Happy Tuesday FR friends and FRPets. Gizmo here. I just returned from a two week vacation...visiting grandparents and relatives. Coming home...gosh Codee and FredtheCat demanded lots of attention....from ME and mom and dad. The plan was for a special profile today....BUT...the computer is acting up....Codee is acting up....FredtheCat is acting up and .....well...maybe I am too....SO....We've changed this thread to.....HOW DID YOUR PETS SPEND THEIR SUMMPER VACATION!!!!!!! Hope you stop in and visit and pay tribute to our very special friends....we're counting on the Finest Pets today...to tell us about THEIR summer vacations...never mind what you did...THEY are what counts! Please check in and tell us how YOU or your "family" spent their summer vacation!!!!

My dog refuses to go outside to enjoy the summer unless she has to .. I think she is spoiled from the AC

We just got airconditioning this year...our "kids" are in doggie heaven (as am I). Traveling with Giz...I have a pillow on my lap and he lays there with his face in the airconditioner (for five straight hours) The days of reading in the car are over LOL!

Hey Roscoe...So glad you survived the kennel. The only time my folks put me in one they also asked that I be "groomed" (for the first time) It was humiliating...when they picked me up I had these little bows in my hair...all this girly girl stuff....I've never been the same...

Open Pet Thread! Very cool for a story!

This past July, my friend was out jogging at the Delaware Canal in Rocky Hill, NJ. Just off the path, she saw an owl on the ground. He was moving around; but not flying.

Knowing the animal geeks my family is, she called us.

We grabbed supplies, flashlights, large blanket, animal carrier, pocket knives and went off to Rocky Hill.

With more people approaching, the owl stumbled toward the slope leading off into the Delaware Canal.

My husband and I went down the slope on either side of the owl and concentrated on getting it out of the water. The only thing we could do was use a large fat stick and hurd it up onto the slope.

Once on the slope I through a blanket over the owl and held the blanket down while my husband and I cut away the sticker vines that were around the blanket.

The slope. All that brush you see at the bank edge is sticker bushes. I was on that fallen tree:

We got the owl to The Raptors Trust. He ended up being a Great Horned Owl!

He is still recovering. I hope he can be rereleased. But if not, he can stay at The Raptors.

My kids were jumping up and down thinking we were the coolest ever. They were calling all of us the Wild Thornberries on the way to The Raptors Trust.

Protect and guide our Military that are now being called to duty, strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Good morning to youse guys, Miss Dutchess and Gizmo...)

Below is a a photo of my Mom and Dad's little guardian loves...Barkley and Pig...they spent their summer vacation helping Grandma take care of Grandpa as he went through chemo and radiation treatment. Along with performing their usual duties, they were always ready to give a little extra love through a hard time.

Their special TLC was an important part of the healing regime, and my Dad is now done with the cosmic rays and has been given the good word by his MD that the cancer is in remission.

It's been an especially hot summer in Phoenix, so both critters have staked out the coolest spots in the house...on the tile, beneath the AC vent in the kitchen.

The heat doesn't stifle their devotion to their duties, however...Barkley goes on daily yard detail with Grandma, helps her take out the trash and watches over everyone.

Pig's job is just to be beautiful and sweet, sleep with Grandma and blow reveille much too early.

I've been really grateful for these animals' presence in my parent's lives...in their sweet natures, they give far more than they receive...and boy gosh my goodness, do they receive...spoilt is what they are...but, it's a good kinda spoilt...)
