California Republican Assembly gives overwhelming support to Senator McClintock over last year's pick
Burbank Senator Tom McClintock on Sunday received the endorsement of the California Republican Assembly (CRA) for his candidacy for governor in the October 7 recall election.
The CRA is the oldest and largest Republican grassroots organization that played a key role in last years come from behind victory in the Republican primary. The endorsement was at a special endorsement vote of the California membership during the convention National Republican Assemblies held this past weekend at the Burbank Hilton.
"The California Republican Assembly has consistently been in the trenches working to bring Californias bureaucracies back under control, and roll back the regulations and taxes that are choking our economy," said Senator McClintock. "The endorsement of the CRA provides a great boost to my campaign. The grassroots will be instrumental in getting out the vote in the upcoming election."
Senator McClintock has spent 20 years in the public policy arena fighting for fiscal reform. Last fall he received more cross-over Democratic votes, more independent votes and more total votes than any other Republican on the ballot. He also received 103,000 more votes in his run for Controller in November 2002 than the Republican top of the ticket.
Senator McClintocks campaign for Governor will focus on rescinding the tripling of the car tax, voiding the $42 billion in outrageously overpriced electricity contracts and reforming the workers compensation system.

In reviewing your additional posts, while I disagree with you as to the value of McClintock, your other points regarding Simon are very interesting and certainly worth consideration.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have appointment with H.E. Pennypacker... ;-)

*L* That reminds me of the line in the forgettable "Last Action Hero" in which the arnold character misstates "his" name as "Arnold Braunschweiger."

"... it will be McClintock that gets the vote out to pass the Davis recall."
Unlikely. And any votes McClintock gets out, will vote for McClintock, not Arnold. :)

There is a time for one to stand up for principle and there is a time for one to bide his time and wait for the moment. The latter is one of those times. That's my philosophy, "sometimes you have to rise above principle." };^D)

Do us a favor Tom, drop out and throw your support behind Arnold, thats what a REAL leader would do. You have no chance of winning and you know it.

With the Democrats making public threats of shooting Arnold, perhaps it would be best that we have a backup candidate in the race

Conservatives Say McClintock is Their Man!Because holier-than-thou conservatives don't mind losing over and over and over...

It's NOT that they " don't mind losing over and over and over ... "; they actially prefer it to the alternative. Somehow or other, losing, in their minds, makes them somehow " better " .

Gee, just another 56 days of these threads.........
McClintock is the most qualified candidate, bar none, but he lacks name recognition and, more importantly, campaign funds!
He does not have statewide appeal. Arnold does. This is not a GOP primary, so I see McClintock's role as a "nudger" --- hopefully, he's able to 'nudge' Arnold a bit to the right.
From everything I've read and heard about McClintock, he is a solid Republican who will likely throw his support to Arnold when it becomes apparent to him that Arnold is our only hope to regain the governorship.
In other words, should Cruz's polls make it look like a tight race, McClintock will drop for the good of our party.
Of course, doofus must first be recalled, or everything else is moot!

But the thing is that the holier-than-thou McClintockistas won't understand that.
They believe that "High Hopes" McClintock ACTUALLY has a chance of winnig the governor's office.
Anyway, they either live in an alternative world or are in high-power crack (or both, for that matter).
They'll have plenty to cry for on Oct. 7, and I'll gladly reach the handerkerchief for them.

Hey I just noticed how when you drag your mouse cursor over a posters name it displays their FR born date. I'm wondering how I managed to escape detection and deletion. I must be a clever fellow. ;-) Anyway maybe Arnold will draw off the democrats and a fella like McClintock can sneak in. Secretly though I'm hoping the porn star wins it because I really do think that California deserves her. Not you nice conservatives living in Califiornia, but California in general. Oh well.
To: El Conservador
Your description of them is bull's-eye accurate. I am sick to death of hearing "RINO" tossed around as though Arnold is the anti-christ!
They neglect to note that it is Pete "RINO" Wilson's judiciary that has permitted this recall election! Thnak God, for our 2-term governor RINO Wilson!

I think it is foolish for anyone to just brush off the RA endorsement. I know, I know, foolishness is the order of the day on FR. But these are folks that have been around for a very long time; and before Rove handed the keys to the state party to Parsky, they had tremendous influence in CA GOP political affairs. They still do in conservative CA GOP circles.
This is first and foremost the death rattle for Bill Simon.

Do us a favor Tom, drop out and throw your support behind Arnold, thats what a REAL leader would do. You have no chance of winning and you know it.Of course he know's it! Arnold has the money, and to boot, he's a movie star!! Tom's values and hard work at maintaining those values hasn't gained him enough money or popularity so "OFF" with you Tom and let the people with fame take the seat! You are just a lowly concerned politician with a vision to get California out of it's demise financially and do it prudently without delusions of granger!

I used to think as you do.
Now, however, I am not so sure...
This position now seems to me to be sort of like the classic old quote:
"Richard Wagner's music is better than it sounds."
-- Mark Twain
Tom McClintock has "built a better (political) mousetrap" - as it were, and now we just have to wait until the world beats a path to his door - or so his supporters have argued.
Perhaps he is a better ANALYST than anyone else currently running for Governor.
And, perhaps he more INFORMED than any of them.
And, perhaps he even has better ANSWERS to the financial problems which plague our fine state than anyone else in the race.
These traits are perhaps NECESSARY conditions to be a great governor, but they are not SUFFICIENT.
A governor must also be able to IMPLEMENT these ideas - to motivate others to do what must be done, and it is perhaps THESE skills which Tom McClintock lacks.

I like Tom but I hope he drops out if he doesn't get the support to win, thats what I call leadership, otherwise he is no better than the self serving Davis.

I like Tom but I hope he drops out if he doesn't get the support to win,....It's not my issue to the extent it is to CA residents but where is the support lacking? From what I have learned Tom is very well informed on CA's issues and has an agenda in place to resolve them. I hope for the residence of CA that Arnold isn't an off the cuff "want" as Jesse was for MN in '98.
Thankfully, we now have a Governor with substance. Who know's maybe the Jesse effect promoted a vote for substance here in MN.

These traits are perhaps NECESSARY conditions to be a great governor, but they are not SUFFICIENT.That is a disheartening statement to say the least. You may be right however for being a leader and visionary appears to be a trait in a politician which is no longer seen by the public as their biggest asset.
