Here me now and believe me later, my friends: all these conservative orgasms over Arnold Schwarzenegger are - like the "Gorbasms" liberals experienced over Mikhail Sergeevich Gorbachev - fake. I know that (R) next to Schwarzenegger's name excites the White House, but his own words prove he's not a conservative. I call this "The Hollywood Syndrome," and it happens every time some actor-type says anything even remotely conservative. I'm not trying to cold shower anybody here, but don't look to anyone in Hollywood to validate your political ideas.

The American Prowler's George Neumayr detailed Arnold's politics in his article "Here's Arnold!" Quote: "[H]e spoke in generalities and banalities about his plans for the state. To the extent that he said anything, he sounded not like a fiscal conservative but a moderate Democrat. He said that he wanted businesses to come back to California so that the state government could collect enough tax revenues to provide social programs. This is the sort of obtuse comment middle-of-the-road Democrats always make, forgetting that businesses are leaving the state because they are tired of paying high taxes for those big government social programs."

More: "He has told the press he is 'very liberal' about social programs, supports abortion and homosexual adoption, and advocates 'sensible gun controls.' His entree into politics last year was a proposition Democrats endorsed because it raised state spending for what amounted to state babysitting - before-school and after-school programs that cost the state up to $455 million a year. He has complained openly about the party's conservatism.... Talk magazine described him as 'impatient' with the religious right.... [H]e expressed disgust with the Republicans who impeached Clinton. 'That was another thing I will never forgive the Republican Party for,' he said. 'We spent one year wasting time because there was a human failure. I was ashamed to call myself a Republican during that period.'"

Does this sound like "the Next Reagan," as some people are calling Arnold? Hardly. This guy may be the next actor elected governor of California, but that's where the similarity between him and Ronaldus Magnus end.

But.... ho wdo you expect to win with the GOP vote split 3 or 4 ways. The Dems will be split 1 or 2 ways and they WILL win.

This is a special election. Democrats and the unwashed middle don't turn out for non-scheduled elections. this is about RECALLING a loser Dem that everyone hates. Conservatives are totally motivated and liberals are totally dispirited.

The turnout in this will be very conservative and there will be plenty of GOP votes to go around (once liberal Arnold collapses).

That's true. Washington is sooooo far to the left it's almost docking at Vladivostok; Oregon, although not as bad as Washington, isn't that far behind. And California? Irreparably damaged. California is on its death bed. It will die, but perhaps it will rise from the ashes like a Phoenix, but when it does, it will either be a Mexican protectorate or a new frontier. I pray its the latter, but my bets are on the former.

Well conservatives are just as apoplectic about him. He's a RINO liberal, there is nothing enw about his politics. Look at who's supporting him, Richard Riordan and Pete Wilson, sheesh. Ned I say more. This is a major RINO alert.

One good reason: it costs money. It costs Dems "walking around money" to get out the vote, money that won't be available in the November general election if they spend it in special elections. But this is the election for GOV, and 2003 doesn't have any federal candidates, so the Dems will use their walking around money now, and blow off 2003

Show me some evidence of that. Because I have a huge amount of evidence that RINO nominees have been losing election after election in California. We've run lots of them and they lose far worse than conservatives.

Tom McClintock came within a fraction of a percent of winning the controller's race last year and he fits that box nicely.

The other thing to remember about McClintock is that he and Issa would have fared much better had Arnold not joined. The momentum to rid the state of Doofus was already in full swing. And no dem joined until Arnold, too.

No way a rock-ribbed conservative can win in Kookyfornia, sadly. It isn't going to happen. Take what you can get and build on it. If it's Ahnold, fine. If it's Simon, fine. McClintock, better but it probably won't happen. But better ANY of those than Bustarhymes or, God forbid, Davis again.

If your ship's heading for the rocks, and you can only turn the rudder a few degrees right, turn it to buy yourself some time instead of saying "Doh, steering's jammed, since I can't turn all the way right I guess we'll just run aground."

I don't often agree with you, but I am inclined to do so here...Although AHNOLD is a social liberal, he's probably just what Kalifornia needs fiscally. Plus, there is the possiblity that he will have "coattails" and pull some more Republicans in to the state legislature, so that some conservative legislation may get passed in spite of the Austrian Wonderboy. MAYBE his coattails are long enough for a veto proof Republican resurgence in the state legislature ~I know, I'm dreaming~ and hoist the RINO by his own petard!

Social issues wise, The Terminator won't change things for the state, still be a gun control paradise, etc. He may wish to live down the "nazi" mantle that has been recently hung on him from various areas and actually stop further controls from progressing.

He has a great weapon to use against the Dems and it's a simple message: "DEMOCRATS have screwed things up...Republicans cannot be blamed for this, we don't have enough of a voice to make a dent...so GIVE US A CHANCE! WE CAN'T DO ANY WORSE...." And he has the right idea to keep the whole thing a California thing. He doesn't need either GW Bush, or Bill Clinton or ALGORE or anybody not from California stumping around and muddying the waters. The Dems have their necks in the noose...but it might help a little if that thing with the enviros maybe having a hand in the shuttle disasters to leak out some....could swing things back to the right a little to have those idiots cringing some....

Rush isn't in this state, he doesn't have to live with the decisions made here, but he's quick to tell us what dim bulbs we are because we think Arnold would be a much better governor than Davis.

If CA "true conservatives" would STFU once in a while and simply SUPPORT A CANDIDATE WHICH CAN DRAW THE MIDDLE. How dense can "true conservatives" be? Are you that mathematically challenged? In a state where you are outnumbered, you have to be able to appeal to moderates and some democrats in order to win an election.

I've listened to Rush for more than 10 years now, and have found him a little hard to take lately because he has changed - a lot. I've got a theory about him and some other political/pundit types - its not complimentary at all, but it fits an all too convenient model.
