Berkeley -- The bank robbery suspect who was shot dead by Berkeley and Oakland police was a recent UC Berkeley graduate who ran a legal services business, campus officials and a relative said Monday.
Glennel Givens Jr., 28, of Oakland, graduated from UC Berkeley this year, campus officials said. He also was a suspect in a series of takeover robberies of banks in Oakland and San Francisco, police said.

Will he be described as "an honor student", with the requisite junior high picture?

...at one point lived at the African American Theme House, a co-op near campus on Prospect Avenue...
Is the theme cops and robbers or just robbers?
When the Daily Californian, the UC Berkeley student newspaper, published a full-page ad on the last day of Black History Month two years ago criticizing reparations for slavery, Givens was among a number of African American students who denounced it...
Guess he had his own way of getting reparations.

Givens earned an undergraduate degree in ....Apparently at the Berkley campus a major in one field of endevor offers a minor in bank robbery.
Apparently Mr. Givens didn't put enough effort into his minor.

Will he be described as "an honor student", with the requisite junior high picture? It's always "honor student" and/or "aspiring rapper".

Givens earned an undergraduate degree in African American studies, according to university spokeswoman Carol Hyman.

African American theme house?Yeah. It's right next to the Ronald McDonald House. A place to stay while awaiting the reparations checks.
Howdy, Loddy.

Martin Ricard, also a freshman, said simply, "my soul feels destroyed." However, a letter by Junior Glennel Givens, Jr., more angry than hurt, struck a different chord and brought a new issue into the debate. "White presence among Blacks," Givens said, "not only creates an uncomfortable environment, but often their ignorance, jankiness, and insensitivity when dealing with us creates a very unstable atmosphere."
In the following days, the Daily Cal's opinion pages were rife with wildly varying attacks: black students protested the ad, white students took offense at the rebuttals, and many, including Horowitz himself, claimed that the apology represented a threat to free speech. "The Daily Cal may disagree with these views but it has no right to censor them," Horowitz said. "Indeed, it has a positive responsibility not to censor them." Horowitz bandied about "censorship," when in fact, nothing he said had been censored. A more logical claim is that the Daily Cal's vow to be more sensitive may cause conservative views to be quashed in the future.

Bank robber had just earned a degree in African-American studies???? What do they TEACH in those classes? Any white professors teaching those classes? Do they give grades? Do they use books published in the US? Wondering minds might ask.

I'm glad he's dead, frankly. My wife works in a bank. I don't think much of people who rob banks. I think they should be executed. He got his just reward.

Article quoting Givens
In response to a Horowitz anti-reparations ad:
However, a letter by Junior Glennel Givens, Jr., more angry than hurt, struck a different chord and brought a new issue into the debate. "White presence among Blacks," Givens said, "not only creates an uncomfortable environment, but often their ignorance, jankiness, and insensitivity when dealing with us creates a very unstable atmosphere."
A criminal and a racist.
