July 25, 2003 -- Months before she overdosed on medication in her parents' home, Kobe Bryant's young accuser reportedly overdosed in her college dorm, it was revealed yesterday.

News of yet another hospitalization could help Bryant's defense team cast doubt on the 19-year-old woman's credibility.

One thing for sure. He is trying to atone for his mistake with his wife. The grandiose nature of the gift (no way he can take it back, it is hers for keeps) tells me that Kobe has either told her the truth and she has decided to forgive him after he shows a little more contrition or he has not told her everything and is trying to cushion the blow or she has agreed to stand by him to keep him out of trouble but only because she does not want this other young lady getting Kobe's money because she wants it. It will be interesting to see how Mrs. Bryant behaves after this case is resolved.

The reason I also bring this up is because I always wondered why men try so hard to make up for mistakes with things instead of good behavior and why women will accept an apology as being real only if some large expensive gift is offered (understanding that each couple is different)

Thanks, but I got that already. I was hoping for some elaboration.

If you were attempting to imply that that would be my position (in your post #98), you couldn't be further from the truth.

For instance, the judge excluded sworn testimony by three other women who said Smith assaulted them in the 1980s, including one who said Smith raped her when she was drunk. The jury dismissed the woman's bruises as injuries sustained elsewhere. Everyone, but the jury knew he was guilty.

He, like Bill Clinton, was innocent of all charges. Kobe's fans said so.

Whether she went to the news conference on the suggestion of his lawyers or free will, it was a stupid idea.

Stupid idea? You must be kidding. Whether or not she ultimately decides to forgive him or to divorce him, how is she benefitted by further damaging him (and his earning potential) at this critical juncture.

But, if her claim is true she is being raped twice, once by Kobe and his defenders.

That is what fans do.

Regarding some of your points... I'm quoting the vail daily here..

There was no disturbance reported by other guests, security was not called, and the young woman was not in "hysterics" ?

"2. Hotel guests saying they heard noises" untrue. "3. Hotel room trashed." untrue... the alleged rape was not reported until noon the next day, by that time the hotel room would have been cleaned. "4. Torn clothing." not reported... she also would have already gone home, slept and changed. "5. Physical evidence." only reported by one friend of sorts. The only initial reports were that "Abundance' of evidence exists, source insists" and that was reported before Kobe held a press conference admitting that sex took place... Regarding these bruises, I guess we will find out at trial. If there were signs of an assault.. there are going to be pictures taken at the hospital. Otherwise, I would be inclined to believe that somebody who has attempted suicide twice would have no trouble inflicting injuries upon themselves as they have in the past for whatever reasons.

It won't get that far.

And the fact that this girl is turning out to be both, a little bit nutty, and (allegedly) a lotta bit slutty, makes one wonder, if he won't bargain the charge down to misdemeanor assault, so Kobe can plead out and say it saved him the pain of a trial, and the Prosecutor can save face....

You heard it here first. No more than 6 mos. Probation. Just enough for the prosecutor to salvage face, enough to make Bryants risk of rolling the dice unnattractive.

Make that raped, not rapped. Who knows he might of rapped to her during the process. OMG

To my knowledge, Kobe is one of the few NBA players who hasn't yet made a rap record.

Untrue! He did make a rap album... but it was never released... it's listed on allmusic.

Read the first threads and news stories immediately following the incident about what happened. It was reported several times that she left the room upset and crying. That several hotel employees were witness to this fact. The same can be said about room be in disarray. The complaint was the following morning and room service was not done. Kobe was still a guest of the hotel and was waiting to go to surgery. So, it is still possible the room could have been in disarray. The hotel employees are under a gag order now.

Don't you find it a little bit curious that all the early witnesses to the event disappeared or what the evidence really is? I read the interview with lab techs doing the testing at the crime lab and he sounded like he had a lot of evidence to process. He mentioned torned clothes, buttons, etc...

As I said before there seem to be a heck of a lot of first hand witness testimony when the story first broke but it seems to have disappeared.

You got to be kidding, I am not the least bit jealous of a ball hogging NBA star. Whose only claim to fame in life is that he can put a round ball in a round hole.

No one with a name ever asserted anything of the sort. The hotel employees as private citizens cannot be "gagged." The police sources for the Vail Daily have dismissed everything that you site as fact as being untrue.

My wife’s sister knows a guy who had a roommate from Colorado who once dated a girl who one day met a man in a bar whose son went to school with someone that used to be friends with a girl from Vale whose best friend knows a guy who was working in the hotel that very night and saw everything. He claims that every one of us on this thread, including me, has no idea what we’re talking about.

Yes, they can. If they're material witnesses, they're under the gag order.

They're not on the witness list. So they haven't been called as witenesses.
