Yes. I was shocked. I have never put terrorism and democracy in the same universe. Bloomberg actually said it was not terrorism, it was democracy. Now that'll make tourists head for NYC. Maybe Drudge will have an exact quote on it.

Shep Smith said that the dead guy actually went through security with the guy who shot him. They went to the meeting together allegedly. I just can't imagine being shot by an acquaintance-escorted guest. That should be on video-cam. Friendship - priceless.

An emergency worker said the two victims were lying side by side in the balcony, both with bullet wounds to the chest (most likely courtesy of the "security" guard).

They don't want private citizens having guns, but give them to incompetent security guards who fire into a crowded balcony trying to get the shooter from probably 25-50 yards away. Adequate marksmanship skills to hit a guy at that range are not cultivated by shooting a qualifier once per year

A silver plated gun isn't very common unless your name is Hussein. They meant to say "chrome". But they know nothing about most things, including guns. I'm surprised they didn't say it was a silver automatic revolver.

I think we can cut them some slack on that.... its a description - a color - nothing more.

The way I picture it, I see a balcony where when shots are fired, everyone either started moving away from the guy shooting, or got down. If the shooter was still shooting, then there was a clear target to shoot at.

Which is safer, trying to take him out, or letting the guy continue shooting (especially if you have no idea if he is after one target or many)?

If a guard had a shot, I think he had to take it.

Does anyone suspect, along with me, that this was a targeted shooting - an assassination?

I would even consider that it was personal!

Actually, D.C. is stricter... but I won't quibble on this. Both are bad.

A second person has also been killed;

Has that been confirmed?

I hate to say it, but I am sure glad the shooter was not a Republican.

Yes, but you know the alphabetsoupliberalmedia will report that gun is--Republican.

But why go through the hassle of getting into and out of the building when you could have popped him outside in the parking lot?

And not get tons of publicity out of it?

Nutjobs like the shooter don't exactly think logically.

Anyone out there remember THIS one?:

"The rest, as they say, is history: how Dan White took his .38 service revolver and extra bullets with him when he went to City Hall; how he climbed in a side window to avoid the metal detector; how he asked one more time for his job back; how he shot the Mayor twice in the chest and twice more in the head; how he reloaded his gun, slipped out of the mayor’s inner office by a side door, and roamed the hallways looking for Councilmember Harvey Milk; how he asked Harvey to see him for a moment; how he fired three shots into Harvey’s body and two more into the back of his head as he lay on the floor. How Diane Feinstein – then the president of the Board of Supervisors – announced in a voice that shook, “Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk have been shot and killed. The suspect is Supervisor Dan White.” How the police cheered when the news broke. How Dan White called his wife to meet him in St. Mary’s Cathedral and then turned himself in to an old friend..."

And why has it taken over an hour to give a description of the shooter who, according to the police, has gotten away.

I heard a report that when the troops in Iraq learned that 5,000 Alabama boys were called up to join them, they were quite pleased. Their reasoning: these boys had been shooting and hunting since they were old enough to hold a rifle (insert shoot eye of a gnat stats here). Many people who own guns legally are quite proficient with them.
