Johnny Depp, Pirate of St. Tropez

USA Weekend.com ran a July 6, 2003, story on the “always offbeat” star of the new Disney movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” Basically, the story on Depp is a condemnation of America, its people and its place in the world. Johnny “loves” America, but prefers France. He moved there five years ago and has never looked back. You see France is far more civilized than America for Johnny as he is “shocked by the gun violence in American schools and feels it is far safer raising a family in France.”

I thought it was a strange movie as well! IMHO...it fits Johnny Depp to a T! Did you see him on the David Letterman show? STRANGE is a word that really goes with this guy. He looked like a homeless person who hadn't had a shower in months....his hair looked dirty and I don't think he even attempted to brush it before appearing on the show.

Unfortunately Finding Nemo put Disney back on the map.

I thought Finding Nemo was done by Pixar. Are they affiliated with Disney?

Well he is living in France with a French actress...

If France is such a great place and America so bad, Johnny; put some action behind your words. Become a citizen of France and surrender your American citizenship.

Did I mention that he made fun of people who chose to change the name of "french fries" to "freedom fries"?

Depp may be a jerk politically, but his performance is brilliant in "Pirates" - the only must-see movie so far this year.

I agree. Both times I saw it, once with the kids and once with my husband, the audience clapped at the end of the movie. The only other time this has happened in a movie I went to this year was for the Twin Towers. Though I can't decide whether his performance was brilliant or just plain crazy.

Yes. The monkeys can be like sidekicks for the ninjas, possibly even assassins. And the have to move their mouths, but have voiceovers for speaking parts. : )

A good many of his roles are strange. "Sleepy Hollow", The one about Jack the Ripper, "Edward Sissor Hands", "Crybaby"...

The "Jack the Ripper" movie was pretty good! I just wish some of these movie stars would learn some class when dressing. I think of Carey Grant and most of them don't even come close!

So there is something wrong with making a 'g'-rated movie, and doing what he thinks is right for his family??

That sort of violence is "quaint" in an Old Europe kind of way.

What is "right for his family" is to not marry his kids' mother until the kids are old enough to "appreciate" it.

Right now his oldest is 4.

I am just grateful for the billions of flies and maggots that left America riding on Depp when he departed for France.

"Check out "Ed Wood" -- one of his best performances and the movie itself is a hoot too!"

I saw his "Ed Wood" also, but first, I watched an actual documentary about the REAL Ed Wood.
That made Depp's version all the more interesting and really showed him (Depp) to be perfect for the part.

Although Depp's children may not be subject the the Sharia, his granchildren will certainly submit and bow to Mecca or escape Eurabia for the USSA.
