Bishop-elect cleared of allegations

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 5 — The clergyman seeking to become the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church has been cleared of 11th-hour allegations, church sources have confirmed, NBC News’ Jim Avila reported Tuesday afternoon. The vote by bishops to confirm the elevation of the Rev. V. Gene Robinson, which had been postponed Monday for an investigation into the surprise allegations, was rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

. . .well there is plenty of that in the Church; which is to my point on the commonality of the 'Liberal disease' that has corrupted so much.

In addition to the Pope, Catholics have a 'devotion/practice to the Mass' without any over-attachments to 'personalities'.

Episcopalians copy/share much of the Catholic; but they could not duplicate that.

So, whereas priests may fail; or just come and go. . .the Mass itself, remains. . .and those that share in it.

Our diocese has churches in Fort Collins and Colorado Springs. (index ) I guess if you're near Denver proper, both are pretty far away.

BTW, since I'm 3rd generation cradle Episcopalian, how DOES one correctly make contact preparatory to a conversion? Phone or letter? Should we visit around local parishes first? Can we expect to go into an RCIA class, or as "high" Anglo-Catholics is it a matter of making confession/reception into the communion?

Phone or letter should be good for a first contact. Most parishes would have someone dedicated to RCIA and/or education. You would most likely need to attend RCIA, which is usually one night a week in the fall, leading up to the Easter Vigil. Your baptism would be considered valid, but you would need to be confirmed prior to receiving communion, which is what the RCIA is for.

Hence the policy of moving priests from parish to parish every four years -- which became a convenient cover for some bishops to move the pedophiles around. It's a great system as intended -- we're not at Mass to be entertained by a particular priest, but to share in the sacrifice.

What's the "Anglican Use Church"?

It's a special liturgy/parish for Anglicans who become Catholic. Instead of the "new" Cathoic Mass, the Book of Common Prayer is used for the Mass, with minor modifications. This means that Anglicans can convert to Catholic but not lose the liturgy they are familiar with.

You can't make that claim stick. This is only in America and somewhat in Europe. In Asia & Africa the church is doing just fine. And that's where the bulk of the 75 meelion members reside.

Actually, they wisely left such matters to civil and criminal courts. High profile people are often subject to allegations of one sort or another.

Thanks for the humor, it's appreciated. I have tried to stay out of these things since religion can be so different for everyone.

The past Supreme Court decision on sodomy and the attacks Sen. Rick Santorum received for stating the obvious did stimulate my aggression concerning these issues. Where I used to generally leave the issue of homosexuality alone to die on the vine, I realize these people are not going to be satisfied until they force their belief system on all of us, and I'm not willing to do that.

It's not a deep religious issue to me, as it is for others. It IS, however, something that is capable of doing great damage to our society and any legacy we hope to leave to future generations. Vicky Gene Robinson should never be allowed to be in a position of leadership for the Episcopalian church.

I also believe this church associated group, Outright.org, is exceedingly harmful to the church but it is disastrous to individual children who are struggling with sexuality and simply growing up. Anyone who does not realize homosexuals recruit kids is not paying attention.

We believe that the New Hampshire election is unfortunate for everyone in the church because it forces a political rather than a pastoral resolution to our disagreements. It simultaneously funnels the creative energy of the faithful away from mission into internal conflict.

I am sorry the Episcopalian hierarchy has placed being PC or popular with special interest groups over loving and following the Bible. It is just so sad

Loving the sinner and dispising the sin is put into the dumpster within this perverse and horrid action. These men love the sin. Deeply. And remind me of the church leaders long ago, the pharisees, who broke with the spirit of the law, crushing its purpose and enraging Christ.

From now on, when I hear the word Episcopalian, I will think of dirty church leaders who fell in love with the sin and ended up lifting up the act of homosexuality as behaviorally acceptable as a result.
