Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger voted for a 1994 ballot measure to deny social services to illegal immigrants, his campaign said Sunday -- offering the first glimpse of the actor's stand on a major policy issue.

The Republican has promoted himself as the candidate in California's gubernatorial recall who can best appeal to the state's politically and ethnically diverse electorate.

These non-voters/non-supporters yet want to tell the rest of us that we are RINO's, but yet we vote in every election and probably 99% of us vote straight Republican. Something is wrong with this picture!

Worth repeating. Over and over and....

You know, The Arnold is not THE issue.

For me, the rush to approval of him IS. Would you be so easy on me? I think not. I think we must begin to turn ourselves 'round. The ocean is wide & deep-we have a long journey & are far off course. Who is at the helm really matters!

Storm warning: Louis Sheldon, chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition, said the actor "would be a darker villain than any he has faced in his movies. . . . It's hard to imagine a worse governor than Gray Davis, but Mr. Schwarzenegger would be it." Just another wing nut.

Sadly, I think the guy is well intentioned & just foolish about this personal principles-weak is the word which comes to mind.

I agree with you: re the illegal alien issue. A candidate who came out with a proposal to abolish freebies for illegals would win in a landslide. What's more, the rest of the states would see it, and would start cracking down on illegals, as well.

"Only an idiot would call Arnold a "socialist," he's a tight-fisted fiscal conservative. Their argument against him is that he's socially permissive.
Sorry, but someone who supports massive government spending on social programs, and the creation of even more such programs, is a socialist, because the funding of such programs must come from the salaries of working people, of whatever income; and the operation and maintenance of these programs must be by a bureaucracy of government employees (i.e., bigger government), which means that they can create legislation to enlarge their functions and power (so as to more "equitably" redistribute society's wealth, which is what social programs are all about). Arnold is for all that. Ergo, he is a socialist. A socialist can be against illegal aliens. Hell, Hitler was a socialist, and he was against a whole variety of people. But he was still a socialist.

You speak like someone who would compromise your principles at the drop of a hat. That's scary, because anyone who would do that has no honor, and is thus capable of anything, even the worst things. ("Your honor, I was only following orders when I gassed those little children and put them in the ovens. Really, I was only following orders. It wasn't my idea.")

Oh please. Good people? Voting according to thier conscience?

Good Republicans don't run around branding everyone that doesn't view the world how they view it a RINO. Good Republicans don't selfishly threaten to not vote in an election if they don't get their way. Good Republicans don't by their own action or omission of action allow Joe Davis to stay in power or be replaced with governor Bustamante just to make a "point." Good Republicans don't cut off their nose despite their face. Good Republicans put the good of the party ahead of their own personal good.

The chance that illegals will be deported is not good. But there is no reason to give them social services. That is total madness.Arnold is going to dodge the issue as long as he can, but being a legal immigrant I doubt if he supports illegals. As much as I would like to see McClintoak win he doesn't stand much of a chance with Arnold getting all of the press. I'll make my final decision on voting day.Anything to get rid of Davis and keep Cruz out. Cruz would be worse than davis, if that is possible.

If he does, this guy is probably working closely with the Mcclintock's campaign desperately trying to get the base vote.

If Louie the Grifter says that, that is the seal of approval for Schwarzenegger.

Sheldon is a jerk, and really needs to go on to earn a real living as a real preacher.

"-- "I don't run around every day with a gun in my hand. So I want kids to understand the difference: One is make-believe, like we do in movies. But in reality, I'm for gun control. I'm a peace-loving guy."

Yes make believe people mow scores of make believe bad guys in movies = guy who carries to protect his kids. I do believe Ahnuld has a CA carry permit. The gun might not be in his hand, but it probably is strapped to his waist.

Arnie probably will try to govern from a fiscally conservative point of view until the Democratic special interest juggernauts run him down. Once the Trail Lawyers Association, the Teachers Unions, and the Government Workers Unions get their claws in him it will be go-along to get along. I think Arnie is a guy who fundamentally wants to be liked. He'll probably have no backbone against those guys.

Socially, Arnie prolly doesn't care about anything that doesn't affect HIM. He doesn't give a rat's as- about abortion because it does not impact him. He won't back CCW because he already has a permit (or could get one in a heartbeat).

Arnie will be better than Davis, but not a whole lot.

Your conscience allows you to support pro-death candidates, mine doesn't.

Your attacks on those who are acting according to their conscience are despicable.
