The Hebrew language did not have a word for "sphere." I had forgotten it when I posted yesterday, but there is indeed a Hebrew word for "ball," kadur. Isaiah himself used it in another verse (22:18).
Personally, I believe that God sent Isaiah to deliver a message to Israel, but the message was not about astronomy.
To: bondserv
I searched Strongs for the word sphere and nothing came up.See this post; you could search Strong's for "ball."

H1754
duòr
dure
From H1752; a circle, ball or pile:ball, turn, round about.
Appears in:
Isa 22:18
Isa 29:3
Eze 24:5
Isa 22:18
18 He will surely violently turn H6801 and toss H6802 thee like a ball H1754 into H413 a large H7342-H3027 country H776: there H8033 shalt thou die H4191,
Isa 29:3
3 And I will camp H2583 against H5921 thee round H1754 about, and will lay siege H6696 against H5921 thee with a mount H4674, and I will raise H6965 forts H4694 against H5921 thee.
Eze 24:5
5 Take H3947 the choice H4005 of the flock H6629, and burn H1754 also H1571 the bones H6106 under H8478 it, and make it boil H7570 well H7571, and let them seethe H1310 the bones H6106 of it therein H8432.
Good thing the Holy Spirit didn't use H1754 in Isa 40:22, because then evo's would mock the Bible for saying the earth burns like the sun because of Eze 24:5.
H2329
chuòg
khoog
From H2328; a circle:circle, circuit, compassive
Isa 40:22
22 It is he that sitteth H3427 upon the circle H2329 of the earth H776, and the inhabitants H3427 thereof are as grasshoppers H2284; that stretcheth H5186 out the heavens H8064 as a curtain H1852, and spreadeth H4969 them out as a tent H168 to dwell H3427.
Begone Flat-Earth Mockery.

If you do that, then for the sake of the others on the system, please do not post a dramatic "Goodbye!" message. This convinces the troll that he is winning the battle. There is, perhaps, no message you can write on a message system that is as damaging as an announcement that you are leaving because of the hostility that the troll has kindled.
OOps!
I guess you didn't read the 'Rules'!

That faith is growing. And some threads here drive more people into it.

I now advise others who are interested in avoiding science thread flame wars of your decision in the matter and suggest that they avoid confrontation with you. Make sure that you point them to #332, so that they may READ what I posted........
As for myself, I will not be posting anything to others about what you MAY or may NOT do in the future. I'll leave the future to take care of itself.

Evidence:
#332
Oh... kinda like the NASCAR "Gentlemens's Agreement??"
I do not, on purpose, live in an area of town that has a Homeowners Association. The rules, laws, of my town are sufficient for me and I need no OTHER, non-elected people agreeing on how I should use my own property. The GOVERNMENT does a FINE job at that now, thank you very much.
If people are worried about FLAME WARS, I would suggest that they not participate in one. (think TARBABY here)
I think it was Samuel Clemens that observed........
If someone invites me to dinner, I can claim I've just eaten,
If someone invites me to walk with them a bit, I can claim that I am tired.
But if someone invites me to a fight, then, by golly, I just have to oblige them.
JR has 'rules' listed here in FRland and HE enforces them, as HE sees fit.
Works for me.....................
Conclusion:
#359
Thank you so much for sharing your decision neither to sign-on to the agreement nor to comply with our guidelines to avoid flame wars on science threads.
Observation:
Is this how 'E' folks look at ALL the 'science' data?

The importance of staying on message. So very well put.
I think the whole debate about the mechanics of the physical world we live in are fascinating, but your point illustrates how Satan can use even the saved to do his work.
As long as the Creation debate rages, Christians will have the baggage of that debate to carry before getting to what is important.
To: Elsie
LC, you and I go way back on these threads. We rarely agree, but you haven't been a disagreeable person. Why not take another look at the
AGREEMENT OF THE WILLING and give some more thought to this whole thing? I'd like to have you on the side of the good guys.
To: 50sDad
But beating a Cold, Rational, Scientific Person over the head with the literal interpritation of Flood and Pre-Flood Creation will place a unneeded barrier between them and Jesus Christ. And that is something I don't want to do.
What if this "Cold, Rational, Scientific Person" is alREADY been "beaten over the head" by the mass media 'flood' of information(?) about Evolution, so that any MENTION of 'christianity' brings to mind 'Bible-thumping Creationist Book Burners'?
What to do THEN?

I guess, if you believe some of my Brothers and Sisters here seem to be spouting, we simply consign him to Hell for failing to believe Creationism. If he insists on his heresy, then WE begin to TYPE in CAPS.
[/SADNESS]
And I have to notice that you use the Capital honorific to Creationist, but not to the word 'Christianity.' I may be thick...which of the five sides of this arguement are you on?

You know, back in my Dungeons and Dragons days (Gasp!) there was a cartoon in the DM's Manual. Two characters are beating the tar out of each other, and a third opines, "Boys! This arguement is totally pointless!" To which one of the two combatants replies, "Well, it better be! We're both Clerics!" I ask you folks, is this the view of the Faith we want the unchuched to see? Can't we all get along and go about the First Business of saving people's souls, and put this elaborate passionate arguement on the back burner?

Please look at my post #308 here and tell me how left controls the science of trigonometry that is used as basis for measuring distances to stars? I find such concepts reminiscent of the view that logic is simply a tool of White Europeans to subjugate the rest of mankind. Evidently, some people are incapable of understanding that somethings just are, and are not evidence of an ulterior motive.
