July 10, 2003 -- Kobe Bryant's alleged sex-assault victim is an aspiring chanteuse who drove a thousand miles for a shot at stardom on Fox's blockbuster "American Idol," a friend told The Post yesterday.

Despite being cut from the hit reality show, the alleged victim's a talented pianist and songwriter who hopes to become a music teacher when she graduates college, friends said.

Perhaps he or one of them propositioned her for such. And it upset her. Maybe he put a friendly hand on her and she suddenly discovered she is frightened of tall Black men.

Then why did the sheriff escort him to the hospital for DNA samples and turn over the rape kit for evidence?????

Another victim of women's liberation.

It used to be that if a woman entered unescorted into the residence of a strange man, then that woman did so on her own recognizance.

In other words, don't come crying to us later.

In some African tribes I have read of, a woman marries a man by simply entering his hut with the man and spending time alone.

This is beneficial behavior to the tribe, as it spares the tribes resources in he-said/she-said arguments, such as our court system will now be burdened thanks to this incident.

It's unlikely that our court system has the power to truly determine guilt in many such cases.

Might as well flip a coin, it's cheaper.

I'd like to know if any of his crew were around. And if alcohol was involved.

I'm 95% sure Kobe only travels with bodyguards....but I doubt they have the same responsibilities as the guy whose job it was to watch over Mike Tyson.

That guy's job required him to always be in the room while Iron Mike was doing it with a young lovely to guard against phoney assualt/rape charges....the only time the guy did not make a trip with Tyson was when he went to Indiana to judge a beauty contest.

Kobe seems like one of the straightest arrows in the NBA and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

I don't have a daughter.

Not a bad thing in your case.

"This is beneficial behavior to the tribe" should be "This is a beneficial custom for the tribe"

What has he accomplished to deserve that, shoot the basket well?

Oh, don't you know? Some professional athletes are "heros". Which is a cheap waste of the word.

I'd wait before sliming Bryant's accusor.

Good point. There simply isn't enough information at this point to draw any valid conclusions.

Or she thought it was cool to talk to a celebrity and things she did or said got misinterpreted which led to something he did or said being misinterpreted and then one of them panicked and it unraveled. Never underestimate the ability of people to get the facts wrong, even if they were there. Ever seen Rashômon?

FINALLY, someone on this thread who doesn't try to shoehorn things into the most absolutely simplistic scenarios possible. Thank you.

I'm amazed at how many people here expect things to fit into some variation of their tidy little "either she's an crazy golddigger/whore or he brutally attacked a sweet innocent girl" categories (and then try to guess which ridiculously simplistic scenario seems more reasonable, when they're both ridiculously cartoonish).

At the very least, most people are overlooking the distinct possibility (among many) that she was starstruck enough to do him a favor with after-hours room service, and between that and her hero-worshipping compliments, he got the wrong idea and presume she was one of the "willing groupies" that several posters have pointed out surround celebrities. He acted on his presumption, she wasn't as clear as she should have been about setting him straight (through confusion or surprise), and by the time she ran from his room feeling violated the damage was done. (I'm not declaring that it must have happened this way, just that it could have, and lots of people are utterly failing to consider this possibility, among dozens of others beyond "she's a witch" or "he's a thug", when they try to think about it.)

In this scenario, both parties are guilty of poor judgement, and neither is guilty of intentionally victimizing the other.

But hey, some people just aren't happy unless one party is evil and the other is pure -- they just aren't built to grasp a more complex world than that.

Paula Jones got what she asked for. Juanita Brodderick, also. Would you say the same about your daughter?

Is it the fault of women when society refuses to back them up were they to consider being alone with a strange man as dangerous?

Used to be that society would stand behind a woman who refused to be alone with a stranger.

For a man to invite a woman up to his room in those days, would have been the same as saying to the woman hey honey, let's you and me ****.

But nowadays, if it's OK for a man to enter the hotel room of a non-relative, and a stranger at that, then women are supposed to have the same freedom.

This is another result of women's liberation.

The flag in this story, to me, involves the call for room service. If room service wasn't available, why did a hotel employee decide to go to the room anyway? None of us knows the truth. Not yet.

Maybe he ordered out for S&M a well and honestly mistook her for the hooker he called up. ;-)

I think it's funny that so many people here think they know what probably happened.

I think it's not so funny that so many people here reveal an eager willingness to confidently presume the very worst about women.

Well, rather than take the blame myself for misreading the article, I'll blame the author for not making the point more clear. Heh-heh.

Obviously, we're all speaking from our sphincters at this point because we don't know enough details. If I was a betting man, though, I'm betting on Bryant. He doesn't seem to fit the profile of the type of numbskulls who would do something this dumb. Calling a girl up to your room -- when everyone knows its your room -- and then sexually assaulting her, is almost beyond stupid.

The sad truth is that we'll probably never know exactly what happened. The only people who know that are the two who were in the room at the time.

Sorry, wasn't thinking when I typed that. What I meant to say, was that presumably murder is worse than rape. Why the anonymity afforded to the accuser?

Ah yes, the "good old days" when you could have molested a woman if you could just entice her into trusting you for a moment, and nothing she could do about it, eh?

Sorry, but in reality it "used to be" that if a woman turned out not to be safe in the unescorted presence of a man after all, the brothers/father/relatives of the woman would go "visit" the man and "inform" him of the error of his ways. Your "glory days" of women being free for the taking without repercussions to you if they "asked for it" by being alone with you never existed.

In some African tribes I have read of, a woman marries a man by simply entering his hut with the man and spending time alone. This is beneficial behavior to the tribe, as it spares the tribes resources in he-said/she-said arguments,

It's only "beneficial" to the tribe if you consider it better to let women be treated as property just to avoid having to "bother" with protecting them from being used sexually against their will.

Excuse me if I don't share your approval of such arrangements.

I suggest you pick a new screen name, you clearly pine more for an age of barbarism than for the age of reason.

And if alcohol was involved.

Kobe is known a someone who does not drink any alcohol. Seems like the only legs to this story are the victims claims.... inquiring minds are waiting for evidence.
