I think you're in the clear. The AME is an offshoot of the Methodists in the early 1800s. See here. Nothing to do with the Episcopal Church USA, except very distant history (the Methodists split off the Anglican Church in England - so did the ECUSA - and the AME split off the Methodists.)

Your church may have issues of its own, but this isn't one of them (for which you all should praise God, fasting, as they say.) As far as I know, the AMEs are far more Biblically oriented and conservative than the Episcopalians.
