July 25, 2003 -- Months before she overdosed on medication in her parents' home, Kobe Bryant's young accuser reportedly overdosed in her college dorm, it was revealed yesterday.

News of yet another hospitalization could help Bryant's defense team cast doubt on the 19-year-old woman's credibility.

Don't use quote marks unless you are making a direct quote. That is not what I said.

"A man can have a quickie with his wife."

You're so old-fashioned.

That is truer than you can know. About half this site has become enablers of the wefare/regulation state and if you are "old fashioned" like me, you get excoriated for it.

"Conservatives" on this site advocate everything from group rights to new entitlements to suspension of rights.

Call me old fashioned, I like the way the criminal justice system used to work before jury tampering (by jury selection) was the order of the day and group think was all the rage.

Uh, she's 19, an adult, however immature most 19 year olds might be.

Kobe is only 24 himself, he's younger than I am even. He MAY have been shtupping girls since age 14, but who knows, and I'm not sure that's relevant. Of course, if they find out he's been active since then with no prior complaints of violence, that looks better for him.

I have never characterized this sex act between Kobe and his accuser as a "quickie" - someone else did. I find that bizarre.

What I find bizarre is that implicit in many people's posts is the belief that all it takes for motive and pattern for a man to rape is to BE A MAN(or to be black, or an athlete, or worse in their minds a black athlete--the horrors!)

I mean, if Bryant were charged with robbery, people would probably laugh out loud. Now, if they have a video of him robbing someone at gunpoint then maybe you don't need to show motive(you can guess, in that case) but for most crimes it makes sense for the prosecution to present a pattern of behavior OR a motive for the crime. For most murder cases, they at least seek out a motive or pattern of violent behavior if they can't find a clear reason.

By the logic of some, Bryant being an athlete and famous is the motive for his rape. Essentially, a man accused of rape has just provided the sole basis for their belief that he is susceptible to violent fits of sexual assault.

A bizarre view, mostly held by NOW-nags, but apparently gaining traction.

most of what you wrote in your post (bodyguards in room, other hotel guests saying they heard noises, hotel room trashed, torn clothing, etc) i have never heard anywhere before now from ANY news source.

Huh? Its been reported and discussed here and other places. Its just that many want to discuss the rumors aboout the accuser and disregard rumors about what happened at the hotel.

She's almost a minor.

So he is guilty.

Kobe's probably been stoopin women for 10 years.

So he is guilty.

She's got injuries.

So he caused them.

The DA feels he has a strong case.

That settles it, send him up for 20 because of the DA's feelings.

I feel more sorry for her than Kobe.

I think I'm going to cry. You feel sorry for her, (even though you know nothing about her for sure) so he should go up the river.

This country is failing fast when "conservatives" talk this crap.

She's almost a minor.

In other words, she's an adult.

Well, you've found anything that tends to work against your prejudice or any statement that indicates skepticism or (forbid!) doubt as bizarre.

Most of us "kobots" have openly proclaimed MANY times that we are open to evidence proving his guilt. Just as many were with OJ or others. But it seems like the entire worlds of the Lynch Mob will be shattered if Kobe is exonerated or acquitted. Basically, they've set up a situation where a conviction affirms their prejudice, and an acquittal or even doubt of guilt is an outrage and miscarriage of lynching bl...er justice.

Some of us are just disgusted that a potential rape victim is being dragged through the mud. Imagine if your sister was raped and you kept hearing in the media that she was a slut, a nut, or a liar. I don't doubt for a second that some of this garbage is being encouraged by Kobe supporters and perhaps his legal team.

Haven't heard the police chief confirm any of those, though. UNlike this latest development.

What if this entire case was sealed and it was punishable by law to divulge information relevant to it, even if you weren't one of the parties to the proceedings? Then, even if Bryant is acquitted, many would never know why or how the evidence exonerated him. It'd be left for people to just make assumptions.

You say she's being dragged through the mud, I see some facts and some rumor and some hearsay. Well, that's going to happen. You think people can't come forward with BRyant? Will you call it being dragged through the mud?

Should her friends shut up? yeah. But you assume Bryant is at the heart of it. But see, you've ASSUMED his guilt because if you didn't, you wouldn't make reference to his lawyers or his money or fame. But you already assume guilt so you view everything through that lens.

But maybe you think information that may or may not exonerate the accused or confirm the accuser's claims should not be reported? Hey, he's famous and this is going to be a big case. I don't think the name-calling is appropriate, but talking about possibilities or FACTS is not mud-slinging.

Hey, hey, hey. Women NEVER lie about this EVER. It's impossible. Women aren't responsible for anything. They are driven to it by evil men. Did you miss this? /so

I have known women who were raped and women who cried wolf. The latter make things more difficult for the former

There was a HS senior and her college freshman boyfriend. He was going to school on an athletic scholarship. They were playing at an away game in the next state. It was a couple of hours drive for her. She followed him to the state, booked her own room in the same hotel as the team. Blah, blah, blah. Long story short. She told her sister that she'd gone, her sister told her parents. The filed rape charges against the young man. Made his life a living hell with strangers. Made her life a living hell with people who knew her and what she'd done.

There will not be a trial. This case begs for a settlement. The nutcase will get some dough and Kobe will play the entire season.

I think the same thing. Bryant running out to buy a $4 million bauble for his wife four days later is a signal to the accuser's lawyers that he'd spend at least that much to get her to drop the charges. He'd spend more to get her to recant, say "I was confused", and destroy her own credibility (so the D.A. couldn't have any winnable case) and then Kobe could continue his endorements as well as his playing in the NBA, probably even more popular as the maligned hero.

I have not once used the term "kobots"
If you want to argue against me, please use my own words as the premise - not someone else's and not your own distorted (prejudiced?) impression of what you assume my words were meant to be.

I'm using Kobots in quotes because I'm ridiculing the term.

I'm not saying that you've used that term. So for being unclear in that, I apologize.

I use quotes as a way of pointing out a word, not just to quote a poster or article. Sorry about that.
