MIAMI, July 7 (UPI) -- An 8-year-old Miami-area boy faces felony charges after causing massive injuries to a 4-month-old kitten because, he told officials, he was bored.

The Miami Herald said the kitten suffered a fractured skull, fractured palate and head trauma when the unidentified boy swung it by its tail and slammed it to the ground near his Lauderdale Lakes home.

My point is that cats aren't humans.

WHAT??!!! Are you sure? Has the media been alerted?

Sad to say, I don't know if that type of personality is amenable to intervention.

Just ask a farmer what he does with cute little kittens, to control the cat population on his farm! Of course, it is not cruelty - I suppose - but it is the same act. How come they are not charged with felony animal abuse. LOL!

Thanks, JustPiper, for calling this to my attention. This kind of cruelty just sickens me. This must sound harsh to other people, but if this 8yo tortures an animal out of boredom, then he's morally bankrupt already. You dont' start learning values and compassion suddenly at 8yo. I'm afraid this is only the beginning of a life of cruelty to others.

He was destined to be thy servant and thy drudge

I think this goes "not thy drudge" (google is cool). Originally about beasts of burden. Thank you and I have asked to yank my former silly remark (no harm meant, I don't deliberately hurt my cat, I just mean she's a spontaneous complainer like a lot of cats)

The idea is to kill in a moment. Not to smash for entertainment, uncaring if the animal lives and suffers over the next minutes, hours...

You dont' start learning values and compassion suddenly at 8yo.

One might not "suddenly," but "gradually" might be possible if plucked at that age out of a hellhole that schooled one in cruelty....

So, if the 8-year old had drowned the kitten, or pitched it up against a barn door, it would have been ok - (unless he had painted a target on the barn door)?

I agree about needing help. When this happened with my oldest child, I sought immediate help. But you do realize there are what I refer to as many genetic u-turns and to treat psychosis is easier than trying to treat an anti-social person. For that only genetic therapy and trasferrence will help.

I had a brother like this who led a troubled life and was murdered at 42. I will always wonder if it was suicide by someone else's hand though.

I went to Catholic school. I defintely knew right from wrong and the consequences. I did not take that lightly.
When I strayed at 12 many tried to blame my mother. I told them I knew exactly what I was doing and she had no control over my lack of choices. She tried, God knows she did. But I believe at a young age we are independent enough to know the evil vs good thing.

I cannot equate animal life with human life, I am sorry.
But the connotations that can be inferred with were this child is headed cannot be disputed.

I do believe that all avenues should be studied, and that this child needs complete assistance. I do not know if he can be "cured". I am assuming that his suffering is so severe, that he will not lead a "normal" life for a long time to come, if ever. My main concern is that he gets the best opportunity to ease his suffering.

I do understand the distinction between psychosis and the anti-social personality. I just do not know which side of the fence this child sits on, today.

I have a family member who suffers from a myriad of mental disorders, and I know that he has suffered for over twenty-five years. My prayers are with this poor child. And no, I do not excuse what he did.

A sociopath cannot be treated. O nly genetic altering can do that. Hormone replacement etc.

Again, if he is a danger to society, he should be removed from society. If he is removed from society, can we then rejoice that the problem is fixed? No, we are safer... but that doesn't mean he has been healed. The fact remains that he is an eight year old child, and needs a great deal of help.
