Liz ... with the old cream

Mystery goo jar opened

By GARY O’SHEA

A SEALED jar of 2,000-year-old white cream was opened yesterday after being found at a Roman ruins site.

The goo which could be make-up still has fingerprints of the last person to use it.

Archaeologists excavating the site in Southwark, South London, said the find was “of major significance”.

The fist-sized cylindrical tin box was opened by experts at the Museum of London.

Specialist Liz Barham described it as smelling “sulphurous and cheesy”.

Curator Francis Grew said: “We are in completely uncharted territory here.

“To find one in such good condition, sealed and with its original contents will raise huge interest around the world.”

He said the substance — which will be chemically analysed — could be face cream or face paint.

The football pitch-sized site dates from 50AD and has the remains of two small temples, a guest house, statue plinths and a stone pillar.

Last year excited experts found a stone tablet with the earliest- known inscription of the Roman name of London.

The site will disappear under a shopping complex this summer.

The writer couldn't help the "Encroachment of Man Dig" at the end of the story. Yep, the advancement of mankind is the worst thing that ever happen to this little rock.

The first Oreo. Didn't really catch on until they changed the outside from tin to cookie.

Of course! Why on Earth would these Commies want to preserve some pile of rocks dating to the time of Christ anyway??

You know, it's not a sin to suggest that historical sites should be preserved for the sake of their mere existence.

Snidely

"Specialist Liz Barham described it as smelling “sulphurous and cheesy”."

Smells like the lasagna I made last week. I need some new cook books.

Could it be the "good old fashioned medicated goo" from Traffic's "Medicated Goo" (©1969 S. Winwood/J. Miller)?

So would Liz after 2000 years.
