The prosecutor in the Kobe Bryant rape case says he has slam-dunk evidence to prove the NBA superstar's guilt, it was revealed on the eve of the hoopster's first court appearance today. Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert made that strong claim in court papers arguing against making public the police affidavit written to justify Bryant's arrest early last month.

This is a much less wide-ranging case, though -- as another poster said, it's not a whodunnit but rather "what happened." It seems to me at first blush at least that it was probably good that the DA took his time before charging Bryant (i.e., he didn't immediately jump to conclusions). Who knows, though...we really don't know much yet.

I doubt it would be in the original arrest warrant if she just came up with it today.

Absolutely correct-it has been reported -more than once-that Kobe's legal term is attempting to find dirt on the victim. Posters were not smearing Kobe, but posting information that was out there.

I haven't been able to watch much tv today, but I heard the breathless reports on this topic as if it were "new news", when it really isn't.

This was part of the arrest from the beginning--the false imprisonment charge that the DA decided not to file, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out she was saying he wouldn't let her leave. In fact, that has been reported openly as part of the bellhop story all week.

I didn't claim to be positive of what actually happened, just what she CLAIMS happened. There is a huge difference

We get pulled into this slimey stuff because of the media; the media sucks -- and to justify their very existence, they sucker punch US with sensational headlines which turn out to be untrue, and then they lecture us on the morality of it all.

If we learn nothing else from this little dog and pony show, we should never forget that the media and their "stringers" are bottom feeders that can make any one of us look as guilty as sin -- and get paid for doing it.

My big "thang" is actually hoping to actually SEE a trial, any trial, where everybod obeys the rules........LOL.

Well Howlin I agree with you on your above statments...I hate to see someone tried in the media..it is just like a mob screaming for blood or sharks on a feeding frenzy....like the OJ or Westerfield Trial, Like the Scott Woodring fiasco, the facts need to be sorted out in a court of law so we don't end up with a real injustice based on biased attention getting media reports...

I also don't believe the authorities or either defense or prosecution should leak news to the media... As for keeping a victim's name withheld, if the law does that it should do the same IMO for the accused...what happened to equal rights ?

A good case needs no leaks and no prosecutorial rhetoric, prior to the actual trial. There are rules about procedure, and I for one see many of them being stepped on.

Then you'll be relieved to know that is not the case here. The prosecutor made these *court filings* two weeks ago and the JUDGE just released them.

I would call that proper procedure.

Not to mention going to a guest's room after 11 PM in the hotel where you are EMPLOYED. That's grounds for termination in the hotel I work at. It's called fraternization... A big no no.

Me, too. And sharks is a good word for them.

And I hate to see NOW get in on this; and I hate to see all the other "agenda driven" groups get in on this.

But the monster has to be fed. So we'll keep hearing the facts according to the media, whether they are true or not. As long as they get their bucks and face time, people's lives don't matter. I can't decide who's worse, the people who leak this information we're hearing or the media who sucks it out of them.

BTW, Fox has a camera trained on the hallway to the courtroom (this really is a ridiculous frenzy) and I really like that potted palm tree.

Hmmm... Some consider it an injustice NOT to reveal the names of the accused. Isn't this what happens in some countries and we object to secret charges and proceedings? hmmm.......
