Ku Klux Klan platform calling for the murders of the Negro and the Republicans

Now we know why Pat Buchannan is no longer a Republican.

I learned this in Pennsylvania schools. But then it is a rural Republican area. All one needs to do to learn history is go back and read the original letters, books, newspapers etc...

There is too much reliance on short essays in some manufactured modern day history book. The absolute worst thing to do is read some history professor's book. It will always be ruined by their own opinion.

Directly on your point, and to the point of liberal distortion of history as well, Ann Coulter makes the same point in Treason about "McCarthyism."

"McCarthyism" belongs in quotes because the term refers to a man--Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy back in the Truman/Eisenhower era--who stood for perfectly respectable things in a perfectly (well, almost perfectly respectable) way. Yet just as Democrats smear the Republican Party as anti-black, they smear McCarthy every time they use the term "McCarthyism" to smear any Republican who points out that Democrats tend to be cozy with Communists.

It took a massive PR campaign to turn a perfectly reasonable person into a bogeyman, but the Democrats managed it (I make no distinction between official Democrats who are politicians, and unofficial Democrats who claim to be independent and objective reporters; there's not a dime's worth of difference in how they think). But Coulter points out that any book, including school history books, which refer to "McCarthyism" only tell you what was said about McCarthy by his enemies--and really nothing about what the man himself actually said and did.

I'll bet Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Louis Farakkan just found room in their hearts for a little more forgiveness...

The Ku Klux Klan did not start out as racist. I know that; but I am not sure what they were or how they evolved into a racial group.

In the U.S., it was anti-Catholic.

"With the defeat of the South and rape and oppression that Radical Republicans imposed, the KKK was formed as a counter to the imposed oppression. The whites were disenfranchised, blacks were promised goodies to vote in carpetbaggers and scum into offices. These were under control of the Radicals, and their purpose was to plunder and pillage the South. Forrest created the Klan to render some justice against the corrupt blacks and Radical Republicans and their cronies. "

Now that is what I had learned in the past about the origins of the klan and that somewhere after they bagan, the group took a wrong turn and ended up a racist group even though it had not begun that way.

I love Closer and Enter Sandman. I have always wondered though.. is "Closer" pronounced like the word "standing to close to me, move over" or like "the store is about to close, please bring all items to the fron to check out"?

In the song, it's pronounced with a soft "S" as in, "I want to feel you from the inside."

HHHmmm? The area in southern Indiana I live in, was once a "home" for the Klan, now it makes sense why is it predominatly democratic, but very conservative. Next county over was part of the "underground railroad" and is predominatly republicans. All has to do with those Radical Republicans.

Oh yeah.. It's been sooooo long since I've heard that song that I had forgotten much of it. I just remember loving that song as a teen.

The Ku Klux Klan began as the terrorist wing of the Democratic Party.
