If you will, please remember this tiny baby in your prayers. Hes the grandson of a very dear friend of mine. Logan was born on July 25. His due date was in October, making his mommy 26 weeks along, being born 3 months and 3 days early.
Logan was 1 lb 9.4 oz when he was born and is now weighing, as of this morning, 1 lb. 8.3 oz. The little guy is now 12-1/2 long.
Hes a real trooper and is fighting with all his little body can fight with. His Grandma said that hes starting to recognize his mommy when she comes in the room and hears her voice. She said he tries so hard to open his eyes, and starts kicking his feet.
I asked my friend if there were any specific prayers, other than the obvious
and this is her reply
A prayer of thanks for the miracle called "Logan.
On a personal note, Ive read the emails daily from my friend. Ive known her for years, Ive heard her talking about her family for years
but Ive got to tell you that Im SO impressed with how her children have all banded together in support. What an incredibly wonderful and loving family.
Father God, we lift up Logans little body to you. We pray that you can strengthen him hourly, daily, weekly, until hes grown enough to go home with his precious family. We ask for guidance for the doctors and nurses who are caring for him. We ask for strength for his parents and extended family. Thank you so much for the gift of life. In Jesus Name, Amen

Gram negative bacteria have a thinner cell wall than gram positive. Many antibiotics work by mimicking peptidoglycan, which is the building block of the cell wall in bacteria. If you make the bacteria build its cell wall with fake peptidoglycan, it cannot build the cell wall and is easier for the immune system to kill. This type of antibiotics is the traditional penicillin based family of antibiotics. Other antibiotics inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria.
From wikipedia : One of the several unique characteristics of Gram-negative bacteria is the outer membrane. This outer membrane is responsible for protecting the bacteria from several antibiotics, dyes, and detergents which would normally damage the inner membrane or cell wall (peptidoglycan). The outer membrane provides these bacteria with resistance to lysozyme and penicillin. Fortunately, alternative medicinal treatments such as lysozyme with EDTA, and the antibiotic ampicillin have been developed to combat the protective outer membrane of some pathogenic Gram-negative organisms.
That's about all I remember. I took my last micro class in 1999, so it's been a while. Medicine is really advanced now, however, so whatever infection it is, the experts have probably treated it many times before. Prayers for Logan and a speedy recovery.

Thanks for the cartoon! I'm technologically challenged, so I appreciate any cute things that come my way...including little taquitos with hot sauce all over them.

ROTFL! Great and happy news (funny, too - and makes for good pressure relief if you know what I mean)! I'll be looking forward to the next round of good news. In the meantime, prayers will still be comin'.

*waving* Hi Nana! 8^)
When my son MissileMan had the Croup and was is Hospital at age 2 I went to visit him every day and he was always mad - mad as heck. Well one morning I went stopping at the nurse's station before heading to his room to ask how he had faired the night. The nurses started to tell me when they realized he was quiet. With a look of half shock and half fear they both bolted from behind the counter to his room. Naturally, concerned I followed closely behind them. He was fine but the Hospital equipment wasn't. I later found out he had escaped from his restraints 3 times, had removed his 3rd IV, torn up his 3rd Mist tent and was working on disassembling his second misting machine. They discharged him to me then and there, figuring if he was well enough to do all that then he was well enough to go home. Knew at that point that I had an budding Engineer on my hands. MissileMan is now an Aerospace Missile Engineer.
May Logan be as persistent at getting well and foretelling his future.

We have us an UPDATE! :)
Just a quickie!...... we're all VERY tired.
The doctor came in late this afternoon and said that the culture for the gram negative infection DID NOT grow. That means one of two things, ... either the lab contaminated the first one OR...we've just experienced another miracle with this kid!! You choose!
His treatments have been cut to every 4 hours. He still does not have sats over 92% with help of the oxygen, but they are weaning him little by little. Only low grade fever a couple of times today.
LOGAN IS BETTER! He still has those little sick eyes, but he's turned the corner I'm sure. The doctor is cautious to say that..... but everything that they are doing, i.e cutting back the oxygen, longer periods between treatments... leads me to believe that. He is still tired and fighting when they wake him. No, tired isn't the word...exhausted is! But with all the prayers being offered, and well wishes too....Logan will soon be back home in his own little world being the happy child that he normally is.
Beth was sent home to go to bed... doctor's orders. She has not closed her eyes for 48 hours and she's sick too. In fact, she was sick before Logan. If ever God placed a child in the care of a young woman who would love and care for a special baby.... he did it with her and Logan. I wish everyone could experience first hand the mutual love they have for each other that I am priviledged to see on a daily basis. It's something very special indeed.
So my friends..... that's it for me. I'm going back up early in the morning. I'll report back then.
Love, thanks and hugs....
Nana
THANK YOU LORD!!!!!!
YOU GO LOGAN!!!
