 18, 2003) -- One 12-year-old’s love for her uncle stationed in Kirkuk, Iraq, has swelled into a ground roots campaign to show support for the troops fighting the War on Terror.

It’s also caused her a lot of work.

In April, Jenessa Alexis Largent, of White Bear Lake, Minn., was thinking a lot about her uncle Sgt. 1st Class Mike Chamorro and decided she wanted to do something special in his honor.

“At first I wanted to wear a yellow hair binder around my wrist to represent the yellow ribbons of the past,” she recalled. She quickly found the binders were too flimsy and looked for a better answer.

She decided to maker herself a bracelet.

The rest of the story
