WE'VE ALL BEEN HOSED BY THE N.O.W. GANG: Why I Feel Sorry for Kobe
Posted on 07/18/2003 6:47:40 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl
It's the whole "NO MEANS NO" brainwashing Gen X Y and Z have been receiving since we were in kindergarten. "NO MEANS NO" no matter what position you are in, or how you got yourself there.
Here's what I think happened: this girl went up to Kobe's bedroom in the hotel, like she said. She started having intimate contact with Kobe, they ended up in bed, and while they were in the middle of the act, the girl starts freaking out that she's only 19, Kobe isn't wearing protection, and she doesn't want to get pregnant. So she starts telling him to stop. But at that point, any man in that situation doesn't have a lot of concentration going on in his brain, and Kobe naturally wanted to complete the act, so maybe he restrained her a little.
Afterward, the girl was so upset, she ran to the police or whatever, knowing what she has been taught her whole life: "NO MEANS NO" even if you went up to a guy's room at night, even if you made out with him, even if you got in bed with him and starting doing stuff. "NO MEANS NO!!!"
At what point do we as a society come back to our senses and stop telling our girls that they can do all kinds of seductive things and be in all kinds of private, intimate situations with guys and if the guy starts making moves on her and she decides she doesn't like it all of a sudden, it's all the guy's fault and he needs to go to prison for life?

Or somewhere inbetween. A new category of flip-flop crime, the felony/dismissal.
(Many states have so-called flip-flops, which are charged as either felonys or misdemeanors depending on the severity. You've invented a new kind.)

Utter nonsense!, Kobe went to the hospital after the incident, I contend the psysical damage to his body will cook his goose.
To: Cinnamon Girl
All along Koby said the truth would prove his innocence but what else was he going to say.He new they had sex and now he's trying to make it look like he's the victim. If he hadn't been charged does anyone honestly think he would have told his wife.I think l'll wait and see what the evidence shows. If the young girl is telling the truth l hope he gets what he deserves and if he proves to be innocent she should be charged.

If it is not true.
She is going to be under a lot of preasure. If it is not true and she even hints, even accidently, that it was not full-on-rape, things will fall apart fast.
That would be the only chance the DA would be taking. Other wise it a win(lose) WIN(win) situation.

"She is going to be under a lot of preasure."
Okay... That is why I tend to believe her...
To: TheSpottedOwl
So you think Paula Jones asked for it?
To: marajade
So what... does that mean he had the right to rape her? Absolutely not! If she was a real fan of his, I could see her wanting to get his autograph. That's normal, but she was off duty for the evening and had no real reason to go to his room. I'm sure she realizes that it wasn't the brightest thing to do, whatever was done that night.

It seems to me that all we know is that they had sex, one says it was concensual, the other says not.
To: Cinnamon Girl
First of all, some of her coworkers said she was a "celibrity" person. Fawning over every celebrity who came to the resort.
He called the service desk and she told him it was closed - BUT she went to his room anyway ..?? Really?
Then ... I also heard she waited 8 hours before reporting the "assault". How easy would it be to TEAR YOUR OWN BLOUSE IN 8 HOURS. I smell a gold digger!!

And a DA who says it wasn't and that he had enough evidence wherein he felt he could obtain a conviction...

Hey, it is not like I highlighted it or anything...

If it was gold she was after, she'd have it already and clammed up...

If he is indeed innocent of the rape charge then I do feel sorry for him. No man, even one who commits adultery (not a felony in any state I can think of) should not be charged with a crime that can potentially put him in prison for the rest of his life.
If he did rape her, then he deserves what he has coming.

She is not under pressure yet.
If she has doubts in the back of her mind that this was not full-on-rape and a cross examination brings the doubts to the surface, out of her mouth, on the stand.
Case dismissed.
If it was rape, put him away.

So you think Paula Jones asked for it? No, and I don't believe Juanita did either. Don't compare apples and oranges. Young people these days are growing up with too many mixed messages about sex these days. No means no, my rear end.

What oranges and apples? Clinton asked Paula Jones up to a hotel room supposedly work related... Where's the difference?
To: OnTheDress
"She is not under pressure yet."
Sure she is... I'm sure the DA has questioned her big time and told her what to expect...
To: marajade
"A social call at that time of night to a man's room, even Kobe Bryant, is asking for trouble." So what... does that mean he had the right to rape her?I could decide to take a drive to an inner city; get out of the car and start screaming racial epithets at the top of my lungs. Unarmed. The predictable happens; I wake up in the hospital in severe pain.
Was I asking for trouble---yes. Would it mean others had a right to assault me? No.
