Arnold Schwarzenegger's bid to recapture the California governorship for the Republicans could dramatically change the face of their party in a major electoral state that is one of the Democrats' biggest political strongholds.

"If Schwarzenegger is able to win this and able to successfully govern California, he plants an inclusive Republican flag in a state that Democrats have taken for granted in the last several presidential election cycles," said an unidentified Republican Party official.

I haven't smoked any, ahem, grass, since 1969. I probably smoked it three times prior to that, because my roommate got ahold of some. For the record, I DID inhale but I couldn't stand the taste/smell. As well, I have never tried any other "drug" whatsoever.

Yes, most of us who came of age in the sixties/seventies tried something at least once. I also sampled the liquor in the homes of the adults whose kids I babysat for when I was about 14 (my parents had ZERO liquor at home).

But to further confuse everyone, I have voted REPUBLICAN in every election since turning 21 in 1972. How's THAT rattle everyones' cage? Yeah, I'm no good, a sinner, a heathen.

Recognizing Aaaahhhnold's ethnic heritage can be helpful. Austria is a 'socialist-lite' country, as are Germany, Poland, and France.

This socialism is a result of what was (at one time) rule by benevolent royalty eventually converted to demi-democracy. Same expectations of Gummint, different players at the head.

However, after the French Revolution, the social contract which was observed by the Christian, if not Catholic, royals, (for the most part), became a secular-based system and deteriorated substantially from there. It allowed for the rise of Marxism, a perversion of Catholic social principles, and is now having its way, through different means, with the US Constitution. Thus the Supremes' rulings on sodomy, e.g.

Aaaaaahnold is, in fact, not a Republican. He is a European Social Democrat of the vaguely Christian persuasion. He cannot be defined in terms of the classical American "Democrat/Republican" party labels.

He is certainly electable--but the obvious preference for conservative Republicans and Democrats with common sense is McClintock.

He's a successful businessman-- the experience last year's CA gubernatorial nominee had. Arnold also is savvier than Simon and is more charasmatic. Simon was the nominee last year and only gets 7%-- less than even McClintock! It takes more than a policy wonk to be a good candidate and a good officeholder.

And, by the way, it gets worse: our own State's RINO-in-Chief, Tommy Thompson, Governor-for-lack-of-a-real-job for 16 years, left this State the same way he found it: abortion-friendly, highly-taxed, and governed by a large and growing bureaucracy of nincompoops whose qualification for entering Gummint service seems to have been failure to achieve 80 on an IQ test. Thompson personally oversaw the increase of State employment by 50%. It goes without saying that he left the State in a financial mess when the recession came--and it's going to get nastier. Now he's Sec'y of HHS and brags about his budget-spending power and authority, most recently by announcing a $125million plan to tell American kids to 'go outside and play' rather than making like couch potatoes... The difference between RINOs and Democrats was best summarized by Chesterton: "The business of the Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected." Of course, you understand that AAAAAAAHHHHHHnold and Tom Thompson self-describe themselves as "conservatives," and the Press is happy to oblige that delusionary dream.

Harry Truman of the pendergst, ummm, organization, given his own close call, could not disagree with the people, pardoned the sainted James Michael Curley so he could serve his term by popular demand. They (if you know what I mean) could not do to James Michael what Judge Seabury did to Jimmy Walker in New York. Maybe Billy should be mayor.

Pay attention to the wording of the poll questions. It s NOT will you vote AS or, if the election were held today, would you vote for AS. Knowing that they will hear a lot of people say that it is too early to decide, they ask might you instead of will you or some such distinction.

Yeah, but on the issues that count, Schwarzenkennedy will appoint limp-wristed baby slashers at the same rate as Bustamente. What's the diff? If Deukmejian were running, that would be a different story. McClintock is like Deukmejian and not like Schwarzenkennedy or Bustamente. If the choice is Schwarzenkennedy's judges or Bustamente's there is nothing for a social conservative to choose from. Let Bustamente take the heat. Social conservatives have no obligation to vote RINOs into office. We will have to be bought like anyone else and the prices are high, very high.
